Herriard

Herriard railway station was a railway station in the village of Herriard, Hampshire, UK. The station was a stop on the Basingstoke and Alton Light Railway until its closure in 1932. On Sunday, 19 August 1928, a crash scene from the film The Wrecker was filmed at Herriard. A set of SECR coaches and a Class F1 locomotive no. A148 were released on an incline to collide into a Foden steam lorry. As in 2020 the platforms survive as part of a garden wall either side of a roadway.

Southrope is a hamlet in the civil parish of Herriard, Hampshire. It has one pub, named the Fur and Feathers. The hamlet was once considered a part of the civil parish Bentworth, until the late 19th century. Its nearest town is Alton, which lies approximately 5.8 miles (9.3 km) south-east from the hamlet. The hamlet's toponym derives from Old English Sūþrop, meaning south village.

Winslade is a hamlet and civil parish in the Basingstoke and Deane district of Hampshire, England. It lies 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Basingstoke, just off the A339 road. The hamlet covers an area of 712 acres (288 ha) and has an average elevation of 550 feet (170 m). Its nearest railway station is Basingstoke, 4.2 miles (6.8 km) north of the hamlet. The parish of Winslade contains the vast Hackwood Park, an 89-acre (36 ha) Grade I listed Royal deer park. According to the 2011 census, Winslade, along with Tunworth, Weston Corbett and Weston Patrick, had a population of 224. The manor of Winslade was held by Hugh de Port and his descendants from 1086 until 1555, after which it was bought by William, Marquis of Winchester. Hackwood Park was acquired by William Paulet, 1st Marquess of Winchester in the 16th century, and was used as a deer hunting park until the 20th century. Winslade contains 42 Grade II listed buildings, including Hackwood House, a Grade II* listed building. Its church, dedicated to St Mary, dates from 1816 and was Grade II listed on 26 April 1957.

Lasham Airfield (ICAO: EGHL) is an aerodrome 3.6 miles (5.8 km) north-west of Alton in Hampshire, England, in the village of Lasham. Th airfield was built on farming land in 1942 as a Royal Air Force Station during the Second World War. The RAF ceased operations in 1948, but an aircraft company, General Aircraft Ltd, continued to fly from the airfield. From 1951, the main activity at Lasham airfield became recreational gliding. The airfield is now the home of the largest British gliding club, also one of the world's largest, Lasham Gliding Society Ltd (LGS), which bought the land in 1999 from the Ministry of Defence. The airfield is also the location of 2Excel Engineering Ltd., a company that maintains jet aircraft for various airlines. Pilots of powered aircraft visiting the airfield require prior permission and a briefing on its hazards: in particular dense concentrations of thermalling gliders (up to 100 gliders can be in the vicinity at once), winch cables up to 3,000 ft (910 m) above the ground, and occasional movements of large jet airliners. Over-flying aircraft are requested to not fly below 3,618 ft (1,103 m) QNH. The airfield frequency is 131.03 MHz.

Burkham is a hamlet in the large civil parish of Bentworth in Hampshire, England including a large country house, Burkham House. The nearest town is Alton, which lies about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) to the south-east. Its nearest railway station was formerly the Bentworth and Lasham railway station on the Basingstoke and Alton Light Railway, until its closure in 1932. The nearest railway station is now 3.6 miles (5.8 km) east of the village, at Alton. Between Burkham and Bentworth is Home Farm, a Woodland Trust area of 339 acres (137 hectares) of mixed woodland, plantations and fields. The area was bought by the Woodland Trust in 1991.

Weston Corbett is a hamlet and civil parish in Hampshire and lies three miles south from Basingstoke. There is only one mention of Weston Corbett in the Domesday Survey of 1086. The first reference to Weston Corbett occurs in 1224, when the land belonged to the Crown and was held by Thomas Corbett. Although the Corbett family gave their name to the parish, the land at Weston Corbett has subsequently changed hands many times.In 1316, Weston Corbett was a hamlet but, by 1801, there were only 10 inhabitants. The population has increased slightly since this date, but the settlement still comprises only a few houses and two farms. A church is known to have existed, and was first mentioned in 1305. It was, however, in ruins by the end of the 16th century. The site of the church is not known, although it is believed to have been sited north or west of Manor Farm.

Lasham is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is 3.4 miles (5.5 km) northwest of Alton and 1.2 miles (1.9 km) north of Bentworth, just off the A339 road. The parish covers an area of 1,797 acres (727 ha) and has an average elevation of 560 feet (170 m) above sea level. The nearest railway station is Alton, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southeast of the village. Lasham formerly had its own railway station, Bentworth and Lasham, on the Basingstoke and Alton Light Railway until the line's closure in 1936. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 176.

Hackwood Park is a large country estate that primarily consists of an early 18th-century ornamental woodland and formal lawn garden and a large detached house. It is within the boundaries of Winslade, an overwhelmingly rural parish immediately south of Basingstoke in Hampshire. In its 260-acre (110 ha) grounds contain 23 separately listed structures including a teahouse pavilion, an ornamental bridge, statue of George I of Great Britain, three dispersed stone tōrōs, five urns and two fountains, a coach house and stables. Sheep and deer are tended to on grounds behind a variously arc-shaped and straight ha-ha wall. The park and gardens are Grade I listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and the main house is Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England.

Ellisfield is a village in the Basingstoke and Deane district of Hampshire, England. It lies approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Basingstoke on the other side of the M3 motorway from the town. As a parish it is grouped together with Cliddesden, Dummer and Farleigh Wallop.

Weston Patrick is a small village and civil parish in Hampshire. It lies four miles (6 km) southeast from Basingstoke and covers an area of 1,183 acres (4.79 km2). Weston Patrick is divided from the neighbouring parish of Weston Corbett by the road leading to the village of Upton Grey. The former BBC Gardener's World presenter Monty Don grew up in the village.
