Ossington Street

47 Palace Court is a Grade II listed building at Palace Court, Bayswater, London, W2.It was built in about 1890, and the architect was Leonard Stokes. There is a blue plaque to the writer Alice Meynell, who lived there.

Bayswater is an area within the City of Westminster in West London. It is a built-up district with a population density of 17,500 per square kilometre. It is located 2.5 miles (4.0 km) west-northwest of Charing Cross, between Kensington Gardens to the south, Paddington to the north-east, and Notting Hill to the west. Bayswater is one of London's most cosmopolitan areas: a diverse local population is augmented by a high concentration of hotels. In addition to the English, there are many other nationalities. Notable ethnic groups include Malaysians, Greeks, French, Americans, Brazilians, Italians, Irish, Arabs, and many others.The streets and garden squares are lined with Victorian stucco terraces, mostly now subdivided into flats and boarding houses. Properties range from apartments to small studio flats. There are also purpose-built apartment blocks dating from the inter-war period as well as more recent developments, and a large council estate, the 650-flat Hallfield Estate, designed by Sir Denys Lasdun and now largely sold off. Queensway and Westbourne Grove are its busiest high streets, both having many international ethnic-cuisine restaurants.

The Embassy of Czechoslovakia was originally located on Grosvenor Place, before moving to the location of the current Czech and Slovak embassies in 1970. The construction of a new brutalist-style building at this site had begun in 1965 and was undertaken by Jan Bočan, Jan Šrámek and Karel Štěpánský from the atelier Beta Prague Project Institute; it received an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects for the best building in the United Kingdom created by foreign architects. The building was then divided between Czechia and Slovakia following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993.

Saint Sophia Cathedral (Greek: Καθεδρικός ναός της Αγίας Σοφίας) is a Greek Orthodox church on Moscow Road in the Bayswater area of London. It was consecrated as the Church of the Holy Wisdom on 5 February 1882 by Antonios, Metropolitan of Corfu, as a focus for the prosperous Greek community that had settled in London, particularly around Paddington, Bayswater and Notting Hill. Today, in addition to its regular Saturday and Sunday services, it hosts a Greek polyphonic choir, Byzantine music, and an associated school in which pupils discover the history and language of Greece and take Greek dancing lessons.

St Petersburgh Place is a street in the Bayswater area of London, located in the City of Westminster. It runs north to south from Moscow Road to Bayswater Road, close to the northwestern entrance to Kensington Gardens. It was constructed by the property developer and painter Edward Orme during the Regency. As with Moscow Road its name commemorates the visit of Alexander I of Russia to London in 1814 as part of the Allied celebrations following the victory in the Napoleonic Wars. It was originally known simply as Petersburgh Place, but this was later changed to St Petersburgh Place, an alternative spelling of Saint Petersburg, the then-capital of the Russian Empire. In 1818 Orme constructed a Bayswater Chapel for the growing number of inhabitants. From 1823 to 1826 Orme also developed the nearby Orme Square. Adjacent to the street is the smaller St Petersburgh Mews, which runs parallel northwards to Moscow Road. St Petersburgh Place is noted for its two places of worship, the Anglican parish church of St Matthew's, Bayswater, and the Jewish New West End Synagogue, both of which are listed buildings. The street also features Lancaster Close, a 1920s Art Deco apartment block. Unlike Rue de Saint-Pétersbourg in Paris, St Petersburgh Place and Mews both kept their names throughout the twentieth century when the Russian city's name changed in 1914, 1924, and 1991.

The New West End Synagogue, located in St. Petersburgh Place, Bayswater, London, is one of the oldest synagogues in the United Kingdom still in use. It is one of two synagogues which have been awarded Grade I listed building status by Historic England, which has described it as "the architectural high-water mark of Anglo-Jewish architecture". Essex Street Chapel, also known as Essex Church, is a Unitarian place of worship in London. It was the first church in England set up with this doctrine, and was established when Dissenters still faced legal threat. As the birthplace of British Unitarianism, Essex Street has particularly been associated with social reformers and theologians. The congregation moved west in the 19th century, allowing the building to be turned into the headquarters for the British and Foreign Unitarian Association and the Sunday School Association. These evolved into the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches, the umbrella organisation for British Unitarianism, which is still based on the same site, in an office building called Essex Hall. This article deals with the buildings (1778, 1887, 1958), the history, and the current church, based in Kensington.

Moscow Road is a street in the Bayswater area of London. Located in the City of Westminster, it runs eastwards from Queensway to Pembridge Square. It was developed by the painter, publisher, and property pioneer Edward Orme in 1814–15, as part of the rapid expansion of the city in the Regency era. It was named in commemoration of Tsar Alexander's participation in the Allied sovereigns' visit to England as part of the victory celebrations following the Napoleonic Wars. An adjacent street was named Petersburgh Place. During the nineteenth century Moscow Road became a centre of the Greek diaspora in London. In 1879 the Greek Orthodox Saint Sophia was opened as a church on the road, and in 1922 became a cathedral. The residential Ossington Street runs off it. Several pubs are today located along the road.
