Balwest (Cornish: Bal West, meaning Western mine) is a hamlet in the civil parish of Germoe in west Cornwall, England, in the United Kingdom.The hamlet is on the southern edge of a former mining area, part of a geological formation known as the Tregonning-Godolphin Granite (one of five granite batholiths in Cornwall) which was formerly an important source of tin and copper ore (see also Geology of Cornwall). A Wesleyan Methodist chapel was opened at Balwest in 1829 for miners. The building is Grade II listed.

Great Work Mine was a Cornish mine between Godolphin hill and Tregonning Hill and is in the hamlet of Great Work on Bal Lane. Great Work is notable for its unusual chimney stack with the upper brick-work in two stages. The remaining ruin of the mine sits 400 ft above sea level, and is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape. The site is owned by the National Trust and forms part of the Godolphin Estate along with Godolphin House.

Germoe (Cornish: Germogh) is a village and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Germoe village, the parish's main settlement and church town, is about five miles (8 km) west of Helston and seven miles (11.3 km) east of Penzance. The A394 Penzance to Helston road runs along the southern border of the parish. Other settlements in the parish include Balwest, Boscreege and Tresowes Green. The parish is named after Saint Germocus, one of the companions of Saint Breage. According to legend Germoc was a king in Ireland whose feast day is 6 May. Historically, the largest landowners in the parish were the Godolphin family (the Dukes of Leeds).Germoe parish is bounded to the north, east and south by Breage parish and to the west by St Hilary parish. The population was 508 in the 2001 census. This had increased to 549 at the 2011 Census. The parish is now rural in character but was once associated with mining; to the north it borders the geological formation known as the Tregonning-Godolphin Granite (one of five granite batholiths in Cornwall) and the area was formerly an important source of tin and copper ore (see Geology of Cornwall). Tregonning Hill is the site of the Germoe war memorial.

Tregonning Hill is the westerly of two granite hills overlooking Mount's Bay in west Cornwall, United Kingdom, the other being Godolphin Hill. They are approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) west of the town of Helston. The Plymouth chemist William Cookworthy mixed china stone with kaolin, mined from the hill to make Plymouth porcelain in 1768; which was the first time hard-paste porcelain was made in Britain. Part of the hill is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and at the date of notification (1994) was the only known site of western rustwort (Marsupella profunda) in Great Britain.

Pengersick Castle is a fortified manor house located between the villages of Germoe and Praa Sands in Cornwall, England. The tower house, which is in the parish of Breage, is a Grade I listed building. Parts of the building date from the early 16th century.

Ashton (Cornish: Trevonnen) is a village in the civil parish of Breage, west Cornwall, England, UK at OS grid ref SW604286. It is on the A394 Penzance – Helston road one mile north-east of Praa Sands.A Mission Church designed by James Piers St Aubyn was dedicated by George Wilkinson (Bishop of Truro) on 11 March 1884. Costing between £600 and £700, it is built in the Gothic early-English style on a site donated by the Duke of Leeds. Ashton has a pub called the Lion and Lamb and in the past had a football team. Ashton is also the name of places in the parishes of Poundstock, St Dominick and St Winnow. The meaning of Ashton is "ash-tree farm".

Rinsey Croft is a hamlet in southwest Cornwall, England. It is located within the civil parish of Breage, 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the village of the same name.The nearby hamlet of Rinsey is located 1 km (0.62 mi) to the southwest.

The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape is a World Heritage Site which includes select mining landscapes in Cornwall and West Devon in the south west of England. The site was added to the World Heritage List during the 30th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Vilnius, July 2006. Following plans in 2011 to restart mining at South Crofty, and to build a supermarket at Hayle Harbour, the World Heritage Committee drafted a decision in 2014 to put the site on the List of World Heritage in Danger, but this was rejected at the 38th Committee Session at Doha, Qatar (July 2014), in favour of a follow-up Reactive Monitoring Mission.

The Godolphin Estate is a National Trust property situated in Godolphin Cross, 7 km (4.3 mi) north-west of Helston in Cornwall, United Kingdom. The house is a Grade I listed building.

Praa Sands (Cornish: Poll an Wragh = Salt Pool of the Wrass), (formerly Prah Sands) commonly pronounced pray or prah, is a white-sand beach and coastal village in Cornwall, England. It is in the parish of Breage and lies off the A394 road between Helston and Penzance. Formerly serving the local mining industry, it is now mostly a tourist-orientated area. The beach is popular with surfers and walkers. Towards the south eastern end of the beach is a WW2 Type 24 pillbox. Originally this was constructed on top of the cliffs but it has been subjected to coastal erosion and has settled down onto the beach.

Rinsey (Cornish: Rynnji) is a hamlet in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is located off the main A394 road between Helston and Penzance in the civil parish of Breage. The nearby hamlet of Rinsey Croft is located 1 km to the north-east. The nearby cliffs and beach are owned and managed by the National Trust and part of Rinsey East Cliff is designated as the Porthcew Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its geological interest. The South West Coast Path passes through the property. Rinsey lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The name Rinsey is an anglicisation of the Cornish language Rynnji, which contains the words rynn 'point of land' (as in Penryn), and chi 'house'.

Trescowe (Cornish: Treskaw) is a hamlet north of Germoe, in the civil parish of Breage, in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The name Trescowe is an anglicisation of the Cornish language Treskaw, which contains the words tre, meaning 'farm' or 'settlement', and skaw, meaning 'elder trees'.
