The Acme ZIP code of 15610 extends well beyond the more densely populated part of the area, into rural parts of Donegal Township in Westmoreland County and Bullskin Township in Fayette County.

Kecksburg is an unincorporated community in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. Located in a heavily wooded area along PA Route 982, it is approximately thirty miles southeast of Pittsburgh at an elevation of 1,209 feet.

Bear Rocks is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Bullskin Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located along the south side of Pennsylvania Route 31 in northern Fayette County, on the western slope of Chestnut Ridge. The elevation ranges from 1,150 feet (350 m) above sea level at the northwestern end of the community, in the valley of Jacobs Creek, to 2,196 feet (669 m) near the southeastern corner of the community, at the intersection of Kreinbrook Hill Road and Sky Top Road. In 1977, Bear Rocks was the site of a controversial murder. A local man, David Munchinski, was found guilty of the crime and served 26 years in prison. He was later found to have been wrongfully convicted and was released.

The Mammoth Mine disaster or Frick Mine explosion occurred on January 27, 1891 just after 9:00 AM in the Mammoth No. 1 mine in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Newspapers reported that firedamp was ignited by a miner's oil lamp, resulting in the deaths of 109 men and boys. Most of the miners were not killed by the force of the explosion, but rather were suffocated by the effects of afterdamp.

As of the 2010 census, Calumet-Norvelt was divided into two separate CDPs officially. Calumet was a typical "patch town," another name for a coal town, built by a single company to house coal miners as cheaply as possible. The closing of the Calumet mine during the Great Depression caused enormous hardship in an era when unemployment compensation and welfare payments were nonexistent. On the other hand, Norvelt was created during the depression by the US federal government as a model community, intended to increase the standard of living of laid-off coal miners.
