Chengalpattu

Chengalpattu taluk is a taluk of Chengalpattu district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The headquarters of the taluk is the town of Chengalpattu.

Chengalpattu is a state assembly constituency in Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu, India. Its State Assembly Constituency number is 32. It comprises a portion of Chengalpattu taluk and is a part of the Kancheepuram constituency for national elections to the Parliament of India. It is one of the 234 State Legislative Assembly Constituencies in Tamil Nadu, in India. The Vanniyar community is the majority community in this constituency with around 30% population. The population of other communities are: Paraiyar 22%, All Vellala Mudhaliyars + Senguntha Mudhaliyars 15%, All kinds of Naidus 8%, Konar 7% and 5% Muslims.

Chengalpattu is a defunct Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu. It was earlier known as Chingleput. This constituency no longer exists, since it was defunct after 2009, due to delimitation. The region covered by this constituency are now a part of the Kancheepuram (Lok Sabha constituency).

Chingleput district was a district in the Madras Presidency of British India. It covered the area of the present-day districts of Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur and parts of Chennai city. It was sub-divided into six taluks with a total area of 7,970 square kilometres (3,079 sq mi). The first capital was the town of Karunguzhi, with an interruption between 1825 and 1835, administrative headquarters were transferred to Kanchipuram. In 1859, the capital Saidapet, now a neighbourhood in the city of Chennai, was made the administrative headquarters of the district.

Rajeswari Vedachalam Government Arts College, is a general degree college located at Anna Nagar, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was established in the year 1970. The college is affiliated with University of Madras. This college offers different courses in arts, commerce, technology and sciences.

Melamaiyur is a census town in Chengalpattu district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Chengalpattu Junction railway station is a railway junction of the southern section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network situated in the town of Chengalpattu, 56 kilometres (35 mi) south-west of Chennai Beach. The station falls in the Chennai railway division of the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways. Officially it bears the code CGL.

The Diocese of Chingleput (Latin: Chingleputen(sis)) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or diocese of the Catholic Church in India. Its episcopal see is Chingleput. The Diocese of Chingleput is a suffragan in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Madras and Mylapore.

Kolavai Lake is a lake adjoining the town of Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu, India. The lake is located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Chennai, and is close to Paranur railway station and Chengalpattu Junction railway station. During times of acute water shortage in summer, this lake serves as an additional source of water for the city of Chennai. The lake hosts migratory birds such as the whiskered tern, Indian spot-billed ducks, moorhens, coots, and small waders.

Gnanapureeswarar Temple, Tiruvadishoolam (ஞானபுரீஸ்வரர் கோயில், திருவடிசூலம்) is a Hindu temple located at Tiruvadishoolam near Chengalpattu in the Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu, India.

Paranur is a village in India near the busy GST Road or National Highway 45. It has a railway station and few hundred houses, and is 44 km from Chennai International Airport in Tirusulam. Paranur comes under Panchayat union/block of Kattankulathur, and Panchayat Raj under Veerapuram. Paranur has been a special economic zone (SEZ) since October 2005.

Paranur railway station is one of the railway stations of the Chennai Beach–Chengalpattu section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It is situated at a distance of 55 km south of Chennai Beach terminus and has an elevation of 42 m above sea level. It serves the neighbourhood of Paranur and the Mahindra World City at New Chennai. The station is noted for its maintenance by a public–private partnership between Mahindra World City Developers (MWCD) and the Indian Railways, reportedly the first of its kind in the country. MWCD gave the station a makeover after Mahindra World City, an integrated business zone, was developed in the neighbourhood.
