Manuden is a village and civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. It is located around 3+1⁄2 miles (6 km) north of Bishop's Stortford, in the neighbouring county of Hertfordshire, and around 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Saffron Walden. The village has its own parish council.Manuden is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as one of the settlements within Clavering hundred. Part of Manuden is designated as a conservation area, with several listed buildings in and around the village.The local church is St Mary the Virgin. A tablet within the church commemorates the Jacobean statesman and diplomat William Wade, who spent his retirement at Battles Hall in the village, and is buried in the church.There is a primary school in the village. In 2010, Manuden County Primary School topped the league table for English schools at KS2 with all pupils attaining level 5 in both English and maths.There are several active village organisations, including a local history society, junior football club and a cricket club.

The village is served by Stansted Mountfitchet railway station. Stansted Mountfitchet is situated in north-west Essex near the Hertfordshire border and 3 miles (5 km) north of Bishop's Stortford. Stansted Airport is 2 miles (3 km) from the village. The village has three primary schools (Bentfield Primary School, St Mary's (C of E) Primary School and Magna Carta Primary Academy) and one high school which was renamed the Forest Hall School in September, 2013.

Bishop's Stortford is a historic market town in the London Commuter Belt. Located on the border of Hertfordshire and Essex, just west of the M11 motorway and Stansted Airport, it is 22 miles north-east of Central London and 34 minutes away by rail from London Liverpool Street. Waytemore Castle is a ruined castle in the town of Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire, England. The remains are a Grade I listed structure.This began as a motte and bailey castle in the time of William the Conqueror. A rectangular great tower was added on the motte in the 12th century. It was improved in the 13th century during the reign of King John and a licence to crenellate was granted in the mid-14th century. It was slighted after the Civil War. In the 17th century it was used as a prison. Only earthworks, the large motte and foundations of a square tower can now be seen.

Birchwood High School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England. The school was converted to academy status in February 2012. It used to be a community school under the direct control of Hertfordshire County Council. The school continues to coordinate with the council for admissions. Birchwood High School offers General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSEs) and Business and Technology Education Council (BTECs) as courses of study for pupils, with A Levels offered in the sixth form. The school has been recognised by The Good Schools Guide for the standard of its maths education in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

Cricketfield Lane is a cricket ground in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. The earliest recorded match on the ground was in 1862 between Bishop's Stortford and an All-England Eleven. In 1895 Hertfordshire played their first Minor Counties Championship match on the ground, which came against Norfolk. From 1895 to the present day, the ground has played host to 54 Minor Counties Championship matches and 6 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches.The ground has hosted a single first-class match, which came in 1872 when a United South of England Eleven played a United North of England Eleven.The first List-A match played on the ground came in the 1991 NatWest Trophy between Hertfordshire and Derbyshire. The second and final List-A match played at the ground was between Hertfordshire and Ireland in the 2004 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy.The Essex Second XI has also used the ground for a number of matches. In local domestic cricket, Cricket Field Lane is the home ground of Bishop's Stortford Cricket Club who play in the Home Counties Premier Cricket League.

Stansted Mountfitchet railway station is on the West Anglia Main Line serving the village of Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex, England. It is 33 miles 28 chains (53.7 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Bishop's Stortford and Elsenham on the main line; Stansted Airport station follows on the airport branch. Its three-letter station code is SST. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Greater Anglia. The station, which was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in 1845, was originally known simply as Stansted. It was renamed to its current name in 1990 to avoid potential confusion with the forthcoming station at Stansted Airport, although a local resident, Joseph J. Green, had requested such a name change as early as 1890.The station building is the original from 1845. The station features a ticket office and passenger information screens as well as the 'flip clock' from the Network Southeast period on the London bound platform. Both platforms were extended to accommodate 12-coach trains in 2011.
