James F. Byrnes High School is located in Duncan, South Carolina. It is named after the former Governor of South Carolina and U.S. Secretary of State, James F. Byrnes. The James F. Byrnes Freshman Academy is situated at the former location of D. R. Hill Middle School.

South Carolina's 4th congressional district is a congressional district in upstate South Carolina bordering North Carolina. It includes parts of Greenville and Spartanburg counties. The district includes the two major cities of Greenville and Spartanburg. The district is one of the most conservative in the state. In the late 20th century, it has been in Republican hands since 1979, aside from a six-year stint by Democrat Liz J. Patterson, the daughter of former Senator Olin Johnston. Even before the Republicans finally took control of the seat, the 4th had been a rather conservative district. Like in most of the state, the old-line Southern Democrats began splitting their tickets as early as the 1940s. However, this area's white conservatives became increasingly willing to support Republicans at the state and local level as early as the 1970s, well before the rest of the state swung Republican. The district is a major destination for presidential candidates in election years, as South Carolina is one of the first states to hold a presidential primary. Republican William Timmons has represented the district since January 3, 2019. He succeeded Republican Trey Gowdy who did not seek reelection. From 2003 to 2013, the district included all of Spartanburg and Union counties and parts of Greenville and Laurens counties. Greenville and parts of Spartanburg counties are entirely within the district.

McMakin's Tavern, also known as the Morgan-Stewart House, is a historic stagecoach stop and plantation home located near Lyman, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It was built about 1790, and is a two-story, clapboard single house with gable end chimneys. It features a one-story, full width veranda supported by square columns. The interior features elaborately carved woodwork in the Adam style. The house operated as a stagecoach stop in the early-19th century.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Startex is a census-designated place (CDP) in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 859 at the 2010 census. The area was originally known as Tucapau, named after the mill that was built there in 1896. In 1936, Walter Montgomery Sr. bought the mill and changed its name to Startex—the brand name of household textiles produced at the plant. The mill ceased operations in 1998 and was mostly dismantled in 1999.

New Hope Farm, also known as New Hope Post Office and Snoddy Farm, is a historic farm complex located at Wellford, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The main house was built in 1885, and is a one-story farmhouse with Folk Victorian decorative elements. It features a steeply-pitched pressed metal-shingled roof, weatherboard siding, and a wraparound hip-roofed porch. Also on the property is a complex of domestic and agricultural outbuildings dating from about 1885 to 1905. They include a small two-story frame servant's house, a smokehouse, a privy, a corn crib, a buggy barn and a garage.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Hollywild Animal Park is a non-profit zoo in Wellford, South Carolina. The 100-acre (40 ha) park has more than 500 animals. A number of the animals have appeared in TV shows and movies. The park includes an outback safari which covers more than 70 acres (28 ha). The animals roam freely in this area, giving guests the opportunity to hand feed animals such as fallow deer, sika deer, white tail deer, zebras, bison, Watusi cattle, Scottish Highlanders, donkeys, emus, and more. The park was named for their animals' history with films and commercials. Some of their stars include Tank the southern white rhinoceros, Capuchin monkeys, zebras, chimpanzees, African lions, cougars, an Appaloosa horse, macaws, lynx, Siberian tigers, brown bears, leopards, baboons, jaguars, orangutans, camels, and Asian elephants. HollyWild also focuses on learning opportunities for the guests, beginning with hand feeding animals, but they go as far as field trips, programs for scouts, camps, home school Days, and outreach programs.

Fort Prince was built in Spartanburg County, South Carolina for protection against the Cherokee Indians. It was near the residence of a Mr. Prince. Fort Prince was the general rallying point in times of danger when the people of the settlement sought safety. Just in front was a creek for their washing. Nearby stood a mill which ground corn, later known as Grays Mill. There was a Battle of Fort Prince during the American Revolutionary War, when Edward Hampton drove the British from the fort on July 15, 1780, and it stood for several years after.
