Badminton House

St Michael and All Angels is a Grade I listed church on the estate of the Duke of Beaufort in the village of Great Badminton, Gloucestershire, England. Attached to the Duke of Beaufort's residence, Badminton House, it is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Gloucester. Although within the grounds of the Badminton Estate, the church is owned, and its upkeep met, by the Badminton's Parochial Church Council, rather than the Ducal estate. There is a smaller church of the same name in the neighbouring hamlet of Little Badminton.

Badminton railway station is a closed railway station in Gloucestershire, England on the line between Wootton Bassett to the east, and Patchway and Filton to the west. It served the villages of Badminton and Acton Turville. The station was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1903 and became part of British Railways on 1 January 1948. The station was closed in 1968. The station buildings and sections of platforms still stand derelict with trains passing through the site on the South Wales Main Line.

Acton Turville consists of a cluster of households across 1,009 acres, with a total population of 370 people. Acton Turville is also listed as "Achetone" in the Domesday Book.According to John Marius in 1870, From the imperial gazetteer of England and Wales - Acton Turville is: "a parish in Chipping Sodbury district, Gloucester; near the Fosse way and under the Cotswold Hills. It lies 5.5 miles east of Chipping Sodbury, and 7.5 miles east of Yate railway station".

Chipping Sodbury Tunnel is a railway tunnel that is situated on the South Wales Main Line in England. It runs under the Cotswold Hills for 4444 yards, approximately 2+1⁄2 miles (4.0 km) west of Badminton railway station and Chipping Sodbury Yard. The tunnel was built between 1897 and 1902; it was amongst the last of the major railway tunnels to be constructed in Britain. Built to hide the line from the nearby Badminton House, a total of six crenellated ventilation shafts are present. The tunnel was built with a mess room at the mid piont so that maintenance crews could remain in the tunnel for the whole working day/ night. Due the tunnel passing through an underground aquifer, it has been particularly prone to flooding and associated closures. It was also a secondary target for Luftwaffe bombing during the Second World War. Numerous remedial works and improvements have been made to the tunnel throughout its service life. Such works have largely been centred around improving its drainage and other measures to reduce the occurrence of flood-related closures. A new high-capacity drainage system was installed during the 2010s. In the same decade, the tunnel was temporarily closed as part of the modernisation of the Great Western main line, for which overhead electrification equipment was installed throughout its length, enabling electric traction to traverse the tunnel.

Swangrove is a Grade I listed country house in Hawkesbury, South Gloucestershire, England. The listing includes Swangrove House, its garden walls, four corner pavilions, and gate piers. It was built in 1703 by William Killigrew of Bath.

It is on the A46, which runs from Bath, to Nailsworth and Stroud, just south of another, slightly smaller hamlet, Dunkirk. Previously, Petty France and Dunkirk were known as road accident hotspots. The proportion of fatal and serious accidents was 46%, significantly higher than the average for South Gloucestershire as a whole, which is 12%. 13 accidents occurred between 1 January 1998 and 31 December 2001, including 2 fatal accidents, four were serious and seven were slight., as a result of this the speed through the two hamlets was reduced to 40 MPH. Badminton and Hawkesbury Upton are also nearby. The Manor House in Petty France was built in 1812 for Robert Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool, prime minister from 1812 to 1827. The house has seen the likes of Lord Wellington, and has been in the ownership of the poet Wordsworth's family, Lord and Lady Apsley and the Duke of Beaufort; today it is a hotel.

The hamlet is on an important T-junction where the A46 (which goes from Bath to Nailsworth and Stroud) meets the A433 (which goes towards Tetbury and Cirencester). Dunkirk in Hawkesbury parish should not be confused with Dunkirk near Nailsworth, also on the A46 in Gloucestershire, and the site of Dunkirk Mill.The hamlet of Petty France is directly to the south. Luckington is a village and civil parish in the southern Cotswolds, in north-west Wiltshire, England, about 6+1⁄2 miles (10 km) west of Malmesbury. The village is on the B4040 road linking Malmesbury and Chipping Sodbury. The parish is on the county border with Gloucestershire and includes the village of Alderton and the hamlet of Brook End.
