Arbury Hall

Arbury Priory was an Augustinian priory in the parish of Chilvers Coton, Warwickshire, England. The priory was founded early in the reign of Henry II (c.1154) by Ralph de Sudley and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. The original endowment consisted of the churches of Chilvers Coton and Dassett, together with associated land and the rights to timber, wood for fuel, and pannage. It was later given the church of Weston under Wetherley by an unknown donor. In succeeding centuries more land was either donated or purchased. In 1235 an enquiry commissioned by the Pope discovered that the priors were living a dissolute life as part of the Arroasian order. He ordered the Bishop of Coventry to convert them to the rule of St Augustine, which he did by transferring suitable monks to Arbury from other establishments to encourage their conversion. At the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536 the community consisted of a prior and six brothers, plus a number of servants. Arbury was granted to Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, a favourite of the king, whose heiress sold it to Sir Edmund Anderson, Chief Justice of the Common Pleas. He demolished the priory and used the materials to build Arbury Hall.

Lake Harrison or Lake Bosworth is the name given to a lake that in parts of the Ice Age may have covered much of the Midlands in England around Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester. It is suggested that it was formed when ice sheets over Wales and Northern England blocked drainage north-eastwards, trapping a lake between this and the Cotswolds. Finally the lake made two overflow courses, until drainage by the Cole and Soar could resume due to glacial retreat: South-east. Across the Fenny Compton Gap into the Cherwell which drains into the Thames. This has become a wind gap. South-west. This course became lasting for the south-west zone of where the lake was, as the River Avon, Warwickshire which flows into the Severn. See also stream capture. The extent of this proposed lake has been disputed, and it is now thought that several smaller proglacial lakes may explain the glacial deposits in the area.

Nuneaton Academy (formerly Alderman Smith School) is a coeducational secondary school with academy status located in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England.Originally known as Alderman Smith School, the school was formally closed in 2011 and reopened the next day as Nuneaton Academy, with largely the same pupils and staff. The Nuneaton Academy is part of a trust called the Midlands Academy Trust with Hartshill Academy, George Elliot Academy and Heath Lane Academy. In 2023, it was announced that United Learning Trust will take over the MAT Trust.

St Paul's Church, Stockingford, is a Church of England parish church in Stockingford, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England. It is part of the Diocese of Coventry.

Stockingford is a suburb of the town of Nuneaton, in the county of Warwickshire, England, about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Nuneaton town centre. Stockingford first appeared in records in 1157, named Stoccingford, derived from the Old English Stocc; to root up trees. It therefore has its origin as a clearance in a wood, by a ford across a stream. It was historically a small hamlet within the old parish of Nuneaton. In the early 19th century the area became industrialised, with several collieries and brickworks, and the population expanded rapidly. In 1824, the church of St Paul's was built, originally as a chapel of ease to the main church in Nuneaton. Stockingford became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1846, and St Paul's church became a parish church.Stockingford was served by its own railway station on the Birmingham to Nuneaton line from 1864 until 1968. There have been proposals to reopen the station in recent years.Stockingford was mentioned in George Eliot's novel Scenes of Clerical Life as 'Paddiford Common'.The area is adjacent to Whittleford Park, a public park and nature reserve, reclaimed from former industrial land in the 2000s.

Stockingford (, STOK-ing-FORD) was a railway station serving the Stockingford area of Nuneaton in Warwickshire, England. It was opened by the Midland Railway on the Birmingham-Nuneaton-Leicester Line in 1864, and operated until closure in 1968. The station came under the ownership of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) in 1923, and then British Railways. It was closed on 4 March 1968. The line however remains open.

Whittleford Park is a 43 hectare greenspace located between Stockingford and Camp Hill in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Although its development as a public park by Warwickshire County Council only started in 2005, it has a long industrial history, being the site of coal mining, and brick and tile making.

Bermuda is a suburb of Nuneaton in the English county of Warwickshire. Bermuda was originally a small pit village built in 1893 to house workers for the Griff Colliery Company's new mine, "Griff Clara". The village initially consisted of ninety miners' houses, a working men's club, and a mission hall. The new construction replaced the former workers' housing, known as "the Old Row". Bermuda was named for local landowner Edward Newdegate, a former Governor of Bermuda. The village was constructed next to local transportation and industrial infrastructure, including the Griff Arm of the Coventry Canal and the Stanley Brickworks. Bermuda Village itself is preserved by planning regulations as an "area of restraint", meaning that no major redevelopment should take place in the village itself. Bermuda Park was built on land next to Bermuda Village in the mid-2000s. It is a large modern housing estate with some notable features such as a village green, a large artificial hill (known locally as "Mount Bermuda") and Bermuda Lake. The estate backs onto open countryside near Arbury Hall and a large industrial and leisure park. The estate is supported by Bermuda Park Community, an organisation focussed on improving the quality of life for residents of the area. The Bermuda Park railway station was opened serving the area in 2016. The village made it to national and even international headlines in 1972 when a large dump of cyanide was discovered on a children's playground, probably sourced from the local car industry. This eventually lead to a change in legislation that made dumping dangerous waste illegal.Bermuda contains “Bermuda Park” which has an Odean Cinema, Bowling alley, Soft Play Area, Hotel, KFC, McDonalds, Starbucks, Subway and a restaurant Middlemarch Farm. It’s located South of the Bermuda housing area, Its on the A444 ‘Griff Lane’. On 22 October 2017, a gunman, David Clarke, aged 53, stormed into the bowling alley. He took many hostages and made national headlines. Eventually he pleaded guilty to two counts of false imprisonment, one count of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, one count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place and one count of criminal damage.

Griff is a hamlet in the Nuneaton and Bedworth district of Warwickshire, England. The hamlet is on the A444 road between the towns of Nuneaton and Bedworth. Formerly a coal mining area there is evidence that coal was obtained from Griff from as early as the twelfth century. Griff Quarry produces 260,000 tonnes (290,000 tons) of aggregate annually.Mary Ann Evans (George Eliot) was brought up at Griff House, now a hotel. Griff is likely represented in Eliot's novel Middlemarch as "Frick", which is described as "[Mr Solomon's] side of Lowick was the most remote from the village, and the houses of the labouring people were either lone cottages or were collected in a hamlet called Frick, where a water-mill and some stone-pits made a little centre of slow, heavy-shouldered industry."Now it’s mostly just the A444, grasslands and Coventry Road which leads into Bedworth.

Camp Hill is a suburb of the town of Nuneaton in Warwickshire located around 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-west of the town centre. It is also a ward of Nuneaton and Bedworth borough, which had a population of 9,599 in the 2021 census.The name of the area is said to have been derived from an old Roman camp.

St Thomas More Catholic School and Sixth Form College (formerly St Thomas More Catholic School and Technology College) is a mixed Roman Catholic secondary school located on Greenmoor Road, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England. It is listed as a specialist Technology school by Ofsted, which requires the school to offer GCSEs in Technology to all students. The principal is Mrs Leearna Thomas who has been in the position since the beginning of 2018 after taking over from Mr Francis Hickey. As of September 2012, the educational establishment has been rated as 'good' ' by Ofsted, who previously gave it an 'outstanding'.

Manor Park was the former stadium of Nuneaton Borough A.F.C. 22,114 spectators packed into the ground for an FA Cup tie against Rotherham United in 1967. The club moved away from Manor Park at the beginning of the 2007–08 season to a new home at Liberty Way which they share with Nuneaton R.F.C. In 2008 Manor Park was demolished and housing was built on the site. Manor Park staged the first ever official home match of the England women's national team on 23 June 1973, an 8–0 victory over Scotland watched by a crowd of 1,310.
