On February 5, 2001, a mass shooting occurred at a Navistar engine plant in Melrose Park, Illinois, when former employee William Daniel Baker entered the facility and fatally shot four employees and wounded four others with an SKS rifle before committing suicide. At the time, Baker was involved in a criminal case involving a conspiracy to steal machinery from Navistar. He had been convicted of crimes related to the plot months before the shooting and was due to turn himself into custody on February 6.

As of 2018, Berkeley is the 173rd busiest of the 236 non-downtown stations in the Metra system, with an average of 145 weekday boardings.The station is at Park Avenue and Arthur Avenue. To the south there is a parking lot, a residential neighborhood of single-family homes, several distribution centers and warehouses. A large industrial estate that houses the Proviso Yard of Union Pacific Railroad sits to the north. Immediately to the west there are two highway overpasses that carry Interstate 294 and Interstate 290, respectively, over the freight yard. Berkeley Village Hall is on Electric Avenue, about a mile to the south.

The church was dedicated on July 5, 2008, by Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithaythil. The grotto on the cathedral grounds was dedicated by Major Archbishop George Alencherry in October 2011.

Incorporated in 1924, the population at the 2020 census was 5,338.The town has a commuter railroad station on Metra's Union Pacific/West Line with service to downtown Chicago. Berkeley is situated fourteen miles west of the Chicago Loop in Cook County. Berkeley is on the western edge of Cook County. Berkeley has instant access to the metropolitan area, with Interstates 290 and 294 comprising its western and part of its southern boundaries, and the Union Pacific Railroad (originally the Chicago & North Western) and the large Proviso classification yard to the north. However, the transit arteries that link Berkeley to separate locations also function to isolate the village from its close neighbours, providing it a small-town atmosphere.

As of 2022, Bellwood is served by 15 inbound trains and 16 outbound trains on weekdays, by all 10 trains in each direction on Saturdays, and by all nine trains in each direction on Sundays and holidays. As of 2018, Bellwood is the 173rd busiest of the 236 non-downtown stations in the Metra system, with an average of 145 weekday boardings. The Union Pacific Railroad announced its intention to restore and modernize Bellwood's Metra station, and also add a third rail line, in November 2011. The $4 million renovation was finished by the fall of 2012 free of charge cost to households. The station is at Frederick Avenue and Erie Street. To the south there is a parking lot and a residential neighborhood of single-family homes. The Union Pacific Railroad’s Proviso Yard is north of the station. Immediately to the west there is an overpass that carries Mannheim Road over the freight yard. Pace suburban buses stop on Mannheim Road and on St. Charles Road, one block to the south of the station. To the east of the station is the Indiana Harbor Belt railroad bridge over the UP-W line that Union Pacific trains cross over to go into Proviso Yard.

Mount Emblem Cemetery is located at the intersection of Grand Avenue and County Line Road in Elmhurst, Illinois. Mount Emblem is perhaps best known as the home of the Fischer Windmill, popularly known as "The Old Dutch Mill", a typical Dutch windmill that towers above the trees and can be clearly seen from southbound I-294. Construction started on the mill in 1865, and the land became a cemetery in 1925, with the windmill becoming a museum. The latest renovations to the windmill were made in 2015. The tower is 51 feet (16 m) high. Sails were originally mounted on a latticework that spanned 74 feet (23 m), but now spans only 50 feet (15 m).

The Robbins Park Historic District is a set of three hundred and sixty-eight buildings in Hinsdale, Illinois. Two hundred and thirty-two of these builds contribute to its historical value. The district was platted by William Robbins in the 1860s and 1870s following the completion of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Wealthy entrepreneurs moved to the district beginning in the 1890s due to its natural beauty and proximity to major golf resorts. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 and features two houses previously honored by the register.

The station is 14.0 miles (22.5 km) away from Union Station, the eastern terminus of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Mannheim is in zone C. As of 2018, Mannheim is the 218th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 35 weekday boardings. The reason this station is named because of Mannheim Road running right next to it. It is the only non-ADA-accessible station on the Milwaukee District West Line. The Tri-State Tollway also runs adjacent to the Mannheim station. As of 2022, Mannheim is served by eight inbound trains and three outbound trains on weekdays. There is no service on weekends or holidays. All trains scheduled to stop here treat the station as a flag stop. Mannheim Station is little more than a wooden shelter, which is smaller than Hanson Park further east. The station lies on the south side of Front Street between Lincoln and Ernst Streets. Parking is available on the north side of Front Street along the same block. It is just east of the large Canadian Pacific Bensenville Yard, which sits to the south of O'Hare International Airport. This station originally served as a milk stop for the village of Mannheim, Illinois. Mannheim was founded in the 1870s when the railroad was built through the area and was later annexed into Franklin Park.

Franklin Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 18,467 at the 2020 census, up from 18,333 at the 2010 census. It was named for real estate broker Lesser Franklin who bought acres of the area when it was a majority of farming fields.

Melrose Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is a suburb of Chicago. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 24,796. Melrose Park had long been home to a large Italian-American population. The suburb was the home of Kiddieland Amusement Park from 1929 until 2010 (it closed in September 2009 before it was demolished in 2010 and the sign of Kiddieland was relocated to the Melrose Park Public Library, a Costco warehouse store now stands in its place), the Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Stern Pinball, Inc., the Melrose Park Taste home of the famous Melrose Stuffed Peppers, and the now-defunct Maywood Park horse racing track. There is a Metra railroad station in Melrose Park with daily service to Chicago. Melrose Park is home to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital.
