Moorside, Greater Manchester

Counthill School formerly a high-achieving Grammar School, was a mixed gender secondary school for 11- to 16-year-olds in the Moorside area of Oldham in Greater Manchester, England. The school had approximately 900 pupils on roll and its motto was Animo Atque Fide. Although sometimes mistakenly thought to be the highest secondary school above sea level in the country, the site sits between 280 and 285 metres, which is lower than others such as Buxton Community School at 320 metres.

Sholver is an area of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England. An elevated, residential area, it lies near the middle of the Oldham part of the valley of the River Beal, 2.1 miles (3.4 km) northeast of Oldham's commercial centre, nearly at the northeasternmost extremity of the town, by open countryside close to the source of the River Medlock and by the border with Saddleworth.Historically a part of Lancashire, Sholver and its surroundings have provided archaeological evidence of Neolithic activity in the area. The name Sholver is of Old Norse derivation, and the locality, anciently, was a hamlet, independent of Oldham. Top Sholver is the site of a large council estate built in the 1960s. Bottom Sholver consists of higher-value suburban semi-detached housing, built in the 1990s, although it still contains a very small number of council houses. Locations within the area like Beasom Hill Country Park, Sholver Millennium Green, Strinesdale, Sholver Rangers and Fullwood Community Garden are particularly nice areas to visit.

Strinesdale is a reservoir situated on the A62 between Oldham and Delph in Greater Manchester, England. The town of Rochdale is to the north and the town of Oldham to the south. It is fed by the River Medlock. Strinesdale is an area of water and woodland covering approximately 40 acres (162,000 m2). In 1991, the reservoirs were drained and replaced by two smaller lakes with the old reservoir sites being planted with trees and grassland. Herons and kestrels can be seen on the lakeside and as the woodland develops it will provide shelter for animals and birds and many varieties of wild flowers. The site is now used for walking, orienteering and fishing.The original upper reservoir was built in around 1826 and the erected plaque can be seen at Upper Strinesdale; a second reservoir followed in 1838.Strinesdale derives its name from the Old English "strine" meaning boundary in connotation to the old Lancashire–Yorkshire boundary that ran through the middle of the site; since 1974 the whole area lies in Greater Manchester. Strinesdale was home to a children's boarding hospital in the 1950s–1960s.

Waterhead Academy is a coeducational secondary school with academy status located in Oldham, Greater Manchester, England. The academy was taken out of special measures in June 2016 and was one of the most improved academies in the country in 2016. The Academy is rated as good by Ofsted (leadership) and is sponsored by South Pennines Academies Trust. The academy first opened in September 2010, following the formal closure of Counthill School in Moorside and Breeze Hill School in Oldham. The academy was initially located at the two campuses of the former schools, however it relocated to a new main campus in November 2012. The main campus is located on the site of the former Orb Mill. The academy also operates a sports campus which is located at the site of the former Counthill School.

Orme Mill, Waterhead is a cotton spinning mill in Waterhead, Oldham, Greater Manchester, England. It was built in 1908. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and production finished in 1960. The mill was passed on to Ferranti in 1964, and is now in multiple usage.

Kingsland School is a pupil referral unit located on Broadbent Road, Watersheddings, Oldham.Kingsland School supports pupils, aged between 10 and 16, who are unable to access mainstream school, including those with behaviour problems, or have been permanently excluded, or those who cannot attend for medical reasons. In July 2009 the school was deemed to be "outstanding" by board inspectors.

Majestic Mill, Waterhead is a cotton spinning mill in Waterhead, Oldham, Greater Manchester. It was built in 1903. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964, converted to ring spinning in 1971. Production finished in 1982. Still standing in other use.

Crossbank is an area of Lees, a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, Greater Manchester, England. Historically a part of Lancashire, the name Crossbank is thought to derive from the days of the Knights Templar when a cross was etched into an earthen bank to denote lands granted to them. Prior to 1894, Crossbank had formed a hamlet linked with the parish of Ashton-under-Lyne, and lying within the Oldham parliamentary borough. Following the Local Government Act 1894, Crossbank constituted one of seven civil parishes within the Limehurst Rural District and administrative county of Lancashire. Unlike the other six parishes, Crossbank was an exclave of Limehurst lying to the north, bordering Lees and Waterhead in Oldham. In 1914, owing to urbanisation, the civil parish was abolished and its area incorporated into the Lees Urban District.

Greenacres , archaically Greenacres Moor, is an area of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies on the west side of the River Medlock opposite the village of Lees. An upland area, rising gently in altitude from west to east, Greenacres is a residential area located next to parts of Clarksfield, Waterhead, Mumps and Derker, all in the east of Oldham.

Springhead Urban District was an urban district in the West Riding of Yorkshire in England. Established in 1895, it functioned until 1937 when it was absorbed into Saddleworth Urban District.

Waterhead (or archaically, Waterhead Mill), is an area of Oldham, and an electoral ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England. Historically in Lancashire, an upland area in the Pennines, the ward of Waterhead has population of 12,876, decreasing to 12,029 at the 2011 Census.Waterhead once formed an ecclesiastical parish in Prestwich-cum-Oldham, in the Salfordshire hundred of Lancashire. Waterhead also formed a significant part of the Oldham Above Town registration district. Waterhead was the site of considerable industry and commerce, including coal mining and cotton spinning. Following a building boom associated with the Industrial Revolution, Waterhead became a densely populated industrial district dominated by cotton mills. In 2005, Waterhead was described as still "dominated by early 20th century mills". Cairo Mill was used by the Ferranti company for many years. Waterhead is next to parts of Greenacres, Salem, Moorside and Lees, and Austerlands and Scouthead from the west side of Saddleworth. The main A62 road from Oldham to Huddersfield passes through the locality. Waterhead is the terminus for First Greater Manchester's 81, 81A and 82 services to Manchester via Oldham. The area is served by First's 350 service between Oldham and Ashton, First's 410 and 411 east Oldham circular services and Checkmate's 418 service between Austerlands and Chadderton.

Cop Road is a proposed tram stop on the Oldham and Rochdale Line of Greater Manchester's Metrolink light rail system. It is to be located between Derker and Shaw and Crompton.
