Alton North is a former census-designated place (CDP) in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,051 at the 2000 census. It is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission Metropolitan Statistical Area.

KIRT was a radio station at 1580 AM in Mission, Texas. It was owned by Bravo Broadcasting Company and carried a Spanish Christian talk format known as La Radical. Its license was revoked on November 21, 2023, for failure to pay regulatory fees.

Sharyland Pioneer High School is a public high school located in unincorporated Hidalgo County, Texas, near Mission. It is part of the Sharyland Independent School District. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. The first graduating class from Pioneer high school was in 2015 with roughly about 150 seniors since most decided to finish their senior year at Sharyland high school. The first full four year graduating class, that spent all their four years at Pioneer, was the class of 2018. The school serves sections of Mission, McAllen, Palmhurst, and Alton.

Palmview High School is a public senior high school in the La Homa census-designated place in unincorporated Hidalgo County, Texas, with a Mission postal address, and a part of the La Joya Independent School District. Palmview is a Texas UIL Division 5A high school named after the city of Palmview. The school is home to students that live on the east side of La Joya ISD.Palmview High serves sections of Alton, Mission, and Palmview, as well as parts of the census-designated places of Doffing, La Homa, Palmview South, Perezville, and West Sharyland.

It shares a studio with its sister stations, KHKZ, KBFM, KTEX, and KVNS, located close to the KRGV-TV studios in Weslaco, Texas, while its transmitter is located in Mission, Texas.

Mission High School is a secondary school located in Mission, Texas. It is a part of the Mission Consolidated Independent School District. It serves sections of Mission, Palmhurst, and Alton, as well as the Mission CISD portion of the unincorporated area of West Sharyland.Tom Landry For many years, Mission High School was the city's only high school. As of 2011, it competed in the 5-A Texas classification was home to some 2,200 students. At its peak, it was home to over 4,000 students before MCISD split the Mission High School attendance zone into two, with the addition of Veterans Memorial High School. Mission High students were victims of the September 21, 1989 Alton, Texas bus crash; the students' school bus, also carrying students to Mission Junior High, fell into a caliche pit after a collision with a truck, causing 21 deaths.

The Border Theater is a historic movie theater in Mission, Texas. Located at 905 North Conway Boulevard it is in the city's central business district. Built in 1942 it continues to operate as an entertainment venue. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 28 August 1998.The theater was the flagship operation for the Rio Grande Valley theater owners Robert N. and Dell Smith. They hired Dallas architect William J. Moore to design the building and George Holliday was the general contractor. The opening of Moore Army Air Corps Field in 1941 created a market for entertainment. The Smith brothers at one point had five facilities in South Texas. The movie shown at the opening on 3 April 1942 was a Roy Rogers film, Heart of the Rio Grande.The facade presents elements of Pueblo Revival architecture with its stucco exterior, faux vigas and heavy wooden lintels. Stucco covers the entire front of the building wrapping around each side. Vigas are evenly spaced across the facade three feet below the roofline and above the portico. A large marquee attached to the facade and extending above the roofline bears the theater's name in large red letters. A five sided ticket booth is flanked by inset entrance doors. The ticket booth is bordered with terracotta tiles and faced with several decorative tiles with southwestern scenes.The theater has seating for 500 on a main floor and balcony. The balcony retains the original "Floating Comfort" International seating while the main floor seating was replaced in 1967. Two large murals fill the long side walls of the theater. These murals show idealized scenes of Hispanic life in the area before Anglo occupation. Originally fluorescent paint was used so, illuminated with blacklight these murals could be seen when the house lights were dimmed. They were painted in 1942 by artist E. Risser of the Dallas firm King Scene Company from images copyrighted by McCrossen Manufacturing Company of Santa Fe.The two and three story building faces east onto Conway Blvd. One in a row of commercial buildings it is the dominant architectural resource on the block. It is built with a wood frame and common-bond brick veneer. The north and south walls are stepped parapets with buttress-like brickwork adding visual support and matching the step downs. These tall walls are visible above the nearby buildings. The facade is an asymmetrical 2 part composition. In an arrangement typical of movie theaters of the time the theater and a small store occupy a 3-story part of the building with a 2-story wing extending north.There is a small retail space to the south of the entrance also finished with stucco and terracotta. The two story northern portion of the building is a separate commercial space with large display windows and a door at an angle to the street. This space is also similarly finished. Upstairs windows feature heavy wooden lintels and decorative wooden grates. A large spandrel beam extends the full length of the facade. When originally finished the building included office spaces, a clinic, two store and two apartments.In the 1990s a metal canopy spanning the entire facade was replaced with a narrow hip roof of Spanish tile over the entry. The screen was replaced with a wide view Cinemascope screen in 1952. Despite these and other minor changes the theater retains the design and atmosphere of the time of its construction. It remains a rare well preserved example of Pueblo Revival architecture in an area where Spanish Colonial Revival architecture predominates. Official Texas Historical Marker #12060 at the nearby corner commemorates the Border Theater's listing as a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark in 1997.

James "Nikki" Rowe High School is one of three high schools and the only T. E. A. recognized high school serving the McAllen, Texas area as a part of the McAllen Independent School District. It houses over 4,200 students from grades 9–12. The school originally opened in 1990, its current location is 2101 North Ware Road McAllen, Texas, United States. The school colors are green and gold and the mascot is the warrior. All athletic teams compete in the UIL District 30-6A.The school was named after James Nicholas "Nikki" Rowe (1938–1989), who was born in McAllen, Texas to Lee Delavan and Florence (Survillo) Rowe. He grew up in McAllen and graduated from McAllen High School in 1956 before leaving for the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Rowe graduated from West Point in 1960 and became a United States Army officer and later one of only thirty-four American prisoners of war to escape captivity during the Vietnam War.Nikki Rowe High School was the newest addition to the McAllen Independent School District. Nikki Rowe High School was established in 1990 as a ninth grade center, and in 1992 became a class 5A high school. Rowe High School courses include: Advanced Placement, Honors Courses, College Preparatory Courses, and regular level courses. Nikki Rowe High School was the first in McAllen to establish the ACE program—A Chance to Excel. Rowe also offers the Quest program—a search for success, and Project Stay in School. In, 2010 Nikki Rowe High School was officially recognized by Texas Education Agency, for surpassing state mandate requirement as a 30 5A District campus.
