New Tech High School (Dallas)

Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy at A. Maceo Smith (BOMLA) is a magnet secondary school for boys located in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas. It is a part of the Dallas Independent School District. After the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School, it is DISD's second single gender school.The school, which occupies the campus of the former A. Maceo Smith High School, is named after former President of the United States Barack Obama, in honor of the fact that he was the first black President. The campus was named for Antonio Maceo Smith (1903–1977), a pioneer civil rights leader in Dallas.

A. Maceo Smith High School was a four-year public high school serving grades 9-12 in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas (USA). It was part of the Dallas Independent School District. It was replaced by A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School in 2011, and in 2018 Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy began to occupy the campus. The school was named for Antonio Maceo Smith (1903–1977), a pioneer civil rights leader in Dallas.

Bishop College was a historically black college, founded in Marshall, Texas, United States, in 1881 by the Baptist Home Mission Society. It was intended to serve students in east Texas, where the majority of the black population lived at the time. In 1961 the administration moved the college into Dallas, Texas. It closed in 1988. In 2006 the president of Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky reached out to Bishop College alumni, proposing to have them "adopt" his college as an alma mater. He offered scholarships to their descendants, with a chance to have their diploma read "Bishop College". This was part of an effort to increase minority enrollment at Georgetown.

Fruitdale, sometimes called Fruitdale Acres, is an area in Dallas, Texas, United States that used to be its own incorporated city. On April 17, 1937 Fruitdale incorporated so it would not be annexed by Dallas. In October 1964 residents voted to disincorporate and Dallas annexed Fruitdale in November of that year.

Paul Quinn College (PQC) is a private historically black Methodist college in Dallas, Texas. The college is affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME). It is the oldest historically black college west of the Mississippi River and the nation's first urban work college.Paul Quinn is home to the WE over ME Farm, which was created through a partnership with PepsiCo to bring healthy food to the food desert of Dallas.

Ledbetter station is a DART Light Rail station in Dallas, Texas. It is near the Intersection of Lancaster Road (SH 342) and Ledbetter Drive in the Oak Cliff neighborhood. It serves Paul Quinn College. It opened on May 31, 1997, and served as the southern terminus for the Blue Line until an extension to UNT Dallas station opened October 24, 2016.

VA Medical Center station is a DART Light Rail station in Dallas, Texas. It is located at Lancaster Road (SH 342) and Mentor Avenue in the Oak Cliff neighborhood. It opened on May 31, 1997. It serves the Blue Line, serving nearby residences and businesses, the Dallas VA Medical Center, and the Dallas Urban League.

Camp Wisdom station is an at-grade DART Light Rail station along the Blue Line, which is located at 6712 Patrol Way in Dallas, Texas. It opened on October 24, 2016 as part of the South Oak Cliff Corridor extension. DART has hoped that this extension will help spur development south of Ledbetter along the new corridor to UNT Dallas. The station is within walking distance of the Dallas Police Department's South Central station. It also includes bus access from the west side of Patrol Way.

Kiest station is a DART Light Rail station in Dallas, Texas. It serves the Oak Cliff neighborhood on Kiest Boulevard and Lancaster Road (SH 342). It opened on May 31, 1997, and is a station on the Blue Line, serving nearby residences and businesses.

Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Collegiate Academy is an advanced high school focusing on college readiness and is located on the grounds of the University of North Texas at Dallas in southern Dallas, Texas. It is a part of the Dallas Independent School District. The school was named after Kathlyn Joy Gilliam, the first African-American woman who served on the Dallas ISD school board and the first African-American to serve as the president of the Dallas ISD board.Prior to relocating to its current building, Gilliam was housed in the Nolan Estes Plaza. Construction of the current campus began in June 2010. The current campus opened in the fall of 2011.

The 1927 PGA Championship was the 10th PGA Championship, held from October 31 to November 5 in Texas at Cedar Crest Country Club in Dallas. Then a match play championship, Walter Hagen defeated Joe Turnesa 1 up in the finals to win his fourth consecutive PGA Championship, his fifth and final overall, and the ninth of his eleven major titles. The victory ran Hagen's match record at the PGA Championship in the 1920s to 30–1 (.968), falling only to Gene Sarazen in 38 holes in the 1923 finals. With his fourth consecutive title, his winning streak stood at twenty matches. Hagen, age 34, was also the medalist in the 36-hole qualifier on Monday at 141 (−1).The course, south of downtown Dallas, was designed by A. W. Tillinghast and opened in 1919. It hosted the Dallas Open less than two years earlier in January 1926, won by Macdonald Smith. The country club closed in 1929 and the course was purchased by the City of Dallas in 1946 and it continues as a public facility. At the time, this was the furthest west and south that a major championship had been held. The western limit had been Illinois for multiple majors, and the southernmost venues had been Indiana for the PGA Championship in 1924 and Maryland for the U.S. Open in 1921. Two years later in 1929, the PGA Championship was played in Los Angeles, California.
