Leipsydrium, or Leipsydrion (Ancient Greek: Λειψύδριον), was a fortress of ancient Attica, in which the Alcmaeonidae fortified themselves after the death of Hipparchus, but was taken by the Peisistratidae after defeating the opposite party. Herodotus describes it as situated above Paeonia, and other authorities place it above Mount Parnes.The site of Leipsydrium is tentatively located near modern Gaitana,marathon.

Paeonidae or Paionidai (Ancient Greek: Παιονίδαι), was a deme of ancient Attica, associated with the tribe (phyle) Leontis. It was apparently the same as the Paeonia or Paionia (Παιονίη), which Herodotus located as being below the Attic fortress of Leipsydrium. The site of Paeonidae is located north of modern Acharnes (formerly Menidi) at the foot of Mount Parnes.According to the second-century geographer Pausanias, the Paeonidae were supposed to have been named after Paeon, the son of Antilochus, who was the son of Nestor, and one of the suitors of Helen, who fought in the Trojan War.

The Bafi Refuge (also spelt Mpafi) belongs to the Greek Mountaineering Club, E.O.S. Athens founded in 1928 in the Mount Parnitha National Park, at an altitude of 1160m, roughly 2.5 km from Mont Parness, inside the national park. Ιn April 1937 the refuge's foundation stone was laid. The first part was completed in Autumn of 1939 with money that was collected mainly by the members of the Mountaineering Club, but also other affiliated associations. Paths begin from the shelter leaving in all directions, which can offer small and easy walks of half and one hour or long and difficult walks for the fitter. Access to the refuge is from the street that goes up Parnitha to the casino “Mont Parness”, or from a marked path which begins from the car park of the cable car and via the ravine of Choynis, leading to the shelter. Also, Bathis Square buses of line 714 of OASA leave for the Casino of Parnitha. Today, the refuge is open all year round, it has organised cooking and it offers homemade food, refreshments and drinks. It provides the possibility of overnight stay, with three dormitories of 10, 20 and 30 places, three rooms with four beds, and one room in the loft of the shelter with two beds. During the winter there is central heating.

Thrakomakedones (Greek: Θρακομακεδόνες from Thrace and Macedonia), is a town in the regional unit East Attica, in Attica region, Greece. It is a northern suburb of Athens. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Acharnes, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 3.550 km2.

Mount Parnitha (Greek: Πάρνηθα, pronounced [ˈparniθa], Katharevousa and Ancient Greek: Πάρνης Parnis/Parnes; sometimes Parnetha) is a densely forested mountain range north of Athens, the highest on the peninsula of Attica, with an elevation of 1,413 m, and a summit known as Karavola (Καραβόλα). Much of the mountain is designated a national park, and is a protected habitat for wildfowl, first created in 1961. The summit is located 18 km north of Acharnes and about 30 km north of Athens city center, while the mountain covers approximately 250 km² of land. Other peaks include Mavrovouni (Μαυροβούνι), Ornio (1,350 m), Area (1,160 m), Avgo or Avgho (1,150 m), and Xerovouni (Ξεροβούνι, meaning "dry mountain": 1,120 m). It also has two shelters Mpafi and Flampouri. The name of the mountain dates back to ancient times, when it was under the ancient demes of Acharnae and Decelea.

Varympompi or Varibobi (Greek: Βαρυμπόμπη) is a suburb of Athens in the municipality of Acharnes, East Attica, Greece.

Decelea (Ancient Greek: Δεκέλεια, Greek pronunciation: [ðe.ˈce.ʎa]), Dekéleia), was a deme and ancient village in northern Attica serving as a trade route connecting Euboea with Athens, Greece. It was situated near the entrance of the eastern pass across Mount Parnes, which leads from the northeastern part of the Athenian plain to Oropus, and from thence both to Tanagra on the one hand, and to Delium and Chalcis on the other. It was situated about 120 stadia from Athens, and the same distance from the frontiers of Boeotia. It was visible from Athens and from its heights the ships entering the harbour of Piraeus were visible as well.

The Hellenic Air Force Museum was founded in 1986 and since 1992 has been located on Dekelia Air Base in Acharnes north of Athens. In opposition to the War Museum of Athens it displays air force history and is active in restoring and presenting old aircraft. Most aircraft in the collection come from the Hellenic Air Force; some were exchanged with other European aircraft museums. The HAF Underwater Operations Team (KOSYTHE) helped recover some rare aircraft from underwater for the museum: a Bristol Blenheim, a Junkers Ju 52/3m and a Junkers Ju 87.

Tatoi Airport (ICAO: LGTT) is an airport located north of Athens, in Decelea. It started operating in 1918 and it now has a single runway with a length of 1764m (not counting the 347m threshold). The airport is used by the Hellenic Air Force and is the base of the following aeroclubs: Athens Gliding Club Dekeleia Aeroclub Athens Aeroclub Mesogeion Aeroclub It has also been used by many other aeroclubs of Attica. Moreover, the Hellenic Air Force Museum is situated at the airport which contains many old aircraft.

Dekeleia railway station (Greek: Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Δεκελείας, Sidirodromikos Stathmos Dekeleias) is a station on the Piraeus–Platy railway line in the northern part of the Athens metropolitan area, in the municipality of Acharnes, East Attica, Greece. It was inaugurated on 8 March 1904 and reopened on 6 May 2005. It is owned by OSE, but service are provided by Hellenic Train, through the Athens Suburban Railway from Athens to Chalcis. It is located close Tatoi Airport, however it does not serve the airport.
