Church Whitfield

Whitfield is a village, civil parish and electoral ward in the English county of Kent. It now forms part of the urban area of the town of Dover. It has a modern counterpart in the large settlement located at the junction of the A2 and A256 roads, some four miles (6.4 km) north of Dover.

Dover and Deal is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2024 by Mike Tapp representing the Labour Party. It was known as Dover until 1974 and from 1983 until 2024. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat reverted to its current name, to be first contested at the 2024 general election. Dover was considered a Cinque Ports constituency from 1386 to 1832.

Guston is a village and civil parish in the Dover district of Kent, in South East England. The village lies about a quarter of a mile north of the campus of the Duke of York's Royal Military School, near Martin Mill. In the 1950s the village was the site of a public house, a post office, a Saxon church and approximately one-hundred homes. There is also a windmill present, which has been converted into a house. Nearby villages include Whitfield, East Langdon, Pineham and Buckland. The River Dour is approximately 2.71 km away from Guston, and there is easy access to main roads, with the A2 and A258 running around and through the village. In the early 1870s, Guston was described by John Wilson: "A parish in Dover district, Kent; 2½ miles E by N of Ewell r. station, and 2½ N of Dover. Posttown, Dover. Acres, 1, 421; of which 20 are water. Real property, £2, 554. Pop., 436. Houses, 88. The property is divided among a few. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury; and was annexed in 1868 to the vicarage of River. The church is Norman; has three windows at the west end; and is good. There is a Wesleyan chapel."

West Langdon is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Langdon, in the Dover district of Kent, England. It is located five miles north of Dover town. In 1961 the parish had a population of 68. On 1 April 1963 the parish was abolished and merged with East Langdon to form "Langdon".The name Langdon derives from an Old English word meaning long hill. The first known written reference dates to 861 AD, mentioning one Langandune, but around 1200 AD there was a reference to Estlangedoun (East Langdon, about one mile to the south east) and Westlangedone. The Church is dedicated to Saint Mary. The remains of Langdon Abbey are nearby.

Buckland Anglo-Saxon cemetery was a place of burial. It is located on Long Hill in the town of Dover in Kent, South East England. Belonging to the Anglo-Saxon period, it was part of the much wider tradition of burial in Early Anglo-Saxon England. Buckland was an inhumation-only cemetery, with no evidence of cremation. The cemetery was on a false crest on the hill, having wide views of the surrounding landscape. Many of the dead were interred with grave goods, which included personal ornaments, weapons, and domestic items. The cemetery was discovered in 1951 when the site was being developed into a housing estate. At the order of the Inspectorate of Ancient Monuments, archaeologists under the directorship of Vera I. Evison undertook a rescue excavation. Post-excavation work took three decades, while the artefacts went on display at the British Museum in Bloomsbury, Central London.

Ashley (also known, signposted and marked on some maps as Sutton) is a hamlet located in the parish of Sutton, some five miles (8 km) north of Dover on the summit of Gaggs Hill in Kent, England. Ashley runs almost seamlessly into the neighbouring village of Studdal. The A256 road passes to the west of Ashley. The population of the hamlet is included in the civil parish of Tilmanstone. The main road running through Ashley is Chapel Lane. This is because of the small (Baptist) chapel that still stands on it. It was one of several village chapels in the area which belonged to the Eythorne Baptist Church "group". The chapel has now been converted into a dwelling / house. The public house in the photograph ceased trading in 2005 and was converted into a private dwelling in 2009. Ashley is in a predominantly rural area and the starting place of many hiking routes.

Langdon is a civil parish in the Dover district of Kent, England, and contains the villages of East Langdon and West Langdon, and the hamlets of Martin and Martin Mill. Langdon was the site of Langdon Abbey which was dissolved in 1535.

All Saints Church is a redundant Anglican church in Waldershare, Kent, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church is located 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Dover on the west side of the A256 road. The North Downs Way passes through the churchyard. The church is notable for the memorials in its chapels.

Langdon Abbey (grid reference TR329468) was a Premonstratensian abbey near West Langdon, Kent, founded in about 1192 and dissolved in 1535, reportedly the first religious house to be dissolved by Henry VIII. The visible remains of the abbey are now confined to the extensive cellaring below the 16th-century house that occupies its site and small remains of a 17th-century ice house.

Buckland including Buckland Valley is a village near (and now merged with) Dover, England. It is noted for the Buckland Anglo-Saxon cemetery whose finds now belong to the British Museum but are on display at Dover Museum. English railway contractor, Edward Betts, was born in Buckland.

St Edmund's Catholic School is a co-educational Roman Catholic secondary school located in Dover, Kent, England. The school is named after Edmund of Abingdon, and is under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark.

Old Park Hill is a 40-hectare (100-acre) nature reserve north of Dover in Kent. It is managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT). It is in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This steeply sloping hill has woodland, scrub and grassland. The site has not been managed since around 2005, and the KWT is removing scrub to increase restore its mainly grassland habitat, providing an increased area suitable for meadow butterflies, reptiles and orchids.There is access from Whitfield Hill.
