Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFU) is a private graduate school in North Chicago, Illinois. It has more than 2,000 students in five schools: Chicago Medical School, College of Health Professions, College of Pharmacy, Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, and School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The university is named for famous DNA crystallographer Rosalind Franklin. Photo 51, an X-ray diffraction pattern of the B form of DNA, captured by Franklin in 1952, was pivotal in 20th-century history of biology. The image is depicted in the university's seal and logo. RFU offers more than 29 study programs in graduate health-related subjects, including PhD programs for medical and basic research. Its facilities include a new innovation and research building (opening fall 2019) designed to promote collaboration among academic and industry scientists and Helix 51, the first bioscience incubator in Lake County, Illinois.

The Chicago Medical School (CMS) is a medical school located in North Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is one of the graduate schools of Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS). It was founded in 1912 and obtained approval from the American Medical Association in 1948.

The Robert Hosmer Morse House is a historic house at 1301 Knollwood Circle in Lake Forest, Illinois. Built in 1932, the house served as a summer home for businessman Robert Hosmer Morse and his family. The architectural firm of Zimmerman, Saxe & Zimmerman designed the house, which combined elements of the Moderne and Art Deco styles. As the wealthy residents of Lake Forest typically used traditional designs for their homes, the modern architectural styles were an unusual choice. The house's design features a stucco exterior, a horizontal emphasis throughout, casement windows, decorative limestone around the front entrance, and a recessed third floor.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 10, 2000.

The Dewey House, also referred to as Building 29, North Chicago VA Medical Center, is a historic building at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois. Designed by David Adler, the Georgian Revival mansion was commissioned by future United States Representative Charles S. Dewey.

Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC), opened on October 1, 2010, and is the United States' first federal health care center that partners the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense into a single, fully integrated federal health care facility.

Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes (RTC Great Lakes), is a unit within the United States Navy primarily responsible for conducting the initial orientation and indoctrination of incoming recruits, also known as boot camp and recruit training, or RTC. It is part of Naval Service Training Command. It is a tenant command of Naval Station Great Lakes in the city of North Chicago, Illinois, in Lake County, north of Chicago. Called "The Quarterdeck of the Navy" since it opened in July 1911, RTC Great Lakes has been the service's only enlisted basic training location since 1994, when the Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Florida, was closed under the BRAC process. The similar RTC San Diego, California, was closed the previous year. All enlistees into the U.S. Navy begin their service at RTC Great Lakes with at least eight weeks of training, and more if they do not pass certain tests. Upon completion of basic training, qualifying sailors are sent to various apprenticeship, or "A schools", located across the United States for training in their occupational speciality, or ratings. Those who have not yet received a specific rating enter the fleet with a general designation of airman, fireman, construction man or seaman.

The William McCormick Blair Estate is a historic estate at 982 Sheridan Road in Lake Bluff, Illinois. The estate was built in 1926-28 for financier William McCormick Blair, who was one of the many wealthy and prominent Chicagoans to build an estate in Lake Bluff in the early twentieth century. Architect David Adler, a well-regarded designer of country houses, designed the estate's main house in the Colonial Revival style. The house has a complex, sprawling shape unified by the consistent use of double-hung windows and wood roofing shingles. The estate also includes a garage, a tennis house, two cottages, two sheds, a folly shaped like a Greek temple, a greenhouse, and a garden.The estate was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 31, 2008.

Lake Bluff is a railroad station in the village of Lake Bluff, Illinois, on Metra's Union Pacific North Line. It is officially located at 600 North Sheridan Road, is 30.2 miles (48.6 km) away from Ogilvie Transportation Center, the inbound terminus of the Union Pacific North Line, and also serves commuters who travel north to Kenosha, Wisconsin. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Lake Bluff is in zone G. As of 2018, Lake Bluff is the 80th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 647 weekday boardings.As of April 25, 2022, Lake Bluff is served by 46 trains (23 in each direction) on weekdays, by all 26 trains (13 in each direction) on Saturdays, and by all 18 trains (nine in each direction) on Sundays and holidays. The current station was built in 1904, and previously served the Chicago and North Western Railway before it was bought out by Union Pacific Railroad in 1995. Parking is available in front of the station on North Sheridan Road from the intersection of Scranton Avenue, and on Mawman Avenue off the southeast corner of Rockland Road. It was included in the National Register of Historic Places listing for the Lake Bluff Uptown Commercial Historic District in 2006. The station was staffed until 2016.The Union Pacific Lakes Sub parallels the station's trackage and connects with the line north of the station. It follows the line to a curve north of the Waukegan station, where the line ends. Union Pacific has a railyard in Waukegan that services Metra trains as well as their own.

Rondout is an unincorporated community in Lake County, Illinois, United States that first formed around a railroad junction. The area is located within Libertyville Township. As Rondout is an unincorporated community rather than a municipality, it lacks clearly defined borders, and shares postal codes with Lake Bluff, Lake Forest and Libertyville, Illinois. It has its own elementary school which comes under Rondout School District 72. Illinois Route 176 passes east–west through Rondout, serving as the "main street" of the community, where it is also called "Rockland Road".

The Lake Bluff Uptown Commercial Historic District is the historic downtown district of Lake Bluff, Illinois, United States. There are fourteen properties in the district; of these, six buildings, one site, and one object contribute to its historic fabric as contributing properties.

The John Griffith Store Building is a historic commercial building at 103–113 E. Scranton Avenue in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Built in 1925–26 by businessman John Griffith, the building originally housed four storefronts and several second-floor apartments. Architect Stanley Anderson of the firm Anderson, Ticknor & Fox, who designed several of neighboring Lake Forest's major institutional buildings and many of its homes, designed the store in the Colonial Revival style. The store's size and brick construction allowed it to stand out from Lake Bluff's other commercial buildings, most of which were smaller wooden structures; the use of the then-popular Colonial Revival style further distinguished it from its older and more modest neighbors. The building's design includes wooden decorations and trim around the first-floor doors and windows, two oriel windows on the second floor, stone lintels atop the second floor's remaining windows, a stone cornice, and a brick parapet.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 5, 2003.
