The University of Bordeaux 1 (French: Université Bordeaux-I) was one of the four universities in the Academy of Bordeaux, together with the Bordeaux Segalen University (Bordeaux 2), Michel de Montaigne University (Bordeaux 3) and Montesquieu University (Bordeaux 4), and one of five in Aquitaine. On 1 January 2014, it merged with Bordeaux 2 and Bordeaux 4 to form the University of Bordeaux. It currently operates as the Talence campus of the merged University of Bordeaux. The Institute of mechanics and engineering (in French : Institut de mécanique et d'ingénierie), also known as the I2M, is a French institute of research located in Bordeaux, more precisely in the science Campus of Talence, Pessac and Gradignan. It is under the authority of University of Bordeaux, CNRS / INSIS, Arts et Métiers ParisTech, Bordeaux INP and INRA. It is in addition part of the Carnot Institute ARTS and currently employs more than 300 persons. It was created in 2011 from the merge of 3 "Unités Mixtes de Recherche" CNRS/University laboratories: LMP, TREFLE, US2B and 3 "Equipes d'Accueil" of Research Ministry: LAMEFIP, LGM2B, GHYMAC. The I2M is also part of the IdEX Bordeaux (LabEX AMADEUS, CPU, EquipEx XYLOFOREST) and of the interregional cluster AEROSPACE VALLEY Aerospace Valley.

The Polytechnic Institute of Bordeaux (Bordeaux INP) (Institut polytechnique de Bordeaux, Groupe Bordeaux INP and before INPB) is a French technological university system consisting of six engineering schools. The institute is a Grand établissement.Bordeaux INP offers through its internal schools nine engineering specialties, in: Agrifood and Biological Engineering Biotechnology Chemistry and Engineering Physics Cognitive Electronics Georesources and Environment Computer science Mathematics and Mechanics Industrial Performance and Aeronautical Maintenance Telecommunications.The institute also offers Masters of Science in: Radio and telecommunications systems, Nano and Micro technologies, Design and processing of inorganic materials, and in Applied Formulation of Polymers and Colloids.

The Jardin botanique de Talence (2.5 hectares) is a small botanical garden within the Parc du Château Peixotto at 3 avenue Espeleta, Talence, Gironde, Aquitaine, France. The park is open daily without charge, but the botanical garden itself is open only to students and professionals. Today's garden belongs to the Université de Bordeaux. It contains about 2000 species of pharmaceutical and medical interest, including numerous taxa Cucurbitaceae, Cyperaceae, Malvaceae, as well as two greenhouses, an orangerie, and a classroom building.

Bordeaux Institute of Technology - ENSEIRB-MATMECA School of Engineering (in French: Bordeaux INP - ENSEIRB-MATMECA) is a French Engineering Grande École located in Bordeaux and specialized in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics. The majority of the admitted students are selected among candidates from the French Preparatory Classes for Engineering Schools which is a 2 to 3-year undergraduate level program in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering Sciences. After admission, the standard curriculum is a 3-year program resulting in the French Diplôme d'Ingénieur, considered as a Master's degree of the European Higher Education Area.

The canton of Talence is an administrative division of the Gironde department, southwestern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Talence.It consists of the following communes: Bègles (partly) Talence
