China Grove Township, Rowan County, North Carolina

China Grove is a town in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 4,434 at the 2020 census. The town is located just north of Landis and south of Salisbury. It was one of the first towns in the United States to have Rural Free Mail Delivery. The town was named for a grove of chinaberry trees planted near the depot.

China Grove Roller Mill is a historic roller mill building located at China Grove, Rowan County, North Carolina. It was built in 1903, and is a three-story, rectangular brick building, with several later additions. It retains the intact original milling machinery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Eastover is a historic estate located at Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina. The mansion was designed by architect Louis H. Asbury (1877-1975) in 1934, and built between 1935 and 1936. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, Tudor Revival style brick dwelling with decorative half-timbering with stucco fields and a dull red terra cotta tile roof. Other contributing resources are the estate grounds, entrance gate (c. 1935), and one-story frame American Craftsman-style well-house.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

John Stigerwalt House is a historic home located near Bostian Heights, Rowan County, North Carolina. It was built in 1811, and is a two-story, brick dwelling associated with the German settlement of piedmont North Carolina. It features bold diamond-pattern brickwork and a handsome clock/sundial on the front elevation. Also on the property are the contributing frame smokehouse, frame corn crib, (c. 1920), and the remains of a granite well base.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Shuping's Mill Complex was a historic grist mill complex located near Faith, Rowan County, North Carolina. The complex included a two-story frame dwelling, flour and corn mill building, cotton gin house (1895), and two other contributing buildings. The mill was built in 1900, and was a 2 1/2-story frame building sheathed in weatherboard and on a stone foundation. It was destroyed in 1986 when a car crash sparked a fire. The original boiler still remains on the property. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

It was originally a vast territory with unlimited western boundaries, but its size was reduced to 524 square miles (1,360 km2) after several counties were formed from Rowan County in the 18th and 19th centuries. As of the 2020 census, its population was 146,875. Its county seat, Salisbury, is the oldest continuously populated European-American town in the western half of North Carolina. Rowan County is located northeast of Charlotte, and is considered part of the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia, NC-SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.
