Eynsham Lock

Swinford in the English county of Oxfordshire is a hamlet in the civil parish of Cumnor. It lies on the road between Eynsham and Farmoor (B4044) on the south bank of the River Thames. The Swinford Toll Bridge carrying the B4044 crosses the River Thames here. In 1974 it was transferred from Berkshire to the county of Oxfordshire.

Swinford Toll Bridge is a privately owned toll bridge across the Thames in Oxfordshire, England. It crosses the river just above Eynsham Lock, between the village of Eynsham on the north-west bank and the hamlet of Swinford on the south-east bank (in Berkshire until 1974). It carries the B4044 between Oxford and Eynsham, which was the A40 road until the north Oxford bypass was completed in 1936. It is a Grade II* listed building, and has been scheduled as an ancient monument.

The Azad University in Oxford (AUO) is a university campus in Oxford, England, branch of the Islamic Azad University, Iran. AUO was founded in 2004 as part of Islamic Azad University's mission of international cooperation and the creation of a global community of educational and cultural exchange, and is one of the first higher education initiatives in Europe by a large private university in Iran. The parent Islamic Azad University has over one million students and more than 30,000 members of staff. A number of its lecturers have been granted tuition scholarships to strengthen their qualifications by working for the PhD degree in AUO and its partner universities in the UK. The institution offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, as well as short courses in English language.AUO is a part of the world's largest university in terms of students enrolled. AUO Oxford started operations in July 2004 as the first campus of Azad University in Europe. AUO is located in Farmoor, five miles west of the centre of Oxford. AUO offers merit based scholarships, and academic programmes at undergraduate, Masters, and pre-Masters, Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels and short courses.

The Cassington Canal (also known as the Cassington Cut or the Evenlode Cut) was an early 19th-century canal near Eynsham, Oxfordshire. The canal was built by the 4th Duke of Marlborough to provide a link between the River Thames and Cassington Mill; it later provided alternative wharfage to that at Eynsham. The 0.75-mile (1.21 km) canal was in operation for less than 70 years, its use declining with the advent of rail transport. The canal's primary use was to connect the Duke's salt works with the network of canals, rivers, and other inland waterways, as well as connecting the Oxford Canal and the Thames and Severn Canal.

Farmoor is a village 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of the centre of Oxford, England. The village was part of Berkshire until the 1974 local government boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire. The village is 550 yards (500 m) from Pinkhill Lock on the River Thames. Farmoor has a village shop, filling station and a small business park called Farmoor Court. Historically the Farmoor area was called the tything of Stroud. Farmoor Common was an open field within the tything. It is now submerged under the reservoir. The village was developed in the early decades of the 20th century and took its name from the Common. Farmoor is part of the parish of Cumnor, and until the 20th century parishioners worshipped 2 miles (3 km) away at the Church of England parish church of Saint Michael, Cumnor. There is now the church of Saint Mary, Farmoor that was built as a chapel of ease. Farmoor Reservoir was built in 1967 and extended in 1976. It has a number of wetland nature areas. BBC Television used Oaken Holt Rest Home in Eynsham Road, Farmoor, as a location for the 1990s sitcom Waiting for God.

Pinkhill Lock is a lock on the River Thames in England. It is close to Farmoor, Oxfordshire. The first lock was built of stone by Daniel Harris for the Thames Navigation Commission in 1791.The weir is on the other side of the island and carries a public footbridge. The name Luck's or Lot's Hole is given to part of the weir stream.

Eynsham Abbey was a Benedictine monastery in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, in England between 1005 and 1538. King Æthelred allowed Æthelmær the Stout to found the abbey in 1005. There is some evidence that the abbey was built on the site of an earlier minster, probably founded in the 7th or 8th centuries. The site is a Scheduled Historic Monument.

Eynsham is an English village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, about 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Oxford and east of Witney. The 2011 Census recorded a parish population of 4,648. It was estimated at 5,087 in 2020.

Farmoor Reservoir is a reservoir at Farmoor, Oxfordshire, England, about 5 miles (8 km) outside the city of Oxford. It is close to the east bank of the River Thames. Like most of the reservoirs in the Thames Valley, it was not formed by damming a valley. In this case the banks were raised above the local ground level using material excavated from within the bowl of the reservoir. The reservoir is split into Stage 1 (completed 1967, 4,544 million litres) and Stage 2 (completed 1976, 9,298 million litres). Among other locations, Farmoor supplies the large town of Swindon, some 25 miles (40 km) to the southwest. The reservoir is filled from the River Thames.The reservoir is used for sports: fishing (especially fly-fishing for rainbow and brown trout), dinghy sailing, windsurfing and stand up paddle boarding. Oxford SUP Club (stand-up paddle boarding), Oxford Sailing Club and the Oxford Sail Training Trust are based there. The latter offers sailing, windsurfing and powerboat courses. There is also access for bird watching and walking.

Eynsham railway station served the Oxfordshire town of Eynsham and the Eynsham Sugar Beet Factory on the Oxford, Witney and Fairford Railway between Oxford and Witney.

Cassington is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire about 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Oxford. The village lies on gravel strata about 1⁄2 mile (800 m) from the confluence of the River Evenlode with the River Thames. The parish includes the hamlet of Worton northeast of the village and the site of the former hamlet of Somerford to the south. Somerford seems to have been abandoned early in the 14th century. Cassington is formed of two parts, "upper" and "lower", each with its own village green. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 750.

Bartholomew School is a secondary school with academy status which is situated in the village of Eynsham, West Oxfordshire, England. In the 2016/17 school year there were 1221 pupils on roll, 122 of whom are in the sixth form. The school's current headteacher is Craig Thomas. Bartholomew School is one of the highest achieving state-owned schools in GCSE and A-Levels in Oxfordshire.
