Copperhill, Tennessee

Fightingtown Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is a tributary to the Ocoee River. Fightingtown is accurate preservation of its native Cherokee name, for near the site met warring tribal leaders.

McCaysville is a city in Fannin County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,149 at the 2020 census. It is the second largest city in Fannin County after Blue Ridge.

Belltown is an unincorporated community in Polk County, in the U.S. state of Tennessee. A large share of Belltown's original inhabitants had the surname Bell, hence the name.

The Copper Basin, also known as the Ducktown Basin, is a geological region located primarily in Polk County, Tennessee, that contains deposits of copper ore and covers approximately 60,000 acres (24,000 hectares). Located in the southeastern corner of Tennessee, small portions of the basin extend into Fannin County, Georgia, and Cherokee County, North Carolina. The basin is surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest, and the cities of Ducktown and Copperhill, Tennessee, and McCaysville, Georgia are located in the basin. Copper was first discovered in the basin in 1843, and by the 1850s large mining operations, spearheaded by German-born businessman Julius Eckhardt Raht, were taking place. The mines were seized by the Confederacy during the American Civil War and were the source of about 90% of the copper used by the Confederate Army. After the Civil War, smelting operations, which were used to separate sulfur from the copper ore, resulted in acid rain in the area. Combined with the logging of nearby forests to fuel the smelters, this resulted in a massive environmental disaster that left the surrounding landscape barren for more than a century. Several mines, the largest of which was the Burra Burra Mine, operated in the basin. By the 1950s, mining operations in the Copper Basin began to decline, with the final mine closing in 1987. Today, the Ducktown Basin Museum chronicles the geological record and history of the mining operations in the basin.

Martin Campbell Field is a general aviation airport located near Copperhill, Tennessee. It serves the Copper Basin region in which it is located, as well as the entirety of Polk County and surrounding areas.

Epworth is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Fannin County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 480. It lies at an elevation of 1,703 feet (519 m) in the north-central part of the county. A former name was Atalla. The ZIP code is 30541.Epworth is located on Georgia State Route 5 between Blue Ridge (the county seat to the south) and McCaysville (on the Tennessee state line to the north).

WLYY (1400 AM) was a radio station licensed to Copperhill, Tennessee, United States. The station was owned by Joy Christian Communications, Inc. The station signed on December 2, 1958 as WLSB. It changed its call letters to WLYY on June 23, 2013. On March 6, 2017, Joy Christian Communications requested the cancellation of the station's license, saying that WLYY "is no longer a viable operation" following the loss of its tower site; the license was cancelled on April 26, 2017.

Hothouse Creek is a stream in the U.S. states of Georgia and North Carolina. It is a tributary to the Toccoa/Ocoee River. Hothouse Creek was named for Cherokee sweat lodges in the area. An alternative spelling is "Hot House Creek".

Mineral Bluff Depot is a historic train depot of the Marietta and North Georgia Railroad that was built in 1887, in Mineral Bluff, Georgia. It is located at 150 Railroad Avenue.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 1, 2007. It had passenger service until 1949 and freight service until the late 1950s.

Mineral Bluff is a census-designated place and unincorporated community located in Fannin County in the U.S. state of Georgia. Its population was 223 as of the 2020 census. The community is situated 6 miles (10 km) northeast of the city of Blue Ridge, the county seat, 80 miles (130 km) east of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and 100 miles (160 km) north of Atlanta.

James W. Baugh Homeplace is a former residence in Blue Ridge, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, at which time it was the Baugh House Museum. It is located at 411 West First Street, Blue Ridge, GA 30513. It was deemed significant as a "rare two-story masonry I-house residence with Folk Victorian style elements." It was built in 1890 by James W. Baugh (1862-1915) and his brothers, all skilled masons, using bricks made on the site, to serve as home for James and his wife. James had moved to Blue Ridge from Polk County, Tennessee in c.1890 with his wife, Mary Theresa Geisler (1871-1962). The property was deeded to the city of Blue Ridge in 1987. The building is now operated as the Fannin County Historical Museum by the Fannin County Heritage Foundation. It is also known as the Baugh House Museum.
