Bolton, Vermont

Bolton Valley is a mid-sized ski area in the town of Bolton in Chittenden County, Vermont, United States. It is located in close proximity to Burlington, the largest city in the state of Vermont. The community around the base of the ski area was listed as the Bolton Valley census-designated place prior to the 2020 census.

Bolton is the primary village and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bolton, Chittenden County, Vermont, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. The village is in eastern Chittenden County, on the north side of the valley of the Winooski River as it cuts through the center of the Green Mountains. The village is located along U.S. Route 2, which leads east 7 miles (11 km) to Waterbury and west 6 miles (10 km) to Richmond. Interstate 89 forms the northern edge of the community; the nearest access is from Exit 10 at Waterbury or Exit 11 at Richmond.

The Preston–Lafreniere Farm is a historic farm property at Duxbury and Honey Hollow Roads in Bolton, Vermont. Established in the early 19th century, it was operated by five generations of the Preston family through the 1990s. The property includes both a house and barn that date to the early 19th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, and is subject to a conservation easement held by the state.

Bolton Mountain is a mountain located in Chittenden County, Vermont. Bolton is flanked to the north by Mount Mayo. Bolton Mountain stands within the watershed of Lake Champlain, which drains into Canada's Richelieu River, the Saint Lawrence River, and into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The northeast slopes of Bolton Mountain drain into Miller Brook, thence into the Little River, the Winooski River, and into Lake Champlain. The southeast slopes of Bolton Mountain drain into Cotton Brook, thence into the Little River. The south end of Bolton drains into Joiner Brook, thence into the Winooski River. The west slopes of Bolton drain into Mill Brook, thence into the Winooski River. The northwest slopes of Bolton drain into Lee River, thence into Browns River, the Lamoille River, and into Lake Champlain. The Long Trail, a 272-mile (438-km) hiking trail running the length of Vermont, crosses the summit of Bolton Mountain.

Built about 1868, it is a prominent local example of Italianate school architecture, and was used as a school until 1955. It is now in private ownership as a residence. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Wilson Alwyn "Snowflake" Bentley House is a historic house on Nashville Road in Jericho, Vermont. Built about 1860, it was the lifelong home of Wilson Bentley (1865-1931), the town's best known resident and one of world's innovators in the photography of snowflakes. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The M.S. Whitcomb Farm is a historic farm property on United States Route 2 in Richmond, Vermont. Established in the 1850s as a horse farm, it has seen agricultural use in some form since then. Its most distinguishing feature is a large bank barn with a monitor roof, built in 1901. The property, now 170 acres (69 ha), was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Chittenden-8 District consists of the Chittenden County towns of Bolton, Jericho, and Underhill. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The two member Chittenden-8 District had a population of 8,966 in that same census, 10.45% above the state average. It has the highest population of any House of Representatives district in the state.

Gray Rocks is a historic farm property on United States Route 2 in Richmond, Vermont. Developed in the early 19th century, it was in agricultural use until 1978, and has a well-preserved set of farm buildings dating from c. 1813 to the early 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Skiing Cochrans are a family of American alpine ski racers from Richmond, Vermont, a dominant force on the U.S. Ski Team in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and again in 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.In 1961, parents Mickey and Ginny Cochran built a small ski area on their hillside property along the Winooski River in rural Vermont, the Cochrans' ski hill, where they trained their four children to be world-class ski racers. All four - Bob, Barbara Ann, Marilyn and Lindy - represented the U.S. in the Winter Olympics, with Barbara Ann winning the gold medal in slalom at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan. The next generation of Cochrans has continued the racing tradition, placing six family members on the U.S. Ski Team, while Cochran's Ski Area has grown into a local winter recreation area with three lifts and eight slopes attracting families from around Vermont.
