East Blean Woods

Herne and Broomfield is a civil parish and electoral ward within the City of Canterbury. The parish is situated to the north of Canterbury in Kent. The seaside town of Herne Bay is the other side of the A299 road, Thanet Way that marks the northern boundary of the parish. Greenhill, part of Herne Bay, lies to the west, the parishes of Hoath and Chislet are to the east and Sturry parish is to the South. The village of Herne and the now merged hamlet of Broomfield have both expanded greatly over recent years and between them have a population of over 8,000 people. The original Micropub, The Butchers Arms, opened in Herne in 2005.

Curtis Wood is a 5.3-hectare (13-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Herne in Kent. It is owned and managed by Canterbury City Council.This wood has diverse ground flora including early purple and greater butterfly orchids. There is also a semi-improved meadow.There is access from Canterbury Road.

Herne Windmill is a Grade I listed smock mill in Herne, Kent, England, that was built in 1789.

Hoath is a semi-rural village and civil parish in the City of Canterbury local government district. The hamlets of Knaves Ash, Maypole, Ford, Old Tree, Shelvingford and Stoney Acre are included in the parish.

Wildwood Discovery Park now known as the Wildwood Trust, is a woodland discovery park in Herne, near Canterbury Kent, England. It features over fifty species of native British animals such as deer, badgers, wild boar, wolves and brown bear. It is located on the main road A291 between Herne Bay and Canterbury. Wildwood Trust is a Registered Charity in England, No 1093702, whose aim is to save British Wildlife from extinction and reintroduce recently made extinct animals such as European beaver, wild boar and modern tarpan (konik). Visitors to the park can see British animals species past and present, with the animals set in natural enclosures.

Broomfield is a village in Kent, England, divided by the Thanet Way from the seaside town of Herne Bay. It is part of the Herne and Broomfield civil parish, which according to the 2001 Census had a population of 7,325. At the 2011 census the population was included in the civil parish of Herne and Broomfield. Parts of the village were once in the Strode Park Estate.Broomfield has seen much housing development in the last two decades, particularly to the west and north of the village. Consequently, the boundary with neighbouring Herne has become blurred. Despite this, there are few shops: aside from the village's post office on Margate Road, there is a mini-supermarket, two takeaways and a hairdresser on Hawe Farm Way. There is one pub in the village, the Huntsman & Horn. Located on Margate Road, the Huntsman & Horn overlooks Broomfield Pond. There is also one church, Broomfield United Reformed Church, located on The Meadows. To the south of Broomfield lies East Blean Woods, while to the south-east is a world-championship standard BMX track, opened in 2007 by BBC presenter Kaddy Lee-Preston on a former landfill site.

The Frank Montgomery School was a mixed-gender secondary modern school in the village of Sturry near Canterbury in east Kent. It was founded in 1935 and closed in 2007, when the site and school roll was taken over by Spires Academy.

The Spires Academy is a non-selective secondary school for pupils aged 11–16 in Canterbury, Kent. There is a sixth form. The school has dual specialist status in business and enterprise, and in visual, creative and performing arts. Spires is independently governed, but funded by the sponsors and the Department for Children, Schools and Families. As a non-selective school the school does not insist on prospective pupils passing the eleven-plus examination for entry, and it is free to attend. The Academy is subject, like other schools, to regular inspections, but is managed by an ‘Academy Trust’ called E21C, rather than a local education authority. According to Ofsted inspectors, boys do worse at maths at the school, and generally the school needs to improve (academically). The school has developed strong links with Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School in nearby Canterbury.

The A299, better known as the Thanet Way, is a major road of 22 miles (35 km) in the county of Kent, England, and runs from Brenley Corner near Faversham (where it merges into the M2) to Ramsgate via Whitstable and Herne Bay. The road provides access for freight traffic to Ramsgate Harbour, Manston Airport and Thanet Earth, as well as local access to Thanet.

Calcott is a hamlet in Sturry parish, in the Canterbury District of the English county of Kent. It lies on the A291 road, about 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) north of Sturry and 3 miles (5 km) south of Herne Bay.
