Joseph S. Miller House is a historic home located at Kenova, Wayne County, West Virginia. It was built in 1891, in the Queen Anne style with Eastlake decorative elements. It is a two-story frame dwelling on a sandstone foundation with tower. It features a combination of wood fish scale, diamond and octagon shingles on the balcony, the west bay, and tower sections.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.It is well known in the area for the annual tradition of decorating with thousands of pumpkins in the fall; colloquially becoming known as the "Pumpkin House".

Mitch Stadium is a baseball field located on the boundary line between the Town of Ceredo and the City of Kenova in West Virginia. It is home to the Ceredo-Kenova Little League and numerous annual community events. The stadium was created in 1955 and is named in honor of Elmer "Big Mitch" Mitchell, who served as groundskeeper at the facility for 27 years until his death in 1981. The facility at Mitch Stadium has previously hosted concerts, youth football and soccer events, and community carnivals and festivals. "The Mitch" has hosted 7 West Virginia Little League State Tournaments, the 1965 Little League Divisional Tournament, the 2009 Little League 2009 Little League Southeast Regional baseball and softball tournaments, and served as the initial host of the Little League 9-10 Year-Old Tournament of State Champions.

Ceredo is a town in Wayne County, West Virginia, United States, situated along the Ohio River. The population was 1,450 at the 2010 census. Ceredo is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649. The city is also near the location of the Southern Airways Flight 932 aviation disaster. On November 14, 1970, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 airplane carrying the Marshall University football team crashed on a hillside on approach to the Tri-State Airport, killing all 75 on board. A movie about the tragedy, We Are Marshall, was released in 2006.

South Point is a village in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 3,836 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area. The village mayor is Jeff Gaskin, who was elected in November 2015.

First United Methodist Church (also called First Methodist Episcopal Church) is a historic church at 2712 Louisa Street in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. It was built in 1867 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Catlettsburg is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Boyd County, Kentucky, United States. The city population was 1,780 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area.

Z. D. Ramsdell House, also known as The Ramsdell House, is a historic home located at Ceredo, Wayne County, West Virginia, atop a mound claimed to be an Indian burial mound. It was built in 1857–1858, and is a two-story red brick and frame dwelling measuring 30 feet wide and 48 feet deep. It sits on a stone foundation and is in the Greek Revival-style with a gable roof. Zophar D. Ramsdell came to Ceredo at the invitation of the town's founder, and fellow abolitionist, Eli Thayer. He built a shoe and boot factory, served as a Captain and Quartermaster during the American Civil War, served as a postmaster after the war, and served as a legislative representative in the West Virginia State Senate during 1868 and 1869. The home is believed to be one of the last stops of The Underground Railroad before crossing the Ohio River to freedom. It is open as a historic house museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Big Sandy River, called Sandy Creek as early as 1756, is a tributary of the Ohio River, approximately 29 miles (47 km) long, in western West Virginia and northeastern Kentucky in the United States. The river forms part of the boundary between the two states along its entire course. Via the Ohio River, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed. It is formed between Louisa, Kentucky, and Fort Gay, West Virginia, by the confluence of the Tug Fork and Levisa Fork. It flows generally northwardly in a highly meandering course, between Lawrence and Boyd counties in Kentucky and Wayne County in West Virginia. It joins the Ohio between Catlettsburg, Kentucky and Kenova, West Virginia, 8 miles (13 km) west of Huntington, West Virginia, at the common boundary between West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. The river is navigable and carries commercial shipping, primarily coal mined in the immediate region. The name of the river, originally called Sandy Creek by 1756, comes from the presence of extensive sand bars. The Native American names for the river included Tatteroa, Chatteroi, and Chatterwha. The name "Big Sandy" was in use no later than February, 1789.George Washington surveyed land at the mouth of the river between 1768 and 1772.

Southern Airways Flight 932 was a chartered Southern Airways Douglas DC-9 domestic United States commercial jet flight from Stallings Field (ISO) in Kinston, North Carolina, to Huntington Tri-State Airport/Milton J. Ferguson Field (HTS) near Kenova and Ceredo, West Virginia. At 7:36 pm on November 14, 1970, the aircraft crashed into a hill just short of the Tri-State Airport, killing all 75 people on board in what has been recognized as "the worst sports-related air tragedy in U.S. history".The plane was carrying 37 members of the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team, eight members of the coaching staff, 25 boosters, two pilots, two flight attendants, and a charter coordinator. The team was returning home after a 17–14 loss to the East Carolina Pirates at Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina.At the time, Marshall's athletic teams rarely traveled by plane, since most away games were within easy driving distance of the campus. The team originally planned to cancel the flight, but changed plans and chartered the Southern Airways DC-9. The accident is the deadliest tragedy to have affected any sports team in U.S. history.It was the second college football team plane crash in a little over a month, after the October 2 crash that killed 31 (head coach, 14 Wichita State players, and 16 others).

Catlettsburg is a former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad station located in downtown Catlettsburg, Kentucky. Opened between 1897 and 1890 to replace an older wooden station, it served trains until 1958. Amtrak trains began stopping at Tri-State Station some 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the north in 1975; it was renamed Catlettsburg around 1988. Amtrak service was moved from Catlettsburg to Ashland in 1998. The C&O station was refurbished from 2004 to 2006 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
