Maren, Netherlands

The siege of San Andreas also known as the siege of Sint-Andries was a military event that took place during the Eighty Years' War and the Anglo–Spanish War from 28 January to 6 March 1600. The Spanish garrison of San Andreas was besieged by an Anglo-Dutch force led by Maurice of Nassau. A Spanish relief force under the command of Luis de Velasco failed to relieve the fort after having been turned back by the besiegers. The fort surrendered after the garrison mutinied and accepted payment from Maurice.

Heerewaarden is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Maasdriel, and lies about 8 km south of Tiel. Heerewaarden was a separate municipality until 1999, except for a short period between 1818 and 1821, when it was part of Rossum.

Kessel is a village in the southern Netherlands. It is located in Oss, North Brabant about 12 km northeast of 's-Hertogenbosch on the river Maas. The village was first mentioned in 997 as Casella. It is derived from castle, but means little house.Kessel was a separate municipality until 1821, when it became a part of Alem, Maren en Kessel. Kessel was home to 298 people in 1840. In 1944, the village of Kessel and neighbouring Maren were evacuated, and the church was destroyed during the fighting. After the war, a new village Maren-Kessel was built between the two villages. In 2011, it was merged into municipality of Oss.

Het Wild is a village in the southern Netherlands, located in the municipality of Oss, North Brabant on the left bank of the river Meuse. Het Wild is a settlement without a church and the smallest inhabited place in the former municipality of Lith.

Alem is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Maasdriel, and lies about 10 km north of 's-Hertogenbosch. It used to part of the province in North Brabant. In 1934, it became part of Gelderland. Until 1958, Alem, Maren en Kessel was a separate municipality. The villages of Maren and Maren-Kessel are now part of the municipality of Lith.

Heesselt is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Betuwe, and lies about 10 km southwest of Tiel. It was first mentioned in 850 as Hesola, and probably means "forest with shrubbery". In 1840, it was home 258 people. The Dutch Reformed Church dates from 1887, but has a 15th century tower.

Rossum is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Maasdriel, and lies about 11 km southwest of Tiel. Rossum was a separate municipality between 1818 and 1999, when it was merged with Maasdriel.

Kerkdriel is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Maasdriel, and lies about 8 km north of 's-Hertogenbosch. The town of Kerkdriel had 6,765 inhabitants, on 1 January 2019. The approximate built-up area of the town is 1.5 km², and contains 2,835 residences. The statistical area "Kerkdriel", which includes peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 10,210.Due to its positioning between two rivers (Meuse and Waal), a strong local linguistic accent developed during the post second-world-war period. Those who speak the "Driels" accent may be identified via the test phrase "Kees de Beer" (proper: Keas d'n Bear).

Maasdriel (Dutch pronunciation: [maːzˈdril] ) is a municipality in the province of Gelderland, in the eastern Netherlands. Maasdriel was formed on 1 January, 1999 by the merger of the former municipalities of Ammerzoden (including Well, Wellseind en Wordragen), Hedel, Heerewaarden, Maasdriel (Alem, Hoenzadriel, Kerkdriel and Velddriel) and Rossum (including Hurwenen). The former municipality of Maasdriel was called "Driel" before 1944.
