Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is an academic medical center and health system located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and part of Charlotte-based Atrium Health. It is the largest employer in Forsyth County, with more than 19,220 employees and a total of 198 buildings on 428 acres. In addition to the main, tertiary-care hospital in Winston-Salem known as Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health system operates five community hospitals in the surrounding region. The entity includes: Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, its clinical enterprise Wake Forest School of Medicine, its research and education arm Wake Forest Innovations, an operating division involved with partnerships, education, licensing and start-ups.The medical center was ranked for 2015-16 by U.S. News & World Report as among the nation's best hospitals in seven areas: Cancer, Ear, Nose & Throat, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Pulmonology, and Urology. It is ranked as high-performing in five additional adult specialties: Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Gynecology, and Orthopedics. Brenner Children's Hospital, a 144-bed "hospital within a hospital" at the medical center, is nationally ranked in Orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report. Wake Forest provides a variety of medical services. It affiliates with multiple local medical centers for children and adults.

Wake Forest University School of Medicine is the medical school of Wake Forest University, with two campuses located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It is affiliated with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, the academic medical center whose clinical arm is Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. In 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranked Wake Forest School of Medicine 48th best for research in the nation and 80th best for primary care. The School of Medicine also ranks in the top third of U.S. medical schools in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The Coy C. Carpenter Library and Dorothy Carpenter Medical Archives, located at Wake Forest School of Medicine, is a library named after the first dean of the university's medical school, Coy Cornelius Carpenter, M.D., and his wife, Dorothy (Mitten) Carpenter.Coy C. Carpenter was dean of the School of Medicine of Wake Forest University from 1936 to 1967 and Vice President for Health Affairs from 1963 to 1967. He guided the school through the transition from a two-year to a four-year program and the move from Wake Forest to Winston-Salem in 1941. He authored The Story of Medicine at Wake Forest University (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 1970).

The Ardmore Historic District is a 600-acre (240 ha) national historic district located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 2,093 contributing buildings and two contributing sites. The district consists of at least ten platted residential developments from 1910 through 1924 as well as three large apartment complexes from 1947 through 1951, one of which was controversially demolished in 2021. It includes works designed by Hall Crews and by Northup & O'Brien. It includes Queen Anne and Bungalow/craftsman architecture.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Thurmond and Lucy Chatham House is a historic home located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. It was built in 1925, and is a Classical Revival style stuccoed dwelling consisting of a 2+1⁄2-story main block flanked by two-bay-wide projecting hip-roofed sections. It has a tall hip roof and bluestone terrace that fills the rear courtyard of the H-shaped plan. The house encompasses 9,065-square-feet of living space. Also on the property is a contributing 1+1⁄2-story garage / apartment. It was built for Congressman and businessman Richard Thurmond Chatham (1896–1957), who also served as president of the Chatham Manufacturing Company and his wife, Lucy Hodgin Hanes.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Robert M. Hanes House is a historic home located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. It was built in 1927, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, five-bay, Georgian Revival style brick dwelling. It has a side-gable roof with dormers, recessed entrance, and a one-story porch with Tuscan order columns. It is set in a landscape designed by Ellen Biddle Shipman in 1937. Also on the property is a contributing garage (1926–1927), playhouse (c. 1936), and garden house. It was built for Ralph Hanes and his wife, Dewitt Chatham Hanes.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The R. J. Reynolds Memorial Auditorium, located in Winston-Salem, NC, was built 1919–1924 under the direction of architect Charles Barton Keen (designer of the R. J. Reynolds estate, Reynolda House). Keen also designed the adjacent Richard J. Reynolds High School. Both buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Auditorium and adjacent school sit on a tract of land formerly known as "Silver Hill." The 28-acre (110,000 m2) tract of land now encompasses the Auditorium, the school, Hanes Park (named after the founder of Hanes Clothing Company and then-mayor James G. Hanes), the Calvin H. Wiley Middle School and the Winston-Salem Central YMCA. The Auditorium is now operated jointly by the Administration of the Richard J. Reynolds High School and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. An auditorium manager is hired to take care of the day-to-day operations of the building and scheduling of performances and events. The Auditorium is one of the oldest and largest performing arts centers in the City of Winston-Salem. The building can comfortably seat 1898 people, with 857 seats on the main Orchestra level and 1,041 seats located on the Mezzanine/Balcony area.

West End Historic District is a national historic district located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 508 contributing buildings and 7 contributing structures, in a predominantly residential section of Winston-Salem. It was a planned picturesque streetcar suburb developed at the turn of the 20th century. The buildings date from about 1887 to 1930, and include notable examples of Classical Revival, Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed H. D. Poindexter Houses and Zevely House. Other notable buildings include the St. Paul's Episcopal Church (1928-1929) designed by Ralph Adams Cram, Augsburg Lutheran Church (1926), Friends Meeting House (1927), the First Church of Christ, Scientist (1924), and Joyner's West End Grocery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Richard J. Reynolds High School now the Richard J. Reynolds Magnet School for the Visual and Performing Arts (often simply R. J. Reynolds High School or Reynolds) is a high school in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Named for R. J. Reynolds, the founder of the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the school opened in 1923. The school colors are Old Gold and Black, and the school's mascot is a demon.

Truist Stadium is a ballpark in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States, that replaced Ernie Shore Field. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Winston-Salem Dash minor league baseball team and primary home field of the Carolina Disco Turkeys summer collegiate baseball team. The ballpark is bounded by Peters Creek Parkway (northwest/west); 1st Street (north); and Green Street (northeast, left-center field). Salem Parkway, which carries US 158 and US 421, is toward the south/southeast.

Thruway Center is the oldest shopping center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and the second shopping center in North Carolina. Winston-Salem's first shopping center was described as "comparable to Raleigh's Cameron Village". Merchants Development Co., started by Ray Messick, Earl Slick and W.B. Leverton, announced plans for a 14-acre site which was once a farm on Stratford Road in June 1953. The development was named Thruway because it was near a planned east-west superhighway expected to be named the Thruway. The $1.5 million center would include a 16,400-square-foot Food Fair grocery store, part of a chain owned by Messick. It was also have a 14,000-square-foot F.W. Woolworth, a 9000-square-foot Eckerd Drug, a laundromat, a bakery, a toy store, a children's store, a barber, a beauty salon, a gift shop, a shoe store, a ladies' wear store, and a bank. A 2-story building next door was called the Smoke House. It housed WTOB radio, which had to move its landmark tower for the development. Mayor Marshall Kurfees cut the ribbon October 13, 1955. While the expressway was not called the Thruway, the center's name remained. A $2.5 million addition in 1966 on Knollwood Street increased the size to 304,778 square feet on a site totalling 30 acres. Included was a 20,000-square-foot Thalhimers, a Roses and a 15,750-square-foot Winn-Dixie. B.F. Saul Real Estate Investment Trust of Chevy Chase, Maryland purchased the center in 1972 and spent $1 million on improvements in 1975. Thalhimers closed in January 1992. Stein Mart announced plans on March 16 to take over the space. Also in 1992, Harris Teeter opened its third location in the city, and its largest. Roses announced in November 1993 that it would close 40 stores including the Thruway location, which at 22,000 square feet was its smallest of six locations in Forsyth County. Two other Winston-Salem stores would remain open. Borders announced plans to move into the former Woolworth's space in 1998. The bookstore chain's 25,000-square-foot fifth store in North Carolina opened in May 1999. The store closed in 2011 after the chain announced it would liquidate. Trader Joe's opened a 13,000-square-foot location, its first in Winston-Salem, in October 2012 in the former Borders space. As of 2019, Dewey's Bakery was the last remaining original tenant. That same year, a time capsule was opened which had been buried at the time of the opening of Thruway Theatre February 14, 1969. A new one was buried, to be opened in 2069. Stein Mart closed numerous stores including the Thruway location in 2020. O2 Fitness Clubs moved into the Stein Mart space in September 2023. Sephora announced in May 2022 that it would be Thruway's second anchor tenant, with 7000 square feet next to Trader Joe's.
