Waialua (Hawaiian pronunciation: [vɐjəˈluwə]) is a census-designated place and North Shore community in the Waialua District on the island of Oʻahu, City & County of Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 4,062. Waialua was one of the six original districts of ancient Hawaii on the island, known as moku. Waialua is a former (sugar) mill town and residential area, quite different in its quiet ambiance from nearby Haleʻiwa, which is more commercial and tourist oriented. The Waialua Sugar Mill is the center of this town and the historical base of its plantation history. The U.S. postal code for Waialua is 96791.

The Kaukonahua Stream or Kaukonahua River is a 9.9-mile-long (15.9 km) river on the island of Oʻahu which is one of the Hawaiian Islands. Including its longer South Fork, the stream's total length is 28.0 miles (45.1 km). It flows down in a generally northwest direction, from 21°30′7″N 157°54′13″W into the Pacific Ocean. The North and South forks meet at coordinates 21°29′44″N 158°5′50″W. It is the longest river of the whole island group. It empties into Kaiʻaka Bay near Waialua, Hawaii.

Haleʻiwa (Hawaiian pronunciation: [həleˈʔivə]) is a North Shore community and census-designated place (CDP) in the Waialua District of the island of Oʻahu, City and County of Honolulu. Haleʻiwa is located on Waialua Bay, the mouth of Anahulu Stream (also known as Anahulu River). A small boat harbor is located here, and the shore of the bay is surrounded by Haleʻiwa Beach Park (north side) and Haleʻiwa Aliʻi Beach Park (south side). Further west from the center of town is Kaiaka State Recreation Area on Kiaka Point beside Kaiaka Bay. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 4,941. The 2018 estimate was 4,040. It is the largest commercial center on the North Shore of the island. Its old plantation town character is preserved in many of the buildings, making this a popular destination for tourists and residents alike, visiting surfing paddle boarding and diving sites along the north shore. Liliʻuokalani Protestant Church is a historic United Church of Christ church in Haleiwa, Hawaii on the North Shore of Oahu. Its Hawaiian food is renowned including squid lūʻau. Live music and fellowship are also served. The church celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2007. Worship services are held on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

Mokulēʻia (Hawaiian pronunciation: [mokuleːˈʔijə]) is a North Shore community and census-designated place (CDP) in the Waialua District on the island of Oʻahu, City & County of Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, United States. Mokulēʻia means "isle [of] abundance" in Hawaiian. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 1,816. Features of interest here include Mokulēʻia Beach, Mokulēʻia Polo Field, and Dillingham Airfield, west of the town. At the western end of Farrington Highway, approximately 1-mile (1.6 km) beyond Dillingham Airfield entrance, begins the track (trail) to Kaʻena Point, the westernmost tip of Oʻahu. The Anahulu River (also called Anahulu Stream) is a watercourse on the island of Oahu in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is 7.1 miles (11.4 km) long. The Hawaiian meaning of the name is ten days.

Haleiwa Fighter Strip was a military airfield on Oahu, Hawaii. It was used as part of the island's defense in World War II.

On January 14, 2016, two Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters belonging to the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing of the United States Marine Corps collided over the Pacific Ocean off Oahu's North Shore in Hawaii. Each helicopter carried six U.S. Marines from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463. The search and rescue operation located the debris field from the two craft. On January 20, all twelve crew members were declared deceased.

Papailoa Beach, otherwise known as Police Beach, is located on the north shore of the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands. It has gained notoriety as a prime filming location for the popular television show Lost. The production crew changed locations from the original beach (Mokuleia Beach) after the winter surf encroached upon the set constructed for the camp scenes.

Waiʻanae Range (sometimes referred to as the Waianae Mountains) is the eroded remains of an ancient shield volcano that comprises the western half of the Hawaiian Island of Oʻahu. Its crest, at Kaʻala, is the highest peak on Oʻahu at 4,025 feet (1,227 m). Like the neighboring Koʻolau, the Waiʻanae Range is not a mountain range in the sense most people are familiar with, as the mountain range as a whole was created from a single volcano rather than plate tectonics. The oldest lava dated from the volcano are about 3.9 million years old. About 3.2 million years ago, the volcano's activity changed, the rate of eruption started to decrease and the composition of the lava erupted from the volcano changed. The volcano is thought to have last erupted about 2.5 million years ago. When active, the Waiʻanae volcano's center of activity was at present-day Lualualei Valley. Intense erosion on the western flank of the mountain has destroyed much of those flanks. Thus, the mountain today is much smaller than it was when the volcano was active. While the western part of the mountain has been destroyed by erosion, the eastern part is still in a youthful stage of erosion. This is considered somewhat strange by some geologists since the western part of the volcano is on the leeward side of the island; thus, most rain falls on the eastern side of the volcano. Given this information, more erosion would be expected on the eastern portion of the mountain. One theory to explain this erosion pattern is that a large landslide cut away the western portion of the volcano. The faults from this huge landslide weakened the rock, making the western part of the mountain much more susceptible to erosion than the eastern side.

Kaʻala or Mount Kaʻala (pronounced [kəˈʔɐlə] in Hawaiian) is the highest mountain on the island of Oahu, at 1,227 metres (4,026 ft). It is a part of the Waianae Range, an eroded shield volcano on the west side of the island. The FAA maintains an active tracking station at the summit, which is closed to the general public and secured by the US Army which is stationed at the base of the mountain, at Schofield Barracks. The tracking station can be clearly seen from afar as a white, domed-shaped structure.

The North Shore, in the context of geography of the Island of Oʻahu, refers to the north-facing coastal area of Oʻahu between Kaʻena Point and Kahuku. The largest settlement is Haleʻiwa. This area is best known for its massive waves, attracting surfers from all around the globe.
