Elkin Township, Surry County, North Carolina

Elkin is a town in Surry and Wilkes counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina, along the Yadkin River. Elkin shares its name with the surrounding township of Elkin Township. The population was 4,122 at the time of the 2020 census.

Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital is a historic hospital building located near Elkin, Surry County, North Carolina. The original rectangular section was built in 1930–1931, with additions made in 1937, 1947, and 1952. The original brick section is two stories over a partially above-ground basement in the Colonial Revival style/ It is eleven bays long and two rooms deep, with a slate-covered hipped roof with a central cupola and two rear dormers. The associated Nurses' Home was built in 1932, and is a two-story-with-basement rectangular brick building in the Colonial Revival style. Frame side wings were added to Nurses' Home in 1937. The hospital was converted to a nursing home and interior remodeled in 1973.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Poplar Springs is an unincorporated community in southwestern Surry County, North Carolina, United States, situated on Springs Road between the town of Elkin and the community of Mulberry. Prominent landmarks include Poplar Springs Baptist Church and cemetery. The community is serviced by State Road Volunteer Fire Department, founded in 1960. Also located in the area is Cedar Brook Country Club, popular for golf, tennis, and swimming for area citizens. Businesses in the area include: Poplar Springs Grocery and Service, Tracy's Garage, Elk Electric Motors, L & A Emergency Equipment, Inc., Watson Metals, and Pine Log Company.

Notable buildings include the Elkin Presbyterian Church (1937, 1944, 1950, 1955, 1961), First Baptist Church (1955, 1968), Alexander Martin Smith House (1893–1897) designed by George Franklin Barber, the Gwyn-Chatham-Gwyn House (c. 1872, 1911, 1936), Richard Gwyn Smith House (c. 1918), and Mason Lillard House (c. 1910).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Elkin Creek Mill is a historic grist mill located near West Elkin, Wilkes County, North Carolina. It was built about 1896, and is a two-story, rectangular frame structure on fieldstone piers. It has a one-story gable roofed wing and one-story shed addition. The milling equipment remains in place in the building. Also on the property is a contributing four stall stable.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Cedar Point, also known as the Richard Gwyn House and Richard Gwyn Franklin House, is a historic home located at Elkin, Surry County, North Carolina. It was built about 1840, and is a two-story, three-bay, Greek Revival style frame I-house. It has a two-story rear ell and rests on a brick pier foundation. It features a one-story, hip-roofed front porch with overhanging boxed eaves. It was built by Richard Gwyn (1796-1881), known as "Elkin's Founding Father."It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.There is also an interesting Indian rock located in the front yard (which can be seen from the road) which still contains an attached carved bowl.
