Ross Valley

The Escalle region of (what is now) Larkspur, California takes its name from Jean Escalle, a 19th-century French immigrant and vintner whose name was given to many things in the area before it was incorporated into Larkspur, including the local railway station, and a vineyard, quarry, resort, and brickworks that he owned. The site of the buildings that remain from the original estate at (what is now) 771 Magnolia Avenue is a class H historic zone.

The College of Marin is a public community college in Marin County, California, with two campuses, one in Kentfield, and the second in Novato. It is the only institution operated by the Marin Community College District. College of Marin has been in operation since 1926. Each semester, about 10,000 students are enrolled in over 1,100 credit classes. Approximately 100 international students participate in College of Marin's International Student Program. Nearly 6,000 students attend the college's community education and community services classes. College of Marin is known for its theatre department, which has the highest transfer acceptance to Juilliard of any two-year college in the nation.

Marin Catholic High School (familiarly known as MC) is a Roman Catholic college preparatory school located in unincorporated Kentfield in Marin County, California. The school is owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco. It was founded in 1949. Annual tuition is $22,200.

Kentfield (formerly Ross Landing, Tamalpais, and Kent) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Marin County, California, United States, just north of San Francisco. Kentfield is located 2 miles (3 km) southwest of downtown San Rafael, at an elevation of 115 feet (35 m). The population was 6,808 at the 2020 census. Ross is a small incorporated town in Marin County, California, United States, just north of San Francisco. Ross is located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west-southwest of San Rafael, at an elevation of 36 feet (11 m). The population was 2,338 at the 2020 census. The town is bordered by San Rafael to the east, Kentfield to the south, San Anselmo to the north, and the Mount Tamalpais protected watershed to the west. Ross is named in honor of James Ross, who acquired Rancho Punta de Quentin in 1859.

The Marin Art and Garden Center is a botanical garden in Ross, California. The site is 11 acres and features gardens and historic buildings, including the Barn Theater, which is home to theater company Ross Valley Players. Admission to the gardens is free.

Larkspur is a city in Marin County, California, United States. Larkspur is located 3 miles (4.8 km) south of San Rafael, at an elevation of 43 feet (13 m). As of the 2020 Census, the city's population was 13,064. Larkspur's Police Department is shared with that of the neighboring Corte Madera and town of San Anselmo as the Central Marin Police Authority. Intersecting Larkspur's downtown is Madrone Canyon, a residential area amidst a redwood grove.

Larkspur Downtown Historic District, known also as Old Downtown Larkspur, is a historic district along Magnolia Avenue in downtown Larkspur, Marin County, California. The district covers the "Old Downtown" area, along Magnolia Avenue from the Lark Creek Inn at 234 Magnolia Avenue to the platform on the former railway, now a bicycle path. The avenue has been the commercial center of activity in Larkspur since the town was founded. In 1980, the Larkspur City Council designated it to be a local historic district and rezoned it as an overlay H Zone.The historic district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was asserted that the district is significant because it still has the ambiance of a small California town in the 1900–1930 era. Rancho Punta de Quentin was a 8,877-acre (35.92 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day Marin County, California given in 1840 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to John B.R. Cooper. The grant comprised not only the San Quentin peninsula, but also present-day Ross, Kentfield and part of San Anselmo.

Greenbrae is a small unincorporated community in Marin County, California.
