Campus Geesseknäppchen is a campus in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg, that is shared by a number of academic institutions. The campus is located in the southwest of the city, just to the north of the terminus of the A4 motorway. It is predominantly in the quarter of Hollerich, although the western part (including the Conservatoire) lies in Merl. Shaped roughly like a right triangle, the campus measures 800 metres (880 yards) east-west along the hypotenuse, and 520 metres (570 yards) north-south at its maximum. Lycée Michel Rodange, abbreviated to LMRL, is a high school in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It is located on Campus Geesseknäppchen, along with several other educational institutions, most of which, including Lycée Michel Rodange, is in the quarter of Hollerich, in the south-west of the city.It was founded by law on 5 August 1968 as the 'Nouveau Lycée de Luxembourg' (English: Luxembourg New School), but was renamed by Grand Ducal decree on 19 January 1970 to its current name, after Michel Rodange, the author of Luxembourg's national epic, Rénert the Fox. Rodange counts Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission as its alumnus.

Parc Merl (Luxemburgish Märeler Park) is an urban park in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. Despite its name, the park is not located in the quarter of Merl, but in Hollerich. It is bordered by avenue du 10 Septembre (N5) to the north-west, boulevard Pierre Dupong to the south-west, rue de Bragance to the south-east, and avenue Guillaume to the north-east.

The Lycée Aline Mayrisch is a high school in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It is located on Campus Geesseknäppchen, along with several other educational institutions, most of which, including the Lycée Aline Mayrisch, is in the quarter of Hollerich, in the south-west of the city.It is named after Aline Mayrisch: a famous women's rights campaigner, socialite, and philanthropist, President of the Luxembourgian Red Cross, and wife of industrialist Émile Mayrisch.

The Luxembourg School of Business (LSB) is the only accredited graduate business school in Luxembourg. LSB offers a part-time Master in Business Administration ("weekend MBA"), a full-time Master in Management, as well as specialized programs for individuals companies. Founded in 2014, it is the first business school in Luxembourg which had to meet the requirements of the new legal framework put in place in 2016, focused on raising the quality standards. LSB is accredited by the Luxembourg Ministry of Higher Education and Research via a ministerial decree dated as of 29 August 2017 for the duration of five years.Also accredited as a training provider inside the Lifelong Learning initiative of the L'Institut national pour le développement de la formation professionnelle continue of Luxembourg. LSB holds Erasmus accreditation for the period of 2021 – 2027.

The Conservatoire de Luxembourg is a conservatoire in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. The conservatoire was founded in 1906, after a private donation made possible its establishment, which had been mandated under a Grand Ducal decree issued in 1904. The conservatoire currently has over 2,600 students, from 60 countries, studying over 5,000 courses in total.It is located on Campus Geesseknäppchen, along with several other educational institutions; most of the campus lies in Hollerich, but the western part, in which the Conservatoire is located, is in Merl quarter.The need for a new building emerged in the 1970s as a result of increasing demand. The foundation stone for the building on rue Charles Martel was laid on 19 June 1981, leading to the building's inauguration in 1984. There is a Westenfelder organ in the conservatoire's grand auditorium, the first concert hall organ in Luxembourg. The auditorium's excellent acoustics have attracted a wide range of performing artists including Bernard Haitink, Mstislav Rostropovich, Martha Argerich, Felicity Lott and Lazar Berman.The conservatoire also houses a museum of early instruments, a specialist library, a music library and a large archive of musical works.

The 1952 UCI Road World Championships was the 23rd edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August 1952 in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. The race for amateurs was ridden on Saturday, August 23. It was 175 kilometres long (10 laps) and was decided in a sprint of a group of 17 riders, which ended in a big confusion. Dutchman Piet van den Brekel and Italian Luciano Ciancola crossed the finish line almost at the same time. Even the finish photo could not show a clear difference. First, Van den Brekel received the flowers, but moments later the Italian was declared world champion. Van den Brekel was disqualified in the evening because he had accepted a spectator's spare bike on the way. André Noyelle thus came second and Luxembourger Roger Ludwig third The professional road race was held on Sunday, August 24. 48 riders from nine countries participated. The race was 280 kilometres long and covered 16 laps of 17.5 kilometres. The race was surprisingly won by German outsider Heinz Müller who thus became the first German world champion among professional cyclists. In the same period, the 1952 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Parc des Princes in Paris, France.

Hollerich-Bonnevoie (German: Hollerich-Bonneweg) was the legal name of a part, formally section (German: Sektion), of the then-commune of Hollerich, in southern Luxembourg. It covered the neighbourhoods of Hollerich, Bonnevoie, and Gare, which formed the urbanised part of the commune, separated from Luxembourg City by the Pétrusse. City status was conferred upon Hollerich-Bonnevoie on 7 April 1914. The city, with the rest of the commune, merged into Luxembourg City on 26 March 1920, when the city status lapsed.

Belair (Luxembourgish pronunciation: [bæˈlɛːɐ̯] ; formerly Neumerl) is a quarter in western Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. From 1931 to 2021, Belair was the location of Luxembourg's national stadium, rebuilt in 1990, the Stade Josy Barthel, named after Luxembourg's only Olympic gold medal winner. In September 2021, it was officially replaced by the newly built Stade de Luxembourg and is due to be demolished and replaced with a new mixed use neighbourhood named "Wunnquartier Stade".Luxembourg City's main fire station and the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg hospital are based within Belair.As of 31 December 2022, Belair has a population of 12,613 inhabitants.

The Luxembourg plateau is a large Early Jurassic sandstone plateau in south-central Luxembourg. Lying mostly between 300 metres (980 ft) and 400 metres (1,300 ft), it is the dominant part of the Gutland region.The mid-Alzette runs through the Luxembourg plateau, whilst the Black Ernz, White Ernz, Mamer, and Syre also have their sources on the Luxembourg plateau. The highest point is in the Grünewald, at 437 metres (1,434 ft). In terms of land use, the plateau is a patchwork of forests and farmland. Some of Luxembourg's most fertile soil is on the plateau, but other economic priorities and environmental pressure contribute to agriculture forming only a very small part of economic activity on the plateau. The plateau is the most populous sub-region of Luxembourg, being inhabited by over 170,000 people. Economically and socially, Luxembourg City dominates the plateau, with almost half of the population of the large sub-region. Other towns on the plateau include Bascharage, Bertrange, Howald, Mamer, and Strassen, all of which have populations in excess of 4,000 people. The economy of the region is focused on administration, financial services, tourism, and high tech industry.

Hollerich (Luxembourgish: Hollerech, pronounced [ˈholəʀəɕ] ) is a quarter in south-western Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. As of 31 December 2022, the quarter has a population of 7,699 inhabitants.Hollerich railway station is located on Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois Line 70, which connects Luxembourg City to the south-west of the country. Hollerich station is only 600 metres to the south-west of the country's main terminus, Luxembourg railway station, and just to the west of a major junction that separates traffic exiting Luxembourg station to the south. The urban park Parc Merl is located on its border with Belair.

The Stade Josy Barthel is the former national stadium of Luxembourg, and the former home of the Luxembourg national football team. The stadium, which also hosted rugby union and athletics events, is located on route d'Arlon, in the Luxembourg City quarter of Belair. Following the opening of the Stade de Luxembourg in September 2021, the stadium and its grounds are currently due for demolition and redevelopment.
