Harefield Hospital

Old Park Wood is a 16.7-hectare (41-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Harefield in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The south-east part is an 8-hectare (20-acre) nature reserve owned and managed by the Hertfordshire and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. The site is ancient woodland which dates back to the Domesday Book. It was part of Harefield Park, which had an eighteenth-century house which later became the site of Harefield Hospital.The hilly site is almost wholly wooded, and one of the floristically richest ancient woods in the London area. Its highlight is the abundance of flowers in spring, with a carpet of bluebells together with yellow archangel, lesser celandine, wood anemone and the rare coral root bittercress (cardamina bulbifera).The site is dissected by small valleys and has a variety of types of soil and plants. The trees are mainly oak, birch, hornbeam and ash. Golden saxifrage and marsh marigolds grow along small streams and there is a pond which is important for dragonflies and invertebrates. There is a good variety of birds, including nuthatch and all three British species of woodpecker.The site lies behind Harefield Hospital. There is no access from the hospital, but a footpath along its border fence from Hill End Road leads to the Herts & Middlesex nature reserve. This may be closed as a developer disputes the right of way. Another footpath between Summerhouse Lane and Hill End Road goes through the SSSI, skirting the northern boundary of the nature reserve. The London Loop goes along this footpath.

Uxbridge power station supplied electricity to the District of Uxbridge and the surrounding area from 1902 to 1962. The power station was built by the Uxbridge and District Electric Supply Company Limited which operated it until the nationalisation of the British electricity supply industry in 1948.

Harefield is a village in the London Borough of Hillingdon, England, 17 miles (27 km) northwest of Charing Cross near Greater London's boundary with Buckinghamshire to the west and Hertfordshire to the north. The population at the 2011 Census was 7,399. Harefield is the westernmost settlement in Greater London, and lies outside the capital's contiguous built-up area. Harefield is near Denham, Ickenham, Northwood, Rickmansworth, Ruislip and Uxbridge. Pioneering heart surgery techniques were developed at Harefield Hospital.

Harefield United Football Club are an English football club based in Harefield in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The club is the oldest in Middlesex. The club is affiliated to the Middlesex County Football Association. They are currently members of the Combined Counties Premier North Division as of the 2022-2023 season, having left the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division at the end of the 2021-2022 season.

Harefield Pit is a 1.8-hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Harefield in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It occupies much of a partially filled-in chalk quarry. It has two entries in the Geological Conservation Review database.It is an important Tertiary site in the London Basin, which displays a sequence through the Upper Chalk, Reading Beds and London Clay. It is the only known source of charophytes in the Reading Beds, and these have potential for correlation with other localities in Europe.Natural England has cast the site as "unfavourable declining" as the Reading Beds are not visible due to covering by vegetation. It is set behind Lovett Road, without public access.

Harefield Academy is a secondary school and sixth form in Uxbridge, London. Located on the site of the former community school, John Penrose School, which closed on 31 August 2005, it reopened as an academy in 2005 and specialises in sports. Among other connections, Watford Football Club provides coaching there (the school serves as its youth system), and it also hosts an elite gymnastics division. In January 2014, the academy was one of three schools that featured in BBC Three's six-part series Tough Young Teachers. The series was filmed throughout the 2012–2013 academic year.

Mid Colne Valley is a 132 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Harefield in the London Borough of Hillingdon and Denham in South Buckinghamshire. Its main importance lies in its extensive diversity of birdlife in lakes in former gravel pits. The site is divided into three areas. The great majority is in an area of four lakes bounded on the west by the River Colne and on the east by the Grand Union Canal. The river forms the boundary between Greater London to the east and Buckinghamshire to the west, and west of the river in Denham is a small area called Ranston Covert. The SSSI also includes a field called Coppermill Down east of the canal.

The Colne Valley Viaduct is a bridge, under construction as of 2023, which will carry the High Speed 2 railway over the Colne Valley Regional Park and the Grand Union Canal, in Hillingdon, west London. When completed, its length of 3.4 kilometres (2.1 mi) and a weight of 116,000 tonnes will make it the largest railway bridge in the UK. It is one of the largest single civil engineering works of HS2 Phase 1.A contract for the section of the railway pertaining to the viaduct was awarded during 2017 and the design concept was released to the public on 19 January 2018. Preparatory work commenced shortly thereafter, including a compulsory land purchase and the establishment of temporary facilities, including a factory, onsite. Construction of the viaduct commenced during March 2021 with completion of the main deck due to occur during 2024 with full completion expected for May 2025. Protestors have occasionally occupied the site, and allegations over the viaduct's aesthetic and environmental impact upon the area have been made.

Stocker's Lake is an old flooded gravel pit of approx 90 acres (37.5ha) at Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England, within the Colne Valley Regional Park which is designated as a Local Nature Reserve.The lake is owned by Affinity Water and managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust assisted by the Friends of Stocker's Lake.

Dews Farm Sand Pits is a 1.2-hectare (3.0-acre) nature reserve near Harefield in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It is managed by the London Wildlife Trust, and is a Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation, Grade I.The site is an old quarry which has been reclaimed by nature. It has areas of woodland, dominated by pedunculate oak and ash. In drier grassland areas, there is common knapweed, agrimony and ox-eye daisy.There is access from Harvil Road near Newyears Green Lane.

Rickmansworth Aquadrome is a 41 hectares (101 acres) public park and Local Nature Reserve in Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire. It is owned and managed by Three Rivers District Council.There are two lakes, which were created by the extraction of gravel for the original Wembley Stadium; Batchworth Lake is used for water skiing and Bury Lake is used by Bury Lake Young Mariners for sailing and canoeing. The site has a diverse range of wildlife habitats. It has small copper and gatekeeper butterflies. The Aquadrome has open grassland; areas of woodland with trees such as oaks and willows; many birds including herons and moorhens; large car park; café and children's play area. Its boundaries are the River Colne to the north, the Grand Union Canal to the east and south and Stocker's Lake nature reserve to the west. In July 2009, it received a Green Flag Award for parks and open spaces which meet high standards. Vehicular access is from Harefield Road via Frogmoor Lane'.

Savay Farm is a Grade I listed twelfth century farmhouse in Denham, Buckinghamshire, England.The house has a timber frame and red brick nogging.It was granted Grade I status in September 1955, protecting it from unauthorised alteration or demolition.Past owners of the house have included the Durdent Family (1130-1512) after whom the house was once named and Lt-Gen. Gerald Goodlake VC, a veteran of the Crimean War and recipient of the Victoria Cross. Goodlake's medals are currently held in the Regimental Headquarters of the Grenadier Guards in the Wellington Barracks, Westminster. Savay Farm was later lived in by Sir Oswald Mosley, a British politician and the founder of the British Union of Fascists. He lived at Savehay Farm (name used by the Mosleys)with his wife, Lady Cynthia Mosley (nee Curzon)]. On the 23rd May 1940, officers of Special Branch raided Savay Farm in conjunction with Mosley's internment and found a collection of firearms and ammunition.As of December 2016, the house is in private ownership. It is within 300 metres (330 yd) of the proposed path of the High Speed 2 railway, which would pass the house on the 30 metres (33 yd) high Colne Valley Viaduct.
