The Centre-Sud is a neighbourhood located in the easternmost edge of the Ville-Marie borough of the city of Montreal. Home to Montreal's Gay Village and to the Sainte-Marie area, the Centre-Sud has long been seen as one of the city's most complex and troubled neighbourhoods.Having held a notorious reputation for poverty and prostitution for decades, particularly on Rue Ontario and Rue Dufresne, gentrification has changed the neighbourhood considerably in recent years.

Papineau Avenue (officially in French: avenue Papineau) is the longest north–south street in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The part of the street between Henri Bourassa Boulevard and Quebec Autoroute 40 is the Montreal portion of Quebec Autoroute 19, commonly referred to as Autoroute Papineau. North of Henri Bourassa Boulevard, it becomes a true autoroute before crossing the Rivière des Prairies on the Papineau-Leblanc Bridge. In the south, the avenue ends at Notre-Dame Street.It traverses the boroughs of Ville-Marie, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, Villeray-St-Michel-Parc-Extension and Ahuntsic-Cartierville. The street is named after Joseph Papineau, Lower Canadian politician and father of Louis-Joseph Papineau, the leader of the reformist Patriote movement and belligerent in the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837.

Le Stud, or Bar Le Stud, is a gay bar in Montreal's Gay Village, in Quebec, Canada. Established in 1996, the bar caters to bears and the leather subculture. The business has since been criticized for not allowing women in the past, but no longer has such a policy following a discrimination complaint that was filed in 2007.

The Montreal Street Circuit is a temporary street circuit in Montreal, Canada. It is located in the southeast portion of the downtown area, with its main straight on René Lévesque Boulevard.

Maison Radio-Canada (English: CBC House) is the broadcast headquarters, studios and master control for all French-language radio and television services of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (known in French as Société Radio-Canada/SRC) including its flagship station CBFT-DT. It is also the main studio for Montreal's local English-language CBC services (CBMT-DT, CBME-FM, and CBM-FM) and the headquarters of Radio Canada International, the CBC's digital international broadcasting service. The street address of Maison Radio-Canada is 1400 René Lévesque Boulevard East, named for former premier René Lévesque who was once a reporter and commentator for the CBC. The building is situated near the studios of CTV (CFCF-DT), Noovo (CFJP-DT), RDS, RDS Info, MétéoMédia, LCN, and TVA (CFTM-DT) which are at the intersection of Papineau Avenue. The analogous facility for CBC's English-language networks is the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto. CBC's corporate headquarters for both languages are in Ottawa at the CBC Ottawa Broadcast Centre.

Beaudry is a Montreal Metro station in the borough of Ville-Marie, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and serves the Green Line. It is in Montreal's Gay Village, part of the Centre-Sud district. Although part of the original network of the Metro, it opened two months after the rest of the network, on December 21, 1966.

Gay Village (often simply known as "the Village"; French: Le Village gai or simply Le Village) is a neighbourhood delineated by Saint Catherine Street East and Atateken Street in the Ville-Marie borough of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The entire Village is bordered approximately by Saint Hubert Street to the west, De Lorimier Avenue to the east, Sherbrooke Street to the north and René Lévesque Boulevard to the south, making it the largest gay village in North America in terms of area. It is served by the Beaudry and Papineau metro stations. Originally a poor working-class area, the Centre-Sud neighbourhood became increasingly attractive to the gay and lesbian community after the migration of many LGBT businesses from other parts of the city. The area has become considerably gentrified, due in part to significant investment from the various levels of all governments. All three levels of government are aggressively promoting Montreal's gay life as a tourist attraction. In recognition of the Village's importance to the city, the Ville-Marie borough has displayed a rainbow flag in its council chambers and redecorated the entrance to the Beaudry Metro station with rainbow pillars. The Village is specifically marked on official city maps as "Le Village".

The Ouimetoscope was the first Canadian theatre dedicated exclusively to showing movies.Inaugurated on 1 January 1906 at the corner of Saint Catherine and Montcalm Streets, in Montreal, Canada from a converted cabaret with 500 seats and a small screen, it was demolished to be replaced with a luxurious 1,200 seat movie palace that featured air conditioning.For eighteen years, the Ouimetoscope was the venue for French and American cinema supplemented with local production, accompanied by live musicians.

The Sainte-Marie neighbourhood is located in the eastern edge of the Centre-Sud in the borough of Ville-Marie. The Jacques Cartier Bridge and Maison Radio-Canada overlook the neighbourhood.
