De Ronde Venen

Mijdrecht is a town in the Netherlands with about 16,000 residents. It is located in the municipality of De Ronde Venen, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) west of the main A2 motorway, between Utrecht and Amsterdam. The main street is the Dorpstraat, where most shops and the municipal offices are located. There is a police office, a fire department, 6 supermarkets, sport facilities, and a coffee shop. There is no police or doctor at the weekends.

Wilnis is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the municipality of De Ronde Venen, between Mijdrecht and Vinkeveen. It is about twenty kilometres south of Amsterdam. Wilnis was a separate municipality until 1989.

Amstelhoek is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is in the municipality of De Ronde Venen, about 3 km (1.9 mi) northwest of Mijdrecht. Amstelhoek lies on the river Amstel, directly across from Uithoorn. It was first mentioned in 1936 as Amstelhoek, and means "corner of the Amstel river". It was named after the fortress. The village developed around a bridge built in 1636, and used to be named Mennonietenbuurt, meaning Mennonite corner, because a Mennonite church was built in the hamlet. The Mennonites left around 1800, and sold the land and church to the Protestants in 1804. The village was home to 187 people in 1840. Between 1885 and 1895, two big forts were built near the village as part of the Stelling van Amsterdam. One of the forts was named Fort bij Amstelhoek.

Waverveen is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the municipality of De Ronde Venen, 3 km west of Vinkeveen. Waverveen was a separate municipality until 1841, when it was merged with Vinkeveen to form the municipality of Vinkeveen en Waverveen. Until 1 October 1819, Waverveen was part of Holland. The economy is mainly based on agriculture. It was first mentioned in 1339 as "toit Waverveen", and means "moorland of the Waver (river)". In 1672, French troops entered the village and demanded hay for their horses. They were not satisfied by the amount of hay, therefore, burnt to the village and killed several inhabitants. In 1840, it was home to 484 people.

Thamen is a former village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It was located north of Uithoorn. Thamen was a separate municipality until 1820, when it was merged with Uithoorn. Until 1819 both Thamen and Uithoorn were municipalities of the province of Utrecht.

In 2001, the village of Woerdense Verlaat had 303 inhabitants. Its built-up area was 0.067 km², and contained 113 residences. The statistical area "Woerdense Verlaat", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 690.

Slikkendam is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Nieuwkoop, and lies about 8 km north of Woerden.

Chemische Industrie Uithoorn (Cindu, later Cindu Chemicals) was a chemical company in Uithoorn, Netherlands specialising in processing from coal tar. The company was founded in 1922 as Teerbedrijf Uithoorn (TEBU), and operated under a number of company names. It was acquired by Koppers in 2010 and renamed Koppers Netherlands. A subsidiary producing polymers from tar derived chemicals was formed in 1960 as Neville Cindu Chemie (later Nevcin Polymers) and operated from the same site in Uithoorn. A reactor at the factory exploded in 1992, causing three deaths and several injuries. Cindu ceased operations in 2014.

Noorden is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Nieuwkoop, and lies about 10 km north of Woerden. In 2001, the town of Noorden had 975 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.18 km², and contained 337 residences. The statistical area "Noorden", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1590.
