The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a botanical garden of 313 acres (127 hectares) in the United States, with a conservatory operated by the University of Georgia. It is located at 2450 South Milledge Avenue, Athens, Georgia. The Garden contains eleven botanical and horticultural collections: Annual/Perennial Garden - annuals and perennials Dahlia Garden (1987) - dahlias Groundcover Collection - bugleflower, euonymus, hypericum, ivy, juniper, liriope, ophiopogon, thrift, vinca, etc. Heritage Garden - plants of historic and social interest to Georgia, including apples, pears, and peaches, cotton, peanuts, and tobacco. International Garden - Middle Ages (Herb Garden and Physic Garden), Age of Exploration (Mediterranean & Middle East, Spanish America, American South, and China sections), and Age of Conservation (American Indian Plants, Bog Garden, Threatened & Endangered Plants). Native Azalea Collection - azaleas Native Flora Garden - more than 300 species, including ferns, trilliums, bloodroot, and lady slipper orchids. Rhododendron Collection (1976) - rhododendrons Flower Garden - Brand new in 2008. Shade Garden - azalea, camellia, dogwood, laurel, magnolia, redbud, and viburnum. Trial Garden - shrubs and trees under evaluation for the southeastern United States.It also contains about 5 miles (8.0 km) of nature trails. In 1984, it received the designation as Georgia's "State Botanical Garden".

On February 22, 2024, Laken Riley, a 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student, was killed while she was jogging at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Her body was found in Oconee Forest Park near Lake Herrick; her death was caused by blunt force trauma and asphyxiation. The suspect, José Antonio Ibarra, is a 26-year-old Venezuelan who had entered the United States illegally. He was arrested by UGA police and has been charged with 10 charges, including felony murder, malice murder, false imprisonment aggravated assault with intent to rape and kidnapping. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial is expected to take place on November 18, 2024. The killing of Riley made international news, generating extensive media attention. It sparked a debate over immigration in the United States after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed Ibarra is not a U.S. citizen and was caught crossing the border but was released into the United States. On March 7, 2024, the House of Representatives passed an immigration bill named the Laken Riley Act, requiring federal detention of migrants who commit burglary or theft.

The Athens Confederate Monument is a Confederate memorial near Barber Creek in Athens, Georgia, United States. It is a Carrara marble obelisk mounted on a granite foundation engraved with names of the city's soldiers who were killed during the American Civil War. It was formerly located in the median strip of Broad Street in the Downtown Local Historic District of Athens until being removed in 2020 and being placed at its current site in 2021.

WPPP-LP is a non-commercial low power FM radio station in Athens, Georgia, United States. Owned by the non-profit Athens Community Radio Foundation, Inc., the station reaches listeners within a 15-mile radius of its studios near the University of Georgia campus. WPPP's programming includes alternative and progressive rock, as well as "news reports and progressive political commentary produced free of corporate interests and government influence." The station is affiliated with the Pacifica Radio network.

Gabrielsen Natatorium is a swimming and diving facility at the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia, U.S.A. The natatorium is home to the university's varsity swimming and diving programs and seats almost 2,000 spectators.

The Alexander Campbell King Law Library is the main law library of the University of Georgia School of Law. It is located in Hirsch Hall, one of two law school buildings on the nationally recognized historic North Quadrangle of the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia. It also features the Louis B. Sohn Library on International Relations, located inside the Dean Rusk International Law Center, in the law school's Dean Rusk Hall. It is named after the famous Georgia jurist Alexander Campbell King, who would become a founding partner of the international law firm King & Spalding LLP, a firm with which the University of Georgia has close ties. The library holds more than a half million digital and print titles and is a leader in the provision of information in electronic formats. Its collection is particularly strong in historical legal materials and comparative and international law. The library has won a number of awards and accolades over the years.

Five Points is a retail corridor and neighborhood in Athens, Georgia, centered on the intersection of Milledge Avenue and Lumpkin Street. It occupies the South-Southwest edge of the University of Georgia campus. Milledge Avenue is home to many University of Georgia Greek chapter houses, and is included in a tour by the Athens Welcome Center.

Foley Field is a baseball stadium in Athens, Georgia, United States. It is the home field of the University of Georgia Bulldogs college baseball team. The stadium holds 3,291 people. Foley Field was built in 1966. The stadium was renovated in 1990, the same year that the University of Georgia won the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Since that renovation, Georgia owns a 378–193–1 (.660) record there (through the 2006 season). Foley Field hosted the 1987 Southeastern Conference baseball tournament, won by Mississippi State. More recently, Foley Field has hosted four NCAA regional tournaments in 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, and in 2018. In all four years, the Bulldogs' baseball team advanced to the College World Series. Super Regionals were also hosted in 2001 featuring Florida State University, in 2006 against the University of South Carolina, and in 2008 with North Carolina State University as the guest. All three super regionals were won by Georgia, two games to one. The Bulldogs own a record of 20–7 in NCAA post season games held at Foley Field. They also set a 16–0 mark in elimination games with a 17–8 win on June 8, 2008, to earn a trip to Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium. Several attendance records have been set in recent years, including in both Super Regionals hosted by the stadium. First, 7th-ranked Georgia defeated 10th-ranked Florida State 8–7 in front of 4,290 spectators on June 2, 2001. Then, on June 12, 2006, 6th-ranked Georgia defeated 15th-ranked South Carolina in front of 4,302 spectators. The most recent record set was during the regular season on March 21, 2009, as 3rd-ranked Georgia defeated Mississippi State 4–0 in front of 4,461 spectators. In 2013, the Bulldogs ranked 35th among Division I baseball programs in attendance, averaging 1,940 per home game.
