The Musée aéronautique et spatial Safran (English: Aeronautics and Space Museum Safran) is a French private aviation museum located in Melun, Seine-et-Marne. Established in May 1989 the museum contains a large collection of historic and modern aircraft engines. These engines have been produced by various French engine manufacturers such as Gnome et Rhône and Snecma which are now part of the present day Safran company. The latter is the creator and manager of the museum. The main exhibits are piston engines and turbojets that powered aircraft as well as rocket engines used for aircraft and spacecraft. All the exhibits were developed and produced by companies that were eventually merged into the Safran group.

Voisenon (French pronunciation: [vwaznɔ̃] ) is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department, in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. Little village, located 39 kilometres south-east from the center of Paris, Voisenon was mainly known for its 12th century abbey, and then for its renowned local figure, Claude-Henri de Fusée de Voisenon, academician and abbot. Still dedicated to cereal growing, it now enjoys the advantages of its nearest city, Melun, while keeping a country-style atmosphere. Inhabitants of Voisenon are called Voisenonais.

The canton of Melun-Nord is a French former administrative division, located in the arrondissement of Melun, in the Seine-et-Marne département (Île-de-France région). It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. It consisted of 7 communes, which joined the canton of Melun in 2015.

The National Gendarmerie Museum (French - Musée de la Gendarmerie nationale) is a museum on the history of France's National Gendarmerie. It is sited at 1-3 Rue Émile-Leclerc in the town of Melun. It first opened in 1946 but has since been repeatedly extended. Thanks to a protocol signed in 2005 between the Minister of Defence, the communauté d'agglomération Melun Val de Seine and the town of Melun, it closed between 2007 and 2015 for a complete refurbishment and redisplay · in a building near the Gendarmerie's officer-training establishment.It has over 30,000 objects, documents and photographs, including over 1,000 photographs. 2000 of these objects, documents and photographs are displayed over 1200 square metres of permanent display space. There is also a 200 square metre temporary exhibitions space, a 135 square metre reading room, a conference room and education spaces. The Museum was made a 'Musée de France' by France's haut conseil des musées on 14 January 2011.

The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte (French pronunciation: [ʃato də vo lə vikɔ̃t]) is a Baroque French château located in Maincy, near Melun, 55 kilometres (34 mi) southeast of Paris in the Seine-et-Marne department of Île-de-France. Built between 1658 and 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the Superintendent of Finances of Louis XIV, the château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th-century Europe. At Vaux-le-Vicomte, the architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André Le Nôtre and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on a large-scale project for the first time. Their collaboration marked the beginning of the Louis XIV style combining architecture, interior design and landscape design. The garden's pronounced visual axis is an example of this style.
