Florey () is a residential suburb of the Belconnen district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Florey was gazetted on 5 August 1975 and most houses were constructed in the mid-1980s. The suburb itself is named after Howard Florey, Baron Florey, who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945 for his role in the extraction of penicillin. The streets of Florey are named after Australian scientists.

Melba () is a residential suburb in the Belconnen district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. The suburb of Melba is named after Dame Nellie Melba (1861–1931), the first internationally recognised Australian opera soprano. The streets are named after composers, singers and other musically notable Australians or people with strong Australian connections.

Melba Copland Secondary School opened in 1978 at Copland Drive, Melba, Australian Capital Territory, Australia It is a supporter of the IB Diploma Program. In 2007, it was decided by the ACT Government to merge Copland College and Melba High School. Since 2009 the joint school has been called Melba Copland Secondary School.

St Francis Xavier College (abbreviated SFX) is a coeducational, systemic Catholic high school and college in Florey, Australian Capital Territory, Australia.The college caters for years 7 to 12 from the Belconnen and Gungahlin areas and is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Catholic Education System. The school is named after Saint Francis Xavier of Spain, who was a Jesuit Missionary who spread the Christian message in India and parts of Japan.

The suburb is named after John Flynn, who was a Presbyterian minister and missionary who was mainly responsible for the formation of the Australian Inland Mission Aerial Medical service in 1928. Flynn was the forerunner of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia. Miles Franklin Primary School is a primary school in Evatt, Canberra. The school is named after Australian author Miles Franklin and was opened in 1980; as Franklin's novel My Brilliant Career had received public acclaim in 1979, it seemed suitable for the school to be named in recognition of her. Each year the school celebrates her birthday with a writing competition and an 'old fashion' dress up day. During this day the students are involved in a variety of activities from yesteryear. The school's colours are red, blue and white. They have three houses, all named after Australian authors: Jennings (red) Klein (white) Gibbs (blue)The houses compete in swimming carnivals, athletics carnivals, and to a lesser extent, cross country races.
