RAF Prestatyn

Gwaenysgor is a small village in Flintshire, Wales. Located near Prestatyn in north Wales, it lies at an elevation of 600 feet, 183 metres. There is one pub, the Eagle and Child. The remnants of RAF Prestatyn lie on the hill nearby. (St. Elmo's Summerhouse).

Prestatyn Community Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Cymunedol Prestatyn) was a community hospital in Prestatyn, Wales. It was managed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

Prestatyn Castle is a motte and bailey castle in Prestatyn, Wales, built in 1157 on land granted to the Norman lord Robert Banastre by King Henry II of England. It was built on level ground on the coastal plain and commanded an extensive view. Nowadays the mound and slight remnants of a causeway are all that is visible.

Trelawnyd and Gwaenysgor is a community in Flintshire, Wales. The community includes the villages of Trelawnyd and Gwaenysgor. The community council is made up of 9 councillors - 6 to represent the Trelawnyd ward and 3 to represent Gwaenysgor.It is part of the Llanasa and Trelawnyd electoral ward on Flintshire County Council, which elects two councillors. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 5,173.

St. Melyd Golf Links railway station was a stop on Dyserth branch line (now a footpath). Passengers would have to access from the Gwaenysgor facing side of the golf course. All that remains here is a post that has long overgrown with foliage. This post was probably used to bear the station name. The branch line to Dyserth was opened by the LNWR in 1869, initially for mineral traffic only. A passenger service was instituted in 1905 but lasted only until 1930, when it was withdrawn by the LMS. The line remained open to serve a quarry at Dyserth until complete closure in 1973.

Woodland Park was an unstaffed halt on the Dyserth branch line in North Wales. The branch opened in 1869 for mineral traffic. In 1905 the LNWR began an innovative passenger service along the branch using steam Railmotors. The halt opened with the new service. It was situated in an open country next to an overbridge carrying the road to Rhuddlan. Although the road is shown as "Meliden Road" on both maps of the era and modern maps the halt was named Rhuddlan Road. In the 1920s the substantial Woodland Park housing estate was built between the line and Prestatyn, utterly changing the character of the area. The halt was renamed Woodland Park in 1923 to reflect this new market. Railmotors had retracting steps so conventional raised platforms were not needed. The halt was therefore built with a very short ground level platform. Initially, it had no waiting facilities whatever, but by 1910 a cabin little larger than two phone booths were provided. The passenger service lasted only until 1930, when the LMS withdrew it. The line remained open to serve a quarry at Dyserth until its complete closure in 1973.Since closure most of the former railway has been converted into a footpath. At the former station site visitors on this walk will notice the ground being higher up on the left when walking from Prestatyn towards Dyserth; this was probably where the platform would have been.

Prestatyn () is a seaside town and community in Denbighshire, Wales. Historically a part of Flintshire, it is located on the Irish Sea coast, to the east of Rhyl. Prestatyn has a population of 19,085.

Prestatyn High School is the only secondary school in the town of Prestatyn, and one of 9 secondary schools in the entire county of Denbighshire. It is one of the largest schools in the region and the country with over 1,800 pupils and 250 staff. The school is taught through the English medium.

The Gop (Welsh: Coparleni, also known as Gop Cairn or Gop-y-Goleuni) is a neolithic monument lying within the Clwydian Range, northwest of Trelawnyd, in Flintshire, Wales. There is evidence that there was a considerable amount of stone on the top of hill, which may indicate that it was used as a look-out or hill fort.

Prestatyn Chapel Street railway station was the first stop on the Dyserth branch line (now a footpath). It was the only station on the line to have a level crossing. It is also unique because pieces of track have been built into the ground as a feature of historical interest. The platform and signs have long gone, but a remaining piece of railing would have been there to separate the road and the railway. Prestatyn railway station on the North Wales Coast Line serves the town of Prestatyn in North Wales. The station was built on the Chester and Holyhead Railway (CHR) line and opened on 1 May 1848. The coming of the railway is credited with bringing large numbers of tourists and prosperity to the town. When the CHR was acquired by the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), further expansion occurred at Prestatyn and the station became a junction for a branch line to Dyserth. In the 1890s, the LNWR built the current station. Passenger numbers dipped significantly during the mid 20th century. After British Rail tried to close the station in the 1960s, the line and station were rationalised but remained operational. In 1979, the station was renovated. It is managed by Transport for Wales, who operate services from Cardiff Central, Birmingham International and Manchester Piccadilly to Holyhead and Llandudno; other services are provided by Avanti West Coast between Holyhead and London Euston.

Gronant is a village in Flintshire, Wales, about 2 miles east of Prestatyn. The population, as measured by the 2001 census, is 1,595, living in 697 households. The average age of the populace is 41.4 years, slightly higher than the national average. Following reorganisation all the population is now listed under the community of Llanasa; the electoral ward remains, its population at the 2011 census being 1,527.Gronant's most famous resident was probably Elis Gruffydd (c. 1490-c. 1552), a noted Welsh chronicler of the early modern period. A soldier who served in the English garrison at Calais, Gruffudd's chronicle is held at the National Library of Wales.Gronant dunes are part of an extensive network of dunes extending from Prestatyn in Denbighshire to the Point of Ayr in Flintshire which is at the entrance to the Dee Estuary. They are designated as a Local Nature Reserve and the dune system as a whole is recognized as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
