Whitworth railway station

Whitworth is a town and civil parish in Rossendale, Lancashire, England, amongst the foothills of the Pennines between Bacup, to the north, and Rochdale, to the south. It had a population of 7,500 at the 2011 Census.Whitworth spans the Whitworth Valley, a 7 square miles (18.1 km2) area consisting of Healey, Broadley, Whitworth, Facit and Shawforth, linked by the A671 road. Several smaller hamlets are now part of Whitworth, such as Cowm Top, which was removed to make way for Cowm Reservoir.Whitworth is twinned with Kandel, Germany.

Healey Dell Viaduct is a viaduct situated in Healey Dell Nature Reserve in the Spodden Valley, on the outskirts of Rochdale in Greater Manchester, England. It is 2.5 mi (4.0 km) from Whitworth, Lancashire. It was built in 1867 and carried the Rochdale to Bacup Railway Line, opening to passengers on 1 November 1870. It operated until 1949, and carried coal trains until into the 1960s.The viaduct was built from locally quarried gritstone and only a single track wide. It is 105 ft (32 m) high above the river, with eight arches, each with a 30 ft (9.1 m) span.In November 1984, the viaduct was Grade II listed.Today it carries the National Cycle Network, Regional Network Route 92 which joins National Route 66.Healey Dell is on the Rochdale Way and the Pennine Bridleway passes the northern end.

Historically part of Lancashire, it includes Shawclough, Syke and Nook Farm and the rest of the land known as Healey on the right side of Whitworth Road (A671) after Gale Street up to Healey Corner (Whitworth/Rochdale boundary). The population of this Rochdale ward at the 2011 census was 10,411.

The summit is on the border of Greater Manchester and Lancashire and stands 400 m (1,312 ft) above sea level, making it one of the highest points in Rochdale and Greater Manchester. It forms part of the South Pennines, lying within the historic county boundaries of Lancashire.

Shawclough is a mainly residential area north of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England. Its boundaries are roughly Whitworth Road, Shawclough Road, and Healey Corner. Housing is mixed but predominantly owned semi-detached and detached 3-4 bedroom houses. House building over the past 30 years has significantly reduced green spaces, though Healey Dell and Falinge Park are notable areas within Shawclough. Industry in the area is low level, though, at one time, manufacturing did take place at the Turner Brothers Asbestos Company in the near vicinity. Shawclough is part of the Healey parish district of Rochdale.

It is part of the Rossendale and Darwen constituency, with Jake Berry having been the Member of Parliament since 2010.

Nook Farm (sometimes called Syke Estate) is an estate of council houses situated within the area of Syke, part of Rochdale, in Greater Manchester, England. It is named after the farm that used to occupy the area until the land was sold to Rochdale Council and building commenced in the early 20th century. Many of the roads on Nook Farm Estate begin with N i.e. Newark Road, Norton Road, Newlands Avenue, Netley Avenue and Nantwich Avenue. Since the 1980s many of the houses have been sold to occupiers under Right To Buy legislation and are now privately owned.

The school has been recognised as an Investor in People and has gained the International School Award, as well as Artsmark Gold, Sportsmark Gold and the Healthy Schools status. In 2010 Ofsted inspection it was found to be "a good school where pupils rise to the high expectations of the headteacher and staff".
