Lake Townsen Regional Park is a park located in northeastern Hernando County, Florida, United States. Although Hernando County Department of Parks gives the address as being in Brooksville, it is actually closer to Istachatta. The park occupies 375 acres (152 ha) and includes trails for jogging, hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. These trails connect with the Withlacoochee State Trail. The park also has fields for baseball, basketball, volleyball and horseshoes as well a picnic areas and a playground.

Nobleton Wayside Park a 2-acre (8,100 m2) park at 29061 Lamkin Drive in Nobleton, Florida that includes a boat ramp launching point on the Withlacoochee River as well as a shelter, basketball court, and picnic tables. Lamkin Drive is a loop road along the north side of County Road 476, the east end of which is at the intersection of Edgewater Avenue, which was once part of State Road 39. The park is across from the Nobleton Post Office, and between the crossing of the Withlacoochee State Trail and the Nobleton Outpost recreational area.

Pineola is an unincorporated community in Southeastern Citrus County, Florida. It is located in the southeastern part of the county, to the south of Floral City. It is along County Road 39 (South Istachatta Road) between the Hernando County-Citrus County Line north of Istachatta and County Road 48(East Bushnell Road). The Battle of Wahoo Swamp was an extended military engagement of the Second Seminole War fought in November 1836 in the Wahoo Swamp, approximately 50 miles northeast of Fort Brooke in Tampa and 35 miles south of Fort King in Ocala in modern Sumter County, Florida. General Richard K. Call, the territorial governor of Florida, led a mixed force consisting of Florida militia, Tennessee volunteers, Creek mercenaries, and some troops of the US Army and Marines against Seminole forces led by chiefs Osuchee and Yaholooche. Soon after hostilities began in late 1835, a portion of the Seminole and Black Seminole of north and central Florida removed to the Wahoo Swamp - a largely unmapped wilderness of wetlands, dense hardwood hammocks, and scattered wet prairies - as a refuge from attempts to expel them from the territory as demanded by the Indian Removal Act. Settlements were established on patches of dry land along the Withlacoochee River, and the area became a base from which small raiding parties launched attacks on US military forces and plantations between Fort Brooke and Fort King. In the autumn of 1836, General Call's forces arrived in the area to seek out and destroy Seminole villages and farms along the Withlacoochee with the goal of breaking their resistance. However, though he forced the Seminoles to retreat deeper into the swamp in a series of sharp engagements, he was unable to follow due to difficult terrain and dwindling supplies. American forces had left the Wahoo Swamp by the end of November 1836, and Call was relieved of his command by General Thomas Jessup the following month.

Floral City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,216 at the 2010 census. The community is home to the Floral City Heritage Hall Museum and hosts the Floral City Heritage Days the first weekend in December. The area has a history of phosphate mining and includes historic homes.

The Sumter Correctional Institution is a state prison for men located in Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida, owned and operated by the Florida Department of Corrections. This facility has a mix of security levels, including minimum, medium, and close, and houses both adult male and young male offenders. Sumter first opened in 1965 and has a maximum capacity of 1639 prisoners. Sumter Correctional Institution is the location of the state's only Basic Training Unit for Youthful Offenders in the Department of Corrections. After completing the 120 day program with a heavy course load of drill practice, education, physical training and a highly regimented daily schedule inmates are released to serve the remainder of their sentence on probation the day of graduation. An alleged sexual assault against a 17-year-old inmate by six other prisoners in July 2013 triggered a federal lawsuit against the institution.

Wahoo is an unincorporated community in Sumter County, Florida, United States. First settled by the Timucua, the area was eventually settled by the Seminoles. During the Second Seminole War, Wahoo and the surrounding area served as shelter to the Seminoles and as the site of several skirmishes. After the war, white settlers migrated to the area and established a thriving town. Today, the rural community is connected to the nearby town of Bushnell. Wahoo is home to a middle-aged population whose ancestry mainly hails from Europe. As for the battle site, it is protected by the state of Florida for ecological purposes.

Florida National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located near the city of Bushnell in Sumter County, Florida. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs it encompasses 512.9 acres (207.6 ha) and began interments in 1988. It is now one of the busiest cemeteries in the United States.

The Floral City Historic District is a U.S. Historic District (designated as such on December 1, 1993) located in Floral City, Florida. The district runs roughly along Orange Avenue from South Old Floral City Road to South Annie Terrace and South Aroostook Way from Orange to Tsala Apopka Lake. It contains 26 historic buildings and 2 structures.

Floral City Heritage Hall Museum is a museum in Floral City, Florida, United States. The museum is located in a Fire Station building in downtown Floral City. The fire station closed in January 2000 and the museum opened on December 4, 2009, for Floral City Heritage Days as the Heritage Museum & Country Store. It includes two galleries, a library, media center, and store. Offices, storage and a kitchen were under construction in 2014. In 2014, its website stated the museum is open Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as well as for special events. The museum is located next to the Community Building and Library on Orange Avenue, one block east of U.S. Highway 41. It is operated by the Floral City Heritage Council.

Pemberton Ferry, later renamed Croom, is a ghost town in Central Florida near Brooksville, Florida, and Ridge Manor, Florida. A rail line came to Pemberton Ferry in 1884. It was a rail stop by the Withlacoochee River just north of where the I-75 bridge over Croom-Rital Road and Withlacoochee State Trail is today. The Croom Tract is part of the Withlacoochee State Forest, and is located just north of another ghost town called Oriole. There is also a 20,000 acre Croom Wildlife Management Area. Ruins in the area include 1900 Thomas House, old foundations, a brick vat, the remains of an iron railroad bridge, family cemeteries and pits from phosphate mining. The area once included a turpentine still, sawmill, sugar mill, railroad switch out, railroad bridge and ferry. The area is now popular for turkey hunting and single track mountain biking. Another settlement in the area was known as Oriole and an abandoned Oriole cemetery remains in existence.
