Norwood Park station

The Norwood Park Historical District (also known as Old Norwood) is a historic district in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It is bordered by Bryn Mawr, Avondale, and Harlem Avenues, and is home to the Noble-Seymour-Crippen House, which was built in 1833 and is widely considered to be the oldest house in Chicago. (However, it was not located in Chicago at the time it was built; Norwood Park was annexed to Chicago in 1893.) The historic district is also home to Norwood Park Public School, William Howard Taft High School, Norwood Park (the park), Myrtle Park, and Norwood Circle Park. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The district was first settled in 1833, when Mark Noble Sr. built his house northwest of Chicago, Illinois. However, the area remained sparsely populated when the Chicago and North Western Railway built a station there in 1864. The Norwood Park Land and Building Association (NPLBA) formed in 1868 to purchase 860 acres (350 ha) of farmland with the intention of developing a suburb. The organization was led by Thomas H. Seymour, a broker at the Chicago Board of Trade, and educator John Eberhart. The town was named after the novel Norwood, or Village Life in New England by Henry Ward Beecher; "Park" was added because another Illinois post office already held the Norwood name.

The Noble–Seymour–Crippen House is a mansion located at 5624 North Newark Avenue in Chicago's Norwood Park community area. Its southern wing, built in 1833, is widely considered the oldest existing building in Chicago.

Taft High School is a public four-year high school located in the Norwood Park neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Taft serves communities on the far northwest side, specifically Norwood Park, Edison Park, Jefferson Park, Forest Glen and O'Hare. Taft is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district. Taft's NJROTC unit won a Distinguished Unit award every year from 2001 to 2014. In the late 1990s—to stanch the loss of students—Chicago Public Schools made significant changes to the school to attract more neighborhood students. These included an NJROTC unit, a selective-enrollment academic center for 7th and 8th grade students, and an International Baccalaureate Diploma program. Taft's IB program became authorized in 2001, and since 2014 has been a "wall-to-wall" IB World School.

The Passionist Fathers Monastery is a historic monastery at 5700 N. Harlem Avenue in the Norwood Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The monastery was built in 1910 for the Passionists, an order of Roman Catholic monks which believed in austere living and hosting spiritual retreats. Architect Joseph Molitor, who also designed several churches for the Archdiocese of Chicago in the early twentieth century, designed the monastery. The building incorporates elements of Classical Revival, Baroque Revival, and Romanesque Revival architecture. The building's most prominent Classical Revival element its main entrance, which includes a balustrade and detailed pediment. Its Baroque influence is apparent in the Dutch gable above the main entrance, while its rounded arched windows and corbeling come from the Romanesque style.The monastery was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 6, 2013.

Norwood Park is one of the 77 Chicago community areas. It encompasses the smaller neighborhoods of Big Oaks, Norwood Park East, Norwood Park West, Old Norwood Park, Oriole Park, and Union Ridge. The community area contains the oldest extant building in Chicago, the Noble–Seymour–Crippen House, built in 1833 and greatly expanded in 1868. Organized in 1873 as a township from the adjacent townships of Jefferson, Leyden, Niles, and Maine, and named after Henry Ward Beecher's 1868 novel Norwood, or Village Life in New England (With the "Park" added to account for another post office in Illinois with the Norwood name), Norwood Park was incorporated as a village in 1874 and annexed to Chicago on November 7, 1893.Every Memorial Day since 1922 there has been a parade that runs through Norwood Park. William Howard Taft High School, best known as the inspiration for the musical Grease, was completed in 1939 with major additions made in 1959 and 1974.

Harlem is a Chicago "L" station serving the Blue Line's O'Hare branch in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood. It is not to be confused with the other Harlem Blue Line station. Trains run from Harlem every 2–7 minutes during rush hour, and take 30–45 minutes to travel to the Loop. O'Hare-bound trains take 10 minutes to reach the airport from Harlem. The station is located in the median of the Kennedy Expressway. Harlem station opened on February 27, 1983 as part of the 7.9-mile extension of the West-Northwest Route from Jefferson Park to O'Hare . Similar to the 1970-built stations on the previous Kennedy Extension (Addison to Jefferson Park), Harlem station sits in the median of the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90). Where the previous Kennedy stations were all designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) to be aesthetically similar in appearance, stations on the O'Hare Extension beyond Jefferson Park were designed by four different firms in a variety of architectural styles. The Harlem station, the only one designed by SOM, shares a similar boxy, open design of the previous 1970 Kennedy Extension (and the 1969-built Dan Ryan stations), except the newer Harlem station has an enclosed platform canopy where the support frame was designed on the highway median walls, thus providing an unobstructed platform, free of column supports. An almost identical canopy frame was also employed at the Cumberland station, however, it was designed another architectural super-giant, Perkins + Will.

Superdawg is a drive-in hot dog stand with carhop service. It is located in the Norwood Park, Chicago neighborhood of Chicago, at the intersection of Milwaukee, Devon, and Nagle Avenues. Superdawg has the distinction of being one of the few original drive-in restaurants left in the United States. Its methods have been the same since it opened in 1948. A second, similar location on Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling, Illinois opened in 2010.Superdawg was featured on the Food Network's television programs Unwrapped and Emeril Live, and on the PBS television programs Check, Please! and A Hot Dog Program. It has been visited by many critics and food aficionados. It is listed in the books 1,000 Places to See Before You Die and Hot Dog Chicago: A Native's Dining Guide.

The Romanian Orthodox Metropolia of the Americas (Romanian: Mitropolia Ortodoxă Română a celor două Americi) is an autonomous Eastern Orthodox metropolis of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The Metropolia covers the territory of the United States and Canada.The church is headed by Nicolae, Archbishop of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of the United States of America and The Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of the Americas, with the metropolitan center located in Chicago, Illinois.

The Katyń Memorial (Polish: Pomnik Katyński) is a monument in Niles, Illinois, United States, located at the St. Adalbert Cemetery. It commemorates victims of Katyn massacre, a series of mass executions of nearly 22,000 Polish military and police officers, border guards, and intelligentsia prisoners of war carried out in 1940 by the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs of the Soviet Union. The sculpture was designed by Wojciech Seweryn, and unveiled on May 17, 2009. The monument features a statue of keeling Mary of Nazareth, holding in her arms a dead Polish soldier, with a large granite Christian cross behind her, and a sculpture made from white stone, forming outline of a military eagle, symbol of Polish Arm Forces, with a missing head.

St Adalbert Cemetery is a Roman Catholic cemetery located in Niles, Illinois. It is bordered by Milwaukee Avenue on the east, Albion and Hayes Streets on the south, and Harlem Avenue on the west. Various non-cemetery properties separate it from Touhy Avenue on the north. It is intersected at its center from north to south by Newark Avenue. Its main entrance is on Milwaukee Avenue, approximately midway between Devon and Touhy.

Resurrection College Prep High School is a private, Catholic, all-girls high school in Chicago, Illinois. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.

Wildwood is a neighborhood located in the Forest Glen Community Area on the Far Northwest side of Chicago, Illinois. The community is triangular in shape and is bordered by Lehigh Avenue, Caldwell Avenue (Route 14), Touhy Avenue, and Devon Avenue. The Edgebrook Metra Station faces Wildwood at the intersection of Devon, Lehigh, and Caldwell. The most notable features of Wildwood are rustic, including curb-less streets and massive trees towering above the homes. A satellite view of Wildwood compared to other nearby Chicago communities shows its number of trees. Wildwood provides the entrance to Bunker Hill Forest Preserve and the North Branch Bicycle Trail (ending at the Botanical Gardens in Glencoe, Illinois). The community of Wildwood contains few businesses or rental options, as it is primarily a community of single-family homes. The neighborhood is home to Wildwood Park and Wildwood Elementary School. Wildwood Elementary is now known as Wildwood World Magnet School after undergoing extensive renovations in the last decade.
