ARCO Arena (originally called the Sacramento Sports Arena and sometimes referred to as the Original ARCO Arena or ARCO Arena I to distinguish it from its successor) was an indoor arena in Sacramento, California. It was the NBA's smallest arena as it held just 10,333 people and was built in 1985 to temporarily accommodate the NBA's Sacramento Kings, who had relocated from Kansas City. The arena's first event was a fashion show on September 12, 1985. The arena also hosted boxing matches.The idea to move the Kings to the building was first pitched in late 1984, with the building being described as a "warehouse under construction" by the Sacramento Bee. The arena cost $12 million to build.Located north of Sacramento's downtown, ARCO Arena was nicknamed "The Madhouse on Market Street", and Kings games in this small venue were 100% sold out. Its official name of "ARCO Arena" is believed to be the first example of an NBA team selling naming rights to a brand new facility: in this case, rights were sold to the Atlantic Richfield Company, which is now a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum. The Kings sold the naming rights for $5 million over ten years in August 1985, which included the naming rights for the new arena. The Kings left this building in 1988 to move to the new ARCO Arena, built one mile (1.6 km) to the west. The structure survived as an office building for Sprint Communications. On December 19, 2005, the California Department of Consumer Affairs moved their headquarters into the building.

The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail (or American River Bike Trail) is a paved multi-use pathway that runs between the confluence of the Sacramento River with the American River, just north of downtown Sacramento, California, and Beal's Point at Folsom Lake, north of Folsom. The trail is 32 miles (51 km) long, and is used as a major recreational destination, as well as a commuter artery for cyclists. The trail is considered one of the longest paved purpose-built bike trails in the country. The trail is maintained by the County of Sacramento and is painted with mile markers placed at every half-mile increment.

Nisipowinan Village, also spelled Nisenan Village was a major Nisenan Native American tribe Village that is a historical site in Sacramento, California. The Nisipowinan Village in Sacramento is a California Historical Landmark No. 900 listed on June 16, 1976. The Sacramento Nisipowinan Village was located on the north banks of the American River just east of the now Interstate 5 Freeway in the Sacramento Discovery Park. The Nisenan tribe was part of the Maidu tribe. I the 1840s Nisenan tribe traded and worked in peace with people in and around Sutter's Fort, founded by John Sutter in 1839, was located on the south bank of the American River.

Natomas is a community in the northwestern section of the city of Sacramento, in the U.S. state of California. Natomas is generally divided into two areas by Interstate 80: North Natomas and South Natomas. North Natomas was historically an agricultural area on the floodplains of the Sacramento River, but grew quickly starting in the mid-1990s with extensive residential development, office park, and retail construction. South Natomas developed predominantly as residential subdivisions from the 1950s to the 1980s, but in 1982, amended its community plan to permit 2.4 million square feet of new office parks along Interstate 5. As a major center of employment, retail and entertainment facilities, Natomas is recognized as one of Greater Sacramento's most important edge cities (suburban economic centers) by Joel Garreau, who popularized the term. Natomas is generally defined as south of the Sacramento County line, north of the Garden Highway and the American River, west of the Steelhead Creek, and east of the Sacramento River. The neighborhood school district is Natomas Unified School District.

Area codes 916 and 279 are California telephone area codes that serve Sacramento, the state capital, and most of its suburbs. Area code 916 was one of the first three original area codes established in California in October 1947. It originally covered most of Northern California, but area code splits have reduced its coverage to the greater Sacramento area. Area code 279 began service in March 2018 to relieve an exhausted supply of telephone numbers in the 916 area code.

ARCO Arena (known as Power Balance Pavilion from 2011 to 2012 and Sleep Train Arena from 2012 until 2022), was an indoor arena located in Sacramento, California, United States. Opened in 1988, it was the home of the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1988 to 2016. It hosted nearly 200 spectator events each year. The arena was named for ARCO, at the time in 1988, a Los Angeles-based independent oil and gas company that today is now a brand owned by Findlay, Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum. It was later named for Sleep Train, a chain of mattress and bed retailers based in Rocklin, California, that at the time of the agreement was a subsidiary of Mattress Firm, a Houston-based retailer that has since re-branded all Sleep Train stores as Mattress Firm. Several major entertainers have performed at the venue before its closure including Bruno Mars and Linkin Park.

7th & Richards / Township 9 is a side platformed Sacramento RT Light Rail station in Sacramento, California, United States. The station was opened on June 15, 2012, and is operated by the Sacramento Regional Transit District. It is currently the northern terminus of the Green Line and is the only RT light rail station exclusively served by the Green Line, which will ultimately provide service to the Sacramento International Airport upon future build-out. Greyhound Lines's Sacramento bus depot is near the station, at 420 Richards Boulevard. It is located along Richards Boulevard at North 7th Street in the River District, north of Downtown Sacramento. Its opening coincided with the completion of a 1.1-mile (1.8 km) extension of track at a cost of $44 million as the first new station constructed as part of the Green Line. Its opening is envisioned to serve as a catalyst for the redevelopment of the River District by city officials.

The Natomas East Main Drainage Canal, also known as Steelhead Creek, flows into the American River in Sacramento County, California.

The American River (Spanish: Río de los Americanos) is a 30-mile (50 km)-long river in California that runs from the Sierra Nevada mountain range to its confluence with the Sacramento River in downtown Sacramento. Via the Sacramento River, it is part of the San Francisco Bay watershed. This river is fed by the melting snowpack of the Sierra Nevada and its many headwaters and tributaries, including the North Fork American River, the Middle Fork American River, and the South Fork American River. The American River is known for the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in Coloma in 1848 that started the California Gold Rush and contributed to the initial large-scale settlement of California by European immigrants. Today, the river still has high quality water, and it is the main source of drinking water for Sacramento. This river is dammed extensively for irrigation, flood control, and hydroelectric power. The American River watershed supports Mediterranean, temperate, and montane ecosystems, and it is the home of a diverse array of fish and wildlife.

Old North Sacramento is a planned train station that will be a stop on Altamont Corridor Express and Amtrak California's San Joaquin services. The station is located near the intersection of El Monte Avenue and Acoma Street. To be constructed as part of the Valley Rail project, it is expected to open by 2027. The Sacramento RT Light Rail Globe station is located nearby to the east.
