Ooltewah, Tennessee

The James County Courthouse is a historic building located in Ooltewah, Tennessee. It was built in 1913 as the third courthouse of the now defunct James County. It continued to function in that capacity until 1919, when James County went bankrupt and was absorbed by Hamilton County. In 1976, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was privately purchased in 2000 and is used as the Mountain Oaks Wedding Chapel.

Ooltewah High School (OHS) is a public high school located in Ooltewah, Tennessee, near Chattanooga. It is part of the Hamilton County Schools system.

James County was created by an act of the Tennessee General Assembly on January 30, 1871. Lands were taken from a small portion of Bradley County and the eastern third of Hamilton County. James County was named in honor of the Rev. Jesse J. James, the father of Elbert Abdiel James, who introduced legislation for the formation of the county. Ooltewah was selected as the county seat. The county went bankrupt in April 1919 and was reincorporated into Hamilton County by a vote of its citizens on December 11, 1919. Few records remain of what was once James County due largely to courthouse fires in 1890 and 1913. The few remaining James County records are now kept in Hamilton County. The third and final James County Courthouse is the major landmark of Ooltewah.

Southern Adventist University is a private Seventh-day Adventist university in Collegedale, Tennessee. It is owned and operated by the Southern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. It was founded in 1892 in Graysville, Tennessee, as Graysville Academy and was the first Adventist school in the southern U.S. Due to the need for additional space for expansion the school relocated in 1916 and was renamed Southern Junior College. In 1944, Southern began awarding baccalaureate degrees and was renamed Southern Missionary College. In 1996 the institution started conferring master's degrees and adopted its current name. Southern offers associate, baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees. The university and its programs are accredited by multiple organizations including the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Its Institute of Archaeology offers an undergraduate degree in biblical archaeology; Southern is one of only two schools which offer the degree. It is known for its emphasis on Adventist beliefs and conservative religious and social practices, and is considered the most conservative of the Seventh-day Adventist schools in North America. The college operates a radio station (WSMC-FM), a health food store and a wellness center. Enrollment was 3,053 students in 2010, its highest level to date.

Collegedale is a city in Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 11,109 at the 2020 census. Collegedale is a suburb of Chattanooga and is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Collegedale is home to Southern Adventist University. The median household income is one of the highest in Hamilton County. It has been ranked as one of the best and safest places to live in Tennessee. The unincorporated community of Ooltewah is an enclave in Collegedale.

The 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship was a golf tournament contested from June 1–6, 2010 at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee. It was the 72nd NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The team championship was won by the Augusta State Jaguars, their first, who defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the championship match play round 31⁄2 to 21⁄2. The individual national championship was won by Scott Langley from the University of Illinois.

The Honors Course is a privately owned golf course located near Ooltewah, Tennessee, just north of Chattanooga. The club was founded by Coca-Cola bottling heir Jack Lupton and designed by Pete Dye in 1983. It has been the number one ranked course in the state, number twenty-eight on Golf Digest's list of the top one-hundred golf courses in America, and has been the site of amateur tournaments as the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Mid-Amateur, NCAA Championships, and U.S. Junior Championship. Jack Lupton's main idea in founding The Honors Course was to create a place to honor amateur golf and amateur golfers. The course is located in an unincorporated area of Hamilton County, Tennessee, just north of the unincorporated community of Ooltewah.

WMYU-LP (99.7 FM, "My 100") is a radio station broadcasting a Contemporary Inspirational music format. Licensed to Ooltewah, Tennessee, United States, the station is currently owned by The Freedom Fund and features programming from USA Radio Network.

The Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center is located in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee, and is operated by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. The maximum capacity as of 2016 is 1046. Always primarily used by the county, the facility has also had "an unusual mix of prisoners", murderers convicted by the state serving long terms, and DUI and traffic offenders in for a stretch of 48 hours. It has also taken federal inmates, such as pre-trial detainees held by the U.S. Marshals Service.The facility opened in the fall of 1984 with 325 beds. Its initial financial performance by May 1985 was disappointing for the county, after paying a per-head per-diem of $21 on an unexpectedly high number of prisoners.

The Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant (or Chattanooga Operations LLC) is an American automobile assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The plant was formally announced in July 2008 and was formally inaugurated in May 2011.Production began in April 2011 with the model year 2012 Passat B7 (initially called the Passat NMS (New Midsize Sedan)), tailored to the US market, with a projected annual production of 150,000 cars. Passat production ended in December, 2021.Production of the Volkswagen Atlas commenced in 2017. Production of the electric Volkswagen ID.4 commenced July 26, 2022.

East Brainerd is an unincorporated community and former census-designated place (CDP) in Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 14,132 at the 2000 census and was not recorded at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

East Hamilton High School is a public school located in Ooltewah, Tennessee. Established and opened in 2009, it was originally a "middle high school" that enrolled students from grades 6–12. In December 2020, the new East Hamilton Middle School opened and East Hamilton Middle High School became just East Hamilton High School. Now students in grades 6-8 attend the new East Hamilton Middle School, and students in grades 9-12 attend East Hamilton High School. Both schools also now have separate school web addresses. Currently, the principal of East Hamilton High School is Brent Eller.
