The Davis Island Lock and Dam Site on the Ohio river in Avalon, Pennsylvania, is the site of the former Davis Island lock that was completed in 1885. The lock and dam existed from 1878 to 1922, designed by William Emery Merrill and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Davis Island Lock and Dam was the first dam that was constructed on the Ohio River. It officially opened on October 7, 1885, with a large dedication ceremony. The Davis Island Dam was the largest Chanoine dam built in the 19th century, and one of the first concrete structures built by the Army Corps of Engineers. It was the first of 51 Chanoine type dams that were built by the Corps of Engineers between 1878 and 1929. The dam was dismantled in 1922, when it was replaced by the Emsworth Locks and Dam less than a mile downstream of the original site. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1980 and designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1985.It is now owned by the West View Water Authority and is used primarily to pump water from the Ohio River, which then goes on to be purified and is used by the surrounding communities for drinking.

The McKees Rocks Bridge is a steel trussed through arch bridge which carries the Blue Belt, Pittsburgh's innermost beltline, across the Ohio River at Brighton Heights and McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, west of the city. At 7,293 feet (2,223 m) long, it is the longest bridge in Allegheny County.Built in 1931, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The John Morrow Elementary School (also known as Morrow Elementary School and Pittsburgh Morrow PreK-5) located at 1611 Davis Avenue in the Brighton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1895 (with additions in 1922 and later). The Norwood Incline was a funicular railway located just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It operated from 1901 to 1923 between its lower station on Island Avenue, McKees Rocks, and its upper station in Norwood Place, Stowe Township. Originally free to ride, it got the nickname "Penny Incline" after it started charging a one-cent fare. Its two narrow-gauge tracks were formed by only three rails, the middle rail being shared by both tracks, except at mid-slope where the tracks separated to allow the upbound and downbound cars to pass each other.

Sto-Rox School District encompasses approximately 3 square miles (7.8 km2). According to 2000 federal census data, it serves a resident population of 13,330 people. By 2010, the district's population declined to 12,468 people. In 2009, Sto-Rox School District residents' per capita income was $15,833, while the median family income was $33,343 a year. In the Commonwealth, the median family income was $49,501 and the United States median family income was $49,445, in 2010. By 2013, the median household income in the United States rose to $52,100.As of 2006, the school districts' official colors changed from Kelly green and white to hunter green and white. Stowe Township is a township in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,362 at the 2010 census.It is located in the Sto-Rox School District, which serves both Stowe Township and the neighboring borough of McKees Rocks. All locations in Stowe Township have McKees Rocks addresses. Stowe Township has partnered with the Allegheny Together organization to revitalize its main business district on Broadway Avenue. The area is served by Port Authority bus routes 21, 22, and 24.

McKees Rocks, also known as "The Rocks", is a borough in Allegheny County in Western Pennsylvania, United States, along the south bank of the Ohio River. Part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, its population was 5,920 at the time of the 2020 census.The borough is within the Sto-Rox School District, which serves McKees Rocks and neighboring Stowe Township. The local high school is Sto-Rox High School. The Pittsburgh, Allegheny and McKees Rocks Railroad is located in an area along the river known as the "Bottoms". The McKees Rocks Bridge, which carries traffic between McKees Rocks and Pittsburgh, is the longest bridge in Allegheny County, at 7,293 feet (2,223 m). McKees Rocks has one of the largest Indian mounds in the state, built by the Adena and Hopewell peoples a thousand years before Europeans entered the area. In the past, the city was known for its extensive iron and steel interests. There were large railroad machine shops and manufacturers of locomotives and freight and passenger cars. Other factories produced springs, enamel ware, lumber, wall materials, plaster, nuts and bolts, malleable castings, chains and forgings, tin ware, concrete, and cigars. McKees Rocks is also known as the birthplace of former Ohio Governor John Kasich and late television salesperson Billy Mays.

The Fleming Park Bridge is a through truss bridge which spans the back channel of the Ohio River, between Neville Island and Stowe Township, PA. Although the Ohio River's back channel is only 590 feet wide, roughly 660 feet of this newer bridge was erected over water due to the unique 65 degree angle of the structure's trajectory. The bridge was closed for 11 months between 2018 and 2019 in order to complete a $13 million rehabilitation project.

State Correctional Institution – Pittsburgh (historically known as the "Western Penitentiary," "Western Pen," and "The Wall") was a low-to-medium security correctional institution, operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, located about five miles west of Downtown Pittsburgh and within city limits. The facility is on the banks of the Ohio River, and is located on 21 acres of land. (12 acres within the perimeter fence.) It was the first prison west of the Atlantic Plain as well as a major Civil War prison in 1863–1864. On January 26, 2017, Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Wolf announced the closing of this facility.
