South Washington Heights is a neighborhood in Roanoke, Virginia, located in far western Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Washington Heights and Villa Heights on the north, Wilmont on the south, Shenandoah West on the east and Edgewood-Summit Hills on the west. The neighborhood fronts U.S. Highway 460 (Melrose Avenue) along its entire northern boundary.

WLRX (106.1 FM) and WAWX (101.7 FM) are FM radio stations owned by the Educational Media Foundation (EMF). WLRX is licensed to Vinton, Virginia, serving the Roanoke metropolitan area. WAWX is licensed to Lynchburg, Virginia, serving the Lynchburg metropolitan area. WLRX plays a Contemporary Christian radio format from the "K-Love" national network, while WAWX airs a Contemporary Worship format as a network affiliate of "Air1."Both stations are licensed for commercial operation. But K-Love and Air1 are listener-supported and run no commercials. In addition, EMF owns 106.9 WLGX in nearby Bedford, Virginia. WLGX also carries K-Love programming.

Washington Heights is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in northwest Roanoke, bound to the west by Virginia State Route 117. It borders the neighborhoods of Peachtree/Norwood on the west, South Washington Heights on the south, Villa Heights on the east and Westview Terrace on the north. The neighborhood sees both a mix of residential development throughout its area spanning a more traditional grid street network in addition to more typical suburban ranch style construction.

The Villa Heights house, also known as the Compton–Bateman House, is a historic house in Roanoke, Virginia, USA. Built in 1820, it was originally the home of Elijah McClanahan, a lieutenant-colonel in the War of 1812. It has been substantially renovated and restored over the years, including after a 2011 fire, and it is the namesake of the neighborhood of Villa Heights, Roanoke, Virginia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, and as of 2023 houses assorted non-profit groups.

Westview Terrace is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in northwest Roanoke. It borders the neighborhoods of Peachtree/Norwood on the west, Villa Heights and Washington Heights on the south and Miller Court/Arrowood on the north and east. The neighborhood is predominantly residential in character throughout its area with limited commercial development along its Virginia State Route 117 (Peters Creek Road) frontage. Its development patterns typical of those experienced for an American city during the mid-20th century with low-density housing.

William Fleming High School is a public school, one of the only two public high schools in the Roanoke City area school division, the other being the Patrick Henry High School. The edifice itself is located at 3649 Ferncliff Ave. Roanoke, Virginia 24017 and is positioned within the Miller/Arrowood neighborhood of the city. William Fleming along with the other public elementary, middle, and high schools comprise the Roanoke City Public School System that is regulated by the representatives that serve on the Roanoke City School Board.

Villa Heights is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in northwest Roanoke north of U.S. 460 (Melrose Avenue). It borders the neighborhoods of Washington Heights on the west, Melrose-Rugby on the east, Fairland, Miller Court/Arrowood and Westview Terrace on the north and Shenandoah West and South Washington Heights on the south. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Villa Heights has a population of 2,840 residents.

Fairland is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood located in north, central Roanoke across Interstate 581, opposite Valley View Mall. It borders the neighborhoods of Miller Court/Arrowood and Villa Heights on the west and Roundhill and Melrose-Rugby on the east. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, Fairland has a population of 1,492 residents.

The English Gardens Apartments is a historic complex of apartment buildings located in Roanoke, Virginia. The complex was designed by the Richmond-based architect E. Tucker Carlton, and was built in two phases. The first, completed in 1947, consists of nine building of three stories each, while the second, finished in 1950, consists of eight buildings of two stories each. The complex was designed in the Colonial Revival style, and all buildings are constructed of concrete blocks fronted with brick. The English Gardens was designed as a garden apartment complex, arranged to create courtyards between the buildings in order to maximize green space and ventilation. The Federal Housing Administration provided financing for the project, which was aimed primarily at middle-class World War II veterans and their families. The complex was listed to the National Register of Historic Places in 2022, and as of 2023 was in the process of reopening after a renovation.
