Larkspur Downtown Historic District, known also as Old Downtown Larkspur, is a historic district along Magnolia Avenue in downtown Larkspur, Marin County, California. The district covers the "Old Downtown" area, along Magnolia Avenue from the Lark Creek Inn at 234 Magnolia Avenue to the platform on the former railway, now a bicycle path. The avenue has been the commercial center of activity in Larkspur since the town was founded. In 1980, the Larkspur City Council designated it to be a local historic district and rezoned it as an overlay H Zone.The historic district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was asserted that the district is significant because it still has the ambiance of a small California town in the 1900–1930 era. Larkspur is a city in Marin County, California, United States. Larkspur is located 3 miles (4.8 km) south of San Rafael, at an elevation of 43 feet (13 m). As of the 2020 Census, the city's population was 13,064. Larkspur's Police Department is shared with that of the neighboring Corte Madera and town of San Anselmo as the Central Marin Police Authority. Intersecting Larkspur's downtown is Madrone Canyon, a residential area amidst a redwood grove.

Baltimore Park is a former unincorporated community now incorporated in Larkspur in Marin County, California. It lies at an elevation of 43 feet (13 m).

Redwood High School is a public secondary school located in the city of Larkspur, Marin County, California, approximately 11 miles north of San Francisco. Redwood High is part of the Tamalpais Union High School District (TUHSD). The school serves the cities of Belvedere, Corte Madera, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Larkspur, Ross, and Tiburon.The school houses the TUHSD headquarters.

Corte Madera (; Spanish for "Chop Wood") is an incorporated town in Marin County, California. Corte Madera is located 3.25 miles (5.2 km) south of San Rafael, at an elevation of 39 feet (12 m). The population was 10,222 at the 2020 census. The town was named after the Spanish imperative command "chop wood", as the area was famous for producing redwood tree lumber which was used in the construction of the city of San Francisco.

The Escalle region of (what is now) Larkspur, California takes its name from Jean Escalle, a 19th-century French immigrant and vintner whose name was given to many things in the area before it was incorporated into Larkspur, including the local railway station, and a vineyard, quarry, resort, and brickworks that he owned. The site of the buildings that remain from the original estate at (what is now) 771 Magnolia Avenue is a class H historic zone.

Rancho Corte Madera del Presidio was a 7,845-acre (31.75 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Marin County, California given in 1834 by Governor José Figueroa to John (Juan) Reed. Corte Madera del Presidio means the "lumber mill of the Presidio". The grant encompassed what is now southern Corte Madera, Mill Valley, the Tiburon Peninsula, and Strawberry Point. It reached from Point Tiburon to Larkspur Creek, then known as Arroyo Holon.

Richardson Island is a former island in San Francisco Bay, in northern California. While it was once surrounded by water and marsh (and appears as an island in maps surveyed in 1894), development of surrounding areas caused it to become completely surrounded by land by the mid-20th century. It is located in Marin County, in the city of Corte Madera.: 27  The United States Geological Survey (USGS) gave its elevation as 16 ft (4.9 m) in 1981. It is near the end of Corte Madera Creek, where it flows into San Francisco Bay.In 1885, it came into the possession of the Corte Madera Rancho del Presidio, one of the largest ranches in Marin County at the time. Its proprietors were sued by the United States in 1891, alleging that they had procured the island (among some 4,000 acres (1,600 ha) of land in the area) through a "false and fraudulent plot, alleged to have been made by field notes of an actual survey". In 1908, construction of railroad track for the Green Brae–Corte Madera cutoff involved workers cutting through the southeastern end of the island; by 1925, it had become part of the Keever estate. Henry Richardson, a member of the Amundsen polar expedition, was born on Richardson Island. By 1941, USGS maps show Richardson Island as completely connected to surrounding land; while the label "Richardson Island" was still shown at the location on a 1954 USGS map, by that point it was no longer an island.In 1950, the city of Corte Madera engaged in an "annexation war" with neighboring Larkspur; Richardson Island was one of several pieces of land Corte Madera attempted to annex. Of four tracts, one was approved by the city to be annexed by ordinance—the "Fifer-Moore addition", located on Richardson Island. Larkspur had previously attempted to block annexation of the island by "cutting it off" from Corte Madera. By 2009, the area previously occupied by Richardson Island was part of Corte Madera, and primarily zoned for mixed-use commercial, mixed-use gateway area, and public and semi-public facilities.: 27  It was classified under the "Fifer Avenue/Tamal Vista" community plan study area.: 43 

Greenbrae is a small unincorporated community in Marin County, California. It is located 1.5 miles (2 km) south-southeast of downtown San Rafael, at an elevation of 33 feet (10 m), located adjacent to U.S. Route 101 at the opening of the Ross Valley. Part of Greenbrae is an unincorporated community of the county while the remaining area is inside the city limits of Larkspur. The ZIP code is 94904, and is shared with the neighboring Census-designated place (CDP) of Kentfield. The community is in area codes 415 and 628.

Marin Catholic High School (familiarly known as MC) is a Roman Catholic college preparatory school located in unincorporated Kentfield in Marin County, California. The school is owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco. It was founded in 1949. Annual tuition is $22,200.

Ross Valley is a valley in Marin County, California. The city of Ross in addition to all or portions of San Anselmo, Fairfax, Kentfield, and San Rafael are located in the valley. Mount Tamalpais is to the west, the Red Hills to the North and San Francisco Bay to the East.
