Leça da Palmeira

The Fort of Leça da Palmeira (Portuguese: Forte de Leça da Palmeira), or alternately the Castle of Matosinhos (Portuguese: Castelo de Matosinhos) is a 17th-century fort located in civil parish of Leça da Palmeira, municipality of Matosinhos in the Greater Porto region of Portugal.

The Tidal pools of Leça da Palmeira (Portuguese: Piscinas de Maré de Leça da Palmeira) is swimming area on the beach of Leça da Palmeira, along the coast of the civil parish of Matosinhos e Leça da Palmeira, municipality of Matosinhos, in the Portuguese northern district of Porto. The structures consist of two natural pools filled with fresh sea water, designed and built between 1959 and 1973 by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. Situated 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from the Boa Nova tearoom and restaurant, it is considered one of Siza Vieira early projects.

Matosinhos (Portuguese pronunciation: [mɐtuˈziɲuʃ] (listen)) is a city and a municipality in the northern Porto district of Portugal, bordered in the south by the city of Porto (8 km from the city centre). The population in 2011 was 175,478, and covered an area of approximately 62.42 square kilometres (24.10 sq mi). The urban centre, the city proper, had a population of 45,703 in 2001.

The Port of Leixões (Portuguese: Porto de Leixões, pronounced [lɐjˈʃõj̃ʃ]) is one of Portugal's major seaports, located 4 km north of the mouth of the Douro River, in Matosinhos municipality, near the city of Porto. Leixões Sport Club, commonly known simply as Leixões, is Matosinhos' sports club. The Port of Leixões is the largest port infrastructure in the Northern Region of Portugal and one of the most important in the Country.

Matosinhos e Leça da Palmeira is a civil parish in the municipality of Matosinhos, Northern Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Matosinhos and Leça da Palmeira. The population in 2011 was 49,486, in an area of 12.16 km².

Jakob Maersk was an oil tanker registered in Denmark that struck a sand bank on January 29, 1975 while entering the port of Leixões, Portugal, causing a major oil spill.Built in 1966, the tanker was owned by Maerskline Navigation Company, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller, and contracted by Shell Oil Company consisting of a crew of seventeen at the time of the accident. Seven of those seventeen crew members died during the explosion.Jakob Maersk was carrying 88,000 tons of crude oil from Kharg Island in Iran while entering the Port of Leixões in the northern part of Portugal to discharge the oil to the Sacor Refinery. Receiving aid from tug boats, the ship grounded on a sand bank, causing a huge explosion and subsequent fire that burned for days. The explosion broke the ship apart, spilling crude oil into the water.

The Leça Lighthouse (Portuguese: Farol de Leça), also known as the Farol de Boa Nova, is a lighthouse on the Atlantic coast located in Leça da Palmeira, in the municipality of Matosinhos in the Porto District of Portugal. It is the second tallest lighthouse in Portugal.

Porto Leixões Cruise Terminal is a purpose built terminal for ocean-going passenger ships built by the Port Authority of Douro, Porto, Portugal. The terminal was opened on the 23 July 2015.

Casa de Chá da Boa Nova (Boa Nova Tea House) is a restaurant designed by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. Situated on the Atlantic coast of Portugal, it is in the Leça da Palmeira parish in the municipality of Matosinhos in the Porto District. The building is close to the Tidal pools of Leça da Palmeira designed by the same architect, and the Leça Lighthouse, another local landmark. It has been classified as a national monument since 2011.

She Changes, known locally as anémona (the anemone), is a sculpture designed by artist Janet Echelman for the cities of Porto and Matosinhos, Northern Portugal. The installation consists of three steel poles, cables, a 20-ton steel ring and a net structure of varying densities and colors. The sculpture is Echelman's first permanent public art installation.

Fort of São Francisco do Queijo (Portuguese: Forte de São Francisco do Queijo), frequently shortened to Castle of the Cheese (Portuguese: Castelo do Queijo) is a fortification situated along the coast of the civil parish of Nevogilde in the northern Portuguese municipality of Porto.

Sea Life Porto is an aquarium located in Porto, Portugal. It opened on 15 June 2009 and is one of the Sea Life Centres in Europe, which are owned by Merlin Entertainments.
