North Richmond, Victoria

North Richmond railway station is located on the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the inner eastern Melbourne suburb of Richmond, and opened on 21 October 1901.The current station buildings were provided in 1981.

The Melba Memorial Conservatorium of Music was a school of music located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. During its early days it was closely associated with opera diva Dame Nellie Melba, after whom it was later named. In 1994 it became affiliated with Victoria University. Founded in 1901 as "The Conservatorium of Music, Melbourne", the Melba Conservatorium ceased teaching at the end of 2008. However, it finds its continuing expression in the form of Melba Opera Trust.

Richmond is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It is currently a 14 km² electorate in the inner east of Melbourne, encompassing the suburbs of Richmond, Cremorne, Burnley, Abbotsford, Collingwood, Clifton Hill, North Fitzroy and Fitzroy. Historically a very safe seat for the Labor Party, Richmond has in recent elections become increasingly marginal against the Greens, who narrowly failed to win it at the 2014 Victorian State election.

Jolimont and West Richmond was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria from 1889 to 1904. It was located in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne and included parts of Richmond and Jolimont. Its area was defined as: Commencing at the junction of Victoria-street and Separation-street; thence south by Separation-street and Lennox-street to Swan-street; west by Swan-street to Punt-road or Hoddle-street; south by that street to the Yarra River; westerly down that river to a point opposite the end of Gisborne-street; north to and by Gisborne-street to Victoria-parade ; east by Victoria-parade and Victoria-street to the commencing point. Jolimont and West Richmond was abolished in 1904 when several new districts, including the Electoral district of Abbotsford were created.

The Valhalla Cinema was a repertory and arthouse cinema in Melbourne, Australia. Noted for audience participation films, it was named for Valhalla, the "Hall of the slain" in Norse mythology.

Collingwood railway station is located on the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the north-eastern Melbourne suburb of Abbotsford, and it opened on 21 October 1901 as Collingwood Town Hall. It was renamed Collingwood on 1 May 1909.The station buildings and platforms were rebuilt in 1986/1987, and were in use by 7 September 1987.Whilst it is named after Collingwood (and the adjacent Collingwood Town Hall), the station is actually located in the neighbouring suburb of Abbotsford.

Electoral district of Abbotsford was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. Abbotsford was created by the post-Federation Electoral Districts Boundaries Act 1903 coming into effect in 1904 when 42 districts were abolished (including Jolimont and West Richmond) and 24 new ones created resulting in 65 districts. The district of Abbotsford was defined as: Commencing at the intersection of Hoddle-street and Bridge-road ; thence north by Hoddle-street to Reilly-street; thence east by that street to the Merri Creek ; thence southerly by that creek and the Yarra River to Campbell's-parade ; thence west by Campbell's-parade to Gleadell-street; thence north by that street to Highett-street; thence west by that street to Church-street; thence south by Church-street to Bridge-road ; and thence west by Bridge-road to the commencing point. now Alexandra Parade now Bridge Road

Collingwood Town Hall is a civic building located on Hoddle Street in Abbotsford, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The hall was built between 1885 and 1887 to the competition-winning design of local architect George R. Johnson in the Second Empire style, rich in detail with domed mansard roofs and a soaring clock tower. It is widely considered one of the finest town halls in Australia, and, along with the Sydney Town Hall and South Melbourne Town Hall, one of the best example of the Second Empire style in Australia. The Collingwood Town Hall building incorporated many functions in the one project, with a grand hall, a supper room, municipal offices and council chamber, post office, police station and court house, and a mechanics' institute (comprising separate ladies' and gentlemen's library rooms). The opening was held on the 29 March 1887. The clocks in the tower were installed later and were the subject of some debate in September 1887. They are reputed to have been the clocks once at the Melbourne General Post Office which was extended in 1888, but they were in fact ordered from Gaunt & Co, clockmakers, and were to be similar to the clocks at the GPO. Finally ordered in April 1888, and reportedly was on display at the 1888 Melbourne Centennial Exhibition, and the clock bell was cast by Mears and Stainbank at the Whitechapel Foundry, London, in 1890.It is considered an important example of the work of George R Johnson, possibly the most prolific designer of town halls in late 19th century Victoria (he designed or redesigned at least 6), as well as numerous theatres in Melbourne and other Australian cities. In 1938 the lobby and hall was significantly remodelled at the time in an Art Deco style, designed by AC Leith & Associates.The library space, upstairs on the north side, that was to be a mechanic's institute, became by the 1890s the Collingwood Municipal Library, open to the public until 10pm. In 1950 it moved downstairs to the former supper room, and then in 1978 into a former church across Stanton Street on the south side of the Town Hall. All the former rooms became office space.After the amalgamation of the City of Collingwood with the Cities of Fitzroy and Richmond in 1994 to form the City of Yarra, the Town Hall now functions as secondary offices and service centre for the Collingwood area for the City of Yarra. The Collingwood Police Station still operates from the rear on Eddy Court. The hall itself is used for special functions and as an exhibition space. In 2014 the hall was extensively renovated, and brought up to modern standards.

The Royal Melbourne Tennis Club (RMTC) is one of only four real tennis clubs in Australia, and the site of one of less than fifty real tennis venues in the world. The RMTC is the second oldest in Australia and the largest. It is one of only five clubs in the world with more than one court (along with Queens Club in London, Prested Hall, Cambridge University Real Tennis Club and the Racquet and Tennis Club). The RMTC is the home of the Australian Open, as well as the largest (in terms of player involvement) Real Tennis tournament in the world, the Boomerang Cup. Robert Fahey, who holds the record for most World Championship wins, was a professional at RMTC prior to his move to the UK.
