Spout Springs formerly produced lumber and naval stores.The area population has increased greatly in the 21st century due to the expansion of nearby Ft. Bragg.

Overhills is an unincorporated community located in the Johnsonville Township of Harnett County, North Carolina, United States, near the Cumberland County town of Spring Lake. It is a part of the Dunn Micropolitan Area, which is also a part of the greater Raleigh–Durham–Cary Combined Statistical Area (CSA) as defined by the United States Census Bureau. The community was originally a 17,500-acre (7,100 ha) estate owned by the Percy Rockefeller family but later acquired by the federal government and is now mostly located inside nearby Fort Bragg (Powell 1968, p. 87). A Donald Ross-designed golf course was added to the estate in two separate projects and is also now located inside Fort Bragg.

Geographically, Barbecue Township occupies 59.65 square miles (154.5 km2) in southwestern Harnett County. There are no incorporated municipalities located in Barbecue Township, however, there are several unincorporated communities located here, including the communities of Barbecue, Olivia and Pineview.

Lemon Springs is an unincorporated community in southern Lee County, North Carolina, United States. It lies south of Sanford, and southeast of Tramway. The community is centered on The Fastop Convenience store, now known as Eagles when the long-standing Fastop was sold, the business shares a building with the Fastop Grill. The Greenwood Elementary School is the only one in the Lemon Springs community, before there were closer Middle and High schools, Greenwood was for grades K-12. The Lemon Springs area is only approximately one mile across, but features a volunteer fire department, a post office, a Methodist Church, a Baptist Church, an Apostolic Church, a quarry, and a Gas Station. Upper Little River, a tributary of the Cape Fear River, rises in a pond about 1 mile east of Lemon Springs.

It was developed between 1875 and 1925 and includes notable examples of Late Victorian and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include the Cameron Presbyterian Church (c. 1879), Murdock McKeithen House (c. 1885), John C. Muse House (c. 1878), McLean House (c. 1920), McFadyen House (c. 1878), Rodwell House (c. 1890s), Muse Brothers Store (c. 1880s), McKeithen Store (c. 1880s), Greenwood Inn (c. 1874), Cameron Methodist Church (c. 1886), L. B. McKeithen House (1923), Borst House (c. 1883), Parker House (c. 1918), and Turner-McPerson House (c. 1867, 1910s).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

John Evander Phillips House is a historic home located near Cameron, Moore County, North Carolina. It was built in 1893, and is a two-story, cruciform plan, frame farmhouse with Late Victorian style decorative elements. The front facade features wraparound porch. A breezeway at the rear of the dwelling, enclosed before 1937, joins the main block to a late 18th-century kitchen house. Also on the property is a contributing brick cider house (c. 1893).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
