Bookham Knoll is a rounded hill, 211 metres (692 ft) high, about 1 kilometre southeast of the village of Buckland Newton in the county of Dorset in southern England. Its prominence of 43 metres (141 ft) qualifies it as one of the Tumps. It is located within the Dorset Downs. The hill is largely treeless farmland. It is bounded to the west by B3143, and on the other three sides by a minor road passing through the hamlets of Rew, Sharnhill Green and Bookham, after which it is named. To the east, beyond the lane, a tributary of the River Lydden rises below the col separating the knoll from Church Hill, the western spur of Ball Hill. The Wessex Ridgeway runs from east to west along the ridge formed by Ball and Church Hills and about a kilometre south of Bookham Knoll.

Piddletrenthide ( ) is a village and civil parish in the English county of Dorset. It is sited by the small River Piddle in a valley on the dip slope of the Dorset Downs, 8 miles (13 km) north of Dorchester. In the 2011 census the parish—which includes the small village of Plush to the northeast—had 323 dwellings, 290 households and a population of 647.

The Piddletrenthide Hoard is a Roman coin hoard dating from the 3rd century AD, found near Piddletrenthide, Dorset. It consisted of 2,114 base silver radiates found in a pottery vessel. The coins date to between 253 and 296 AD.The hoard was found by metal detectorist Brian Read in 2016. It was lifted up with the block of soil in which it was buried and taken to the British Museum for study.

Plush is a small village in the English county of Dorset. It lies within the civil parish of Piddletrenthide in the west of the county, and is approximately 8 miles (13 km) north of the county town Dorchester. It is sited in a small side-valley of the River Piddle at an altitude of 130 metres (430 ft) and is surrounded by chalk hills which rise to 251 metres (823 ft) at Ball Hill, a kilometre to the northeast, and 261 metres (856 ft) at Lyscombe Hill, 2½ kilometres to the east. Plush consists of a few thatched cottages, a public house, a Regency manor house and a small church dedicated to St John the Baptist; the church was designed in 1848 by Benjamin Ferrey, a Gothic Revival architect and close friend of Pugin.

Buckland Newton is a village and civil parish in Dorset, England. It is situated beneath the scarp slope of the Dorset Downs on the southern periphery of the Blackmore Vale, 7+1⁄2 miles (12.1 km) south of Sherborne. Approximately three quarters of the parish lies within the Dorset National Landscape area. The parish covers an area of around 4,200 acres (17 km2) and includes the hamlets of Bookham, Duntish, Henley and Sharnhill Green. In the 2021 census it had a population of 671 living in 289 households. Amenities in the village include a pub (The Gaggle of Geese), shop, primary school and village hall.
