Zaltbommel

Zaltbommel is a railway station located in Zaltbommel, Netherlands. The station was opened on 1 November 1869 and is located on the Utrecht–Boxtel railway. The train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

The siege of Zaltbommel was a campaign that took place during the Eighty Years' War and the Anglo–Spanish War from 15 May to 22 July 1599. The Spanish led by Francisco López de Mendoza y Mendoza launched an offensive campaign around Bommelerwaard, which was defended by an Anglo-Dutch force under the command of Maurice of Orange. A siege on the town of Zaltbommel by Spanish troops was attempted but they had to lift the siege and were defeated in subsequent attempts to regain the initiative. Mendoza retreated and the Spanish army then found itself in chaos: mutinies took effect and as a result further operations were suspended for a number of years. As a result, the Dutch and English followed with a counter-offensive in the Spanish Netherlands.

Bruchem is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 11 km north of 's-Hertogenbosch. Bruchem was a separate municipality, which was renamed in 1818, to "Kerkwijk".It was first mentioned in the first quarter of the 13th century as Bruchem, and means "settlement on swampy land". There is an 868 reference to Brucheim, however it is not clear whether it is the same settlement. The village developed into a stretched out esdorp. The nave of the Protestant church dates from around 1300, and the choir dates from the 14th century. In 1840, Bruchem was home to 452 people.

Tuil is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Betuwe, and lies about 14 km west of the town Tiel. Jan Willem Boellaard has been Lord of Tuil since 1956.

Waardenburg is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Betuwe, and is located about 13 km west of Tiel. Waardenburg was a separate municipality until 1978, when it was merged with Neerijnen.

Waardenburg Castle, sometimes also called Weerdenburg, is a medieval castle located in Waardenburg in the municipality of West Betuwe, in the Dutch province of Gelderland.

The Kil Hurwenen, or De Kil as locals call it, is a nature reserve in the floodplain of the Waal at Hurwenen in the Netherlands in the municipality of Maasdriel.The area was created in 1639 when a former meander of the Waal was cut off from the river by human intervention. The walk in the countryside is still clearly recognizable. During high tide the area is still flooded by water from the river. In the immediate vicinity there are a number of sand ditches, a remnant of the clay extraction for the brick industry in the area. Before the municipal reorganization of 1999 the preserve still partly belonged to the municipality of Zaltbommel. However, by a boundary adjustment the nature preserve belongs entirely to the municipality of Maasdriel.Many bird species encountered during the trek to and from their wintering areas using the area to forage.The Kil Hurwenen is the property of The Dutch National Forest Service and is not accessible to the public. However, the surrounding fields from May 1 to October 1 are freely accessible from sunrise to sunset.

Kerkwijk is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 11 km northwest of 's-Hertogenbosch. Kerkwijk was a separate municipality between 1818 and 1999, when it was merged with Zaltbommel.The statistical area "Kerkwijk", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of 696 in 2022.It was first mentioned in the first quarter of the 13th century as Kirkevuihc, and means "church village". Kerkwijk has a church that dates back to the 11th century, consisting of a Romanesque nave, a late-Romanesque tower and a Gothic tower from the fifteenth century. The church has wooden vaults with paintings from the fifteenth century. In 1840, Kerkwijk was home to 169 people.

Goudenstein Castle is a castle ruin in Haaften, a village in the municipality of Neerijnen in the Dutch province of Gelderland.

Haaften is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland, on the northern shore of the river Waal, about opposite Zaltbommel. It is a part of the municipality of West Betuwe, and lies about 25 km south of Utrecht. From 1818 to 1977 Haaften was the main village and seat of the town hall of the eponymous municipality, which also comprised the smaller villages of Hellouw to the west and Tuil to the east, all on the northern bank of the river Waal. On 1 January 1978 it was merged with the Neerijnen municipality of which it formed the westernmost part. In 2019 Neerijnen merged with several other municipalities to form West Betuwe.

Neerijnen (Dutch pronunciation: [neːˈrɛinə(n)] ) is a village and former municipality in the Netherlands. It is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) south of Utrecht and some 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of 's-Hertogenbosch. On 1 January 2019, it merged with Geldermalsen and Lingewaal to form the new municipality of West Betuwe.

Wordragen is a Dutch hamlet, north of Ammerzoden in the Maasdriel municipality of Gelderland province. It was first mentioned in the 13th century as Vurdragen. The etymology is unknown, however it contains woerd (terp, an artificial living mound). Wordragen is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Ammerzoden. In 1840, it was home to 94 people. Nowadays it consists of about 40 houses.
