Hollerich

The Luxembourg plateau is a large Early Jurassic sandstone plateau in south-central Luxembourg. Lying mostly between 300 metres (980 ft) and 400 metres (1,300 ft), it is the dominant part of the Gutland region.The mid-Alzette runs through the Luxembourg plateau, whilst the Black Ernz, White Ernz, Mamer, and Syre also have their sources on the Luxembourg plateau. The highest point is in the Grünewald, at 437 metres (1,434 ft). In terms of land use, the plateau is a patchwork of forests and farmland. Some of Luxembourg's most fertile soil is on the plateau, but other economic priorities and environmental pressure contribute to agriculture forming only a very small part of economic activity on the plateau. The plateau is the most populous sub-region of Luxembourg, being inhabited by over 170,000 people. Economically and socially, Luxembourg City dominates the plateau, with almost half of the population of the large sub-region. Other towns on the plateau include Bascharage, Bertrange, Howald, Mamer, and Strassen, all of which have populations in excess of 4,000 people. The economy of the region is focused on administration, financial services, tourism, and high tech industry.

Hollerich-Bonnevoie (German: Hollerich-Bonneweg) was the legal name of a part, formally section (German: Sektion), of the then-commune of Hollerich, in southern Luxembourg. It covered the neighbourhoods of Hollerich, Bonnevoie, and Gare, which formed the urbanised part of the commune, separated from Luxembourg City by the Pétrusse. City status was conferred upon Hollerich-Bonnevoie on 7 April 1914. The city, with the rest of the commune, merged into Luxembourg City on 26 March 1920, when the city status lapsed.

The 1952 UCI Road World Championships was the 23rd edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August 1952 in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. The race for amateurs was ridden on Saturday, August 23. It was 175 kilometres long (10 laps) and was decided in a sprint of a group of 17 riders, which ended in a big confusion. Dutchman Piet van den Brekel and Italian Luciano Ciancola crossed the finish line almost at the same time. Even the finish photo could not show a clear difference. First, Van den Brekel received the flowers, but moments later the Italian was declared world champion. Van den Brekel was disqualified in the evening because he had accepted a spectator's spare bike on the way. André Noyelle thus came second and Luxembourger Roger Ludwig third The professional road race was held on Sunday, August 24. 48 riders from nine countries participated. The race was 280 kilometres long and covered 16 laps of 17.5 kilometres. The race was surprisingly won by German outsider Heinz Müller who thus became the first German world champion among professional cyclists. In the same period, the 1952 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Parc des Princes in Paris, France.

Hollerich railway station (Luxembourgish: Gare Hollerech, French: Gare de Hollerich, German: Bahnhof Hollerich) is a railway station serving Hollerich, a quarter in the south-west of Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It is operated by Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, the state-owned railway company. The station is situated on Line 70, which connects Luxembourg City to the south-west of the country. It is the first stop south-west of the country's main terminus, Luxembourg railway station, which is located only 0.6 kilometres (0.37 mi) to the north-east. Located at the station is the Luxembourg memorial to the deportations during the German occupation of Luxembourg in World War II. Just under 700 Jews were deported from Luxembourg.

The Lycée Aline Mayrisch is a high school in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It is located on Campus Geesseknäppchen, along with several other educational institutions, most of which, including the Lycée Aline Mayrisch, is in the quarter of Hollerich, in the south-west of the city.It is named after Aline Mayrisch: a famous women's rights campaigner, socialite, and philanthropist, President of the Luxembourgian Red Cross, and wife of industrialist Émile Mayrisch.

Gasperich (Luxembourgish: Gaasperech, pronounced [ˈɡaːspəʀəɕ] ) is a quarter in southern Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. As of 31 December 2022, the quarter has a population of 9,694 inhabitants.In 2017, major building works began on a new development providing for dozens of large office buildings, hundreds of residences and a new shopping centre and Auchan hypermarket.

The Villa Pauly was built in 1923 at No. 57, Boulevard de la Pétrusse, in the center of Luxembourg, for the surgeon Dr. Norbert Pauly; the architect was Mathias Martin. With its corner towers, the house mimics the castle architecture of the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Initially Dr Pauly housed his practice in the basement of the building.

Lycée Michel Rodange, abbreviated to LMRL, is a high school in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It is located on Campus Geesseknäppchen, along with several other educational institutions, most of which, including Lycée Michel Rodange, is in the quarter of Hollerich, in the south-west of the city.It was founded by law on 5 August 1968 as the 'Nouveau Lycée de Luxembourg' (English: Luxembourg New School), but was renamed by Grand Ducal decree on 19 January 1970 to its current name, after Michel Rodange, the author of Luxembourg's national epic, Rénert the Fox. Rodange counts Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission as its alumnus.

The Bourbon Plateau is a plateau and neighbourhood of Luxembourg City that was named after the Fort Bourbon, part of the Fortress of Luxembourg.

The Athénée de Luxembourg (English: Luxembourg Athenaeum), is a high school situated in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. Throughout the school's history of more than 400 years, its name was changed repeatedly. It is nowadays popularly known as the Stater Kolléisch or De Kolléisch, and is the nation's oldest school still in existence.

Parc Merl (Luxemburgish Märeler Park) is an urban park in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. Despite its name, the park is not located in the quarter of Merl, but in Hollerich. It is bordered by avenue du 10 Septembre (N5) to the north-west, boulevard Pierre Dupong to the south-west, rue de Bragance to the south-east, and avenue Guillaume to the north-east.

Campus Geesseknäppchen is a campus in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg, that is shared by a number of academic institutions. The campus is located in the southwest of the city, just to the north of the terminus of the A4 motorway. It is predominantly in the quarter of Hollerich, although the western part (including the Conservatoire) lies in Merl. Shaped roughly like a right triangle, the campus measures 800 metres (880 yards) east-west along the hypotenuse, and 520 metres (570 yards) north-south at its maximum.
